lol, I know! I love his facial expression in the last one... What does "The True Gen" mean? "The true gen" is believed to have been first used by members of the Royal Air Force during World War II. Before going on operations, air crews were given general information-abbreviated to "gen"-about the weather and expected enemy opposition. Others say that gen is merely short for genuine. Whatever the case, "the true gen" is used to distinguish accurate information from rumor and speculation. Ernest Hemingway picked up the expression and used it frequently... More than anyone, Gary Cooper exemplified "the true gen http://www.cooperandhemingway.com/index.htm "Watch out Gable, we're re-discovering Gary!" http://themave.com/Cooper/ccorner/newrave1.htm

Mrs Cooper, I see that your Gary Cooper forum is a small part of a larger forum dedicated to discussing Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis. I use to be a very big fan of them and Abott and Costello when I was a kid and think I will start looking to see what all movies are released on dvd. I have no idea on how many movies each comedy team made but I know they both made a bunch. I was going to buy the Abbott and Costello box sets as they are so cheap but all those complaints about the DVD's not working right steered me away. Perhaps I will buy them anyway as I never have the problems with dvd's not playing right that some people have. I would say that Abbott and Costello are my favorite but Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis are probably my second favorite. I am very big on comedy with perhaps my favorites all coming from the 60's sitcoms like Green Acres, Beverly Hillbillies, Hogan's Heroes, Gomer Pyle, Andy Griffith ect. with only about two comedy shows that I can stand in modern times being News Radio and Seinfeld as I am very much into wacky/screwball/slapstick comedies. Oh I also left off two other classic comedy teams in Laurel and Hardy and The Three Stooges, which I was also crazy about growing up. Lots of great stuff still to collect that is not Cooper releated. Awww, I'm glad you like it, Dan! It'll seriously be a huge break from the pallies I have on there now. Not that I don't love them to pieces, but none of them like Gary. And it's SO difficult to talk about him, because they just shut me up. My major collections are Gary Cooper/Dean Martin/The Colgate Comedy Hour/ and Jerry Lewis. Here are the lyrics I found to a song Rush wrote in '77 about Mr. Deeds. It's pretty cool. Cinderella Man A modest man from Mandrake Travelled rich to the city He had a need to discover A use for his newly found wealth Because he was human Because he had goodness Because he was moral They called him insane Delusions of grandeur Visions of splendor A manic depressive He walks in the rain Eyes wide open Heart undefended Innocence untarnished... Cinderella Man Doing what you can They can't understand What it means Cinderella Man Hang on to your plans Try as they might They cannot steal your dreams In the betrayal of his love he awakened To face a world of cold reality And a look in the eyes of the hungry Awakened him to what he could do He held up his riches To challenge the hungry Purposeful motion For one so insane They tried to fight him Just couldn't beat him This manic depressive Who walks in the rain Angie, where do you find all these songs?! They're amazing! Is this one on the CD as well? null

Another case in point: I really have never liked the tales of Alice in Wonderland, but was just enchanted by Gary's "Awkward Knight". I know! I watched the entire movie through last night and LOL! It's such an incredibly strange movie, but Gary was just so adorable as the Awkward Knight I just had to upload it! I watch it all the time. My mom walks into the room and she goes, "Ooh, you're watching THAT again" And I'll be like, "Yup". She'll pause for a moment and then watch it with me. Everytime!

Woohoo! I'm getting this one from the library, though isn't it, like, $20 on Amazon?
-
Oh, I have "The Films of Gary Cooper" I've had it for a few months and I just LOVE it!

"yes, I'm trying to center my picture so the text doesn't wrap around it and stretch the thread out. It looks like someone managed to "edit" my post to fix that problem but I didn't know how to do it myself. I do have Lilac Time----courtesy of Coopsgirl!! Unfortunately, I'm the only prehistoric monster here without ability to burn dvds, nor do I yet have a dvd recorder of any kind. That will all be rectified as soon as I can, I promise!" Awww, that's all right, I guess I can wait, lol. Angie, Dan tells me you have both "Man from Wyomning" and "Devil and the Deep" I'm not sure if you've already gotten everything you needed, but if you'd like to trade for these as well, I'd be glad to!

Anyone have "Man from Wyoming" or "Devil and the Deep"? null

Wow! Lucky you, PK! I wish I were nearly complete with my collection, though sadly I am not. Hopefully, I'll be able to find more videos on Amazon or Ebay. I did, however, find "The Eagle" which I had mentioned before. I know that isn't on your list, I just thought it was neat, because I think (I'm not sure) that Gary is in a mask with Valentino, ooooo! Gary in 1925, wearing a mask (I'm not so excited about the mask as I am that it's just cool to see him in 1925!) Don't hide that beautiful face! Oh well, I wish you the best of luck with your search!

What exactly are you trying to do? Center it? You guys are doing great! I love the photos, keep 'em comin' P.S. Miss G, do you have "Lilac Time"? I'll be willing to trade with ya'

Sounds good to me! I'll get copying ASAP. I hope you don't mind, but I don't have a printed cover for the DVDs. I'm not that good, lol, but I'll make sure it's in perfect condition
-
I hope I have the bio you're looking for, Angie. I'm not quite sure if there are two versions... And Variety Girl I will try and copy, though if I'm not able to, I can show you how to download the clip, and all that, because it's from YouTube. It's only about 10 minutes long so it's hardly worth an entire movie--I don't wanna jip ya'. But if I have 4 movies you need, and you only have three to trade, I'll throw in an extra just because you guys are so great. I really think this is a blast--that is if we don't get everything screwed up! lol, Because with the way it's going messes are likely. P.S. Thanks for all the eyecandy, Angie!

Wow, I seriously can't keep up with all of this, lol. Between all of us, there's bound to be a little error. But I think I'll write down a list. I'll check mine, give the final: "PK, this is what you have, this is what I need." and "Miss G, this is what I have, this is what you need." Because right now it's getting so jumbled up. Maybe we should all send each other PMs, lol. Giving a full list of what everyone has and needs and that way we can refer back to that in times of confusion. null

Hi Mrs. C---Thanks for that info; and I have one more question---what is a "Proboard"? This is a proboard: http://levitchcrocetti.proboards105.com/index.cgi It's just a forum to share and chat about your favorite interests. So when you upload images through imageshack, it looks like this: And from photobucket: So the imageshack shrinks it down so the page can load faster. It may not look so bad, but when you're going on an all out Coop rampage and you're posting HUGE photos, imageshack is a nice tool to have. Though imageshack doesn't just upload thumbnails, it also supports everything photobucket has, but I've also just found out that photobucket uses the same tool (thumbnails) but it takes a little time to discover, because it's tucked away into a back corner. Imageshack is kind of a neusance because you can only upload one photo at a time, whereas with photobucket you can upload 20 at a time. lol, I know I'm confusing you guys, but I still haven't figured out which is best, but for proboard purposes, go with imageshack, for everything else...use photobucket.

Ladies, I don't think I can join you in MSN because the computers at my office block IMs and I don't always get back on here in the evenings. However, I hope you will not abandon this thread and I will be with you in spirit. That's all right Miss, we understand! This'll work just fine! I just have to make sure to check this thread every other hour! lol, I got off the computer last night about 1, then got on here this morning at 11 and gosh! I missed over 30 posts! But if I miss anything really important (trading information), just email me, lol, because I tend to get lost very easily. Like a lost child in a toy store...

I love the drawing! That's so cool that your friend did that for you! Mrs. Cooper---ha ha!! We may have to become Mormons so he can have multiple wives. lol, No kidding! At least there's a smaller amount of us here. I guess I'm both happy and sad about the fact that not very many know Gary. I mean, in one way...no one understands what kind of class a man SHOULD be. And on the other hand...I get really possessive and snap at anyone who goes, "Oh...yeah, he's a looker! Meeeeow!" I don't mind it if they're a REAL fan. But when they say that and then go, "Oh, yeah, but Brad Pitt's so much hotter". THAT makes me wanna pick up my ax and do a little weeding. Anyways, thanks for the comment on the drawing! My friend Selenia did that because I kept begging. She finally gave in and gave me the, "you should seriously consider meds" look. But oh well, at least I have it now!

I have never been so confused in my life, but you know what? It's worth it. We'll get through it pallies! In response to MissGoddess's responses: "I have a feeling that is going to be a problem for me too one day! It's so addictive (I need another "vice", like I need a hole in the head! lol!) I saw "Imageshack" for the first time while looking at your DOOMSDAY pix---is it more complicated than photobucket? And one question about photobucket---besides creating separate "albums", is there no other way to organize our pix? Thanks, Coopsgal." Actually, imageshack is easier to work than photobucket, in the sense that you use it from a proboard, BUT, if you just want to upload images say to myspace, send to a friend, use a URL, then photobucket is the way to go, 100%. BUT also, if you have more than one account you're liable for deletion, so in another sense, imageshack is the best choice (again, that's if you upload all your images to a proboard, you'll have them available directly, without the fear of the photobucket police tailin' ya'). Sorry to confuse any of you, it's been a very confusing morning! Also, the Doomsday images I had put up on my proboard came out completely wrong. I have been using my laptop for weeks and now just last night I had jumped onto my regular computer. And boy oh boy! The pictures were a mile long! Not that I mind a mile long Gary, but it was very difficult to manage! So I changed it last night into a chart, so instead of It's now, Just send me a message of what you guys need and we can work out a trade, because I'm trying to piece all this stuff together and my mind's deflated :-/ Girl, I'll trade ya' His woman for Nevada North West Mounted Police for Only the Brave Today we Live for City Streets But *sigh* I could never trade in my Dean Martin for two Como's and a Bing. (Sorry, very random joke that runs into my head when I trade )

Awww, at least I have others, lol. Which ones do you need from me? Just that one Bio?
