A while back TCM showed a Marie Dressler film i can't remember the name of it or what year it was made i want to buy a vhs copy of it if available or tape it on my DVR when TCM shows it next. The plot goes like this: Marie Dressler plays a housekeeper & nanny in a rich family of three children who have no mother she raises them like their her own. The Father falls in love with her and she loving the children so much marries him. He dies after the children have grown up and the children fight her for the money the inheritance .......... which she gives up gladly heartbroken cause the youngst child she raised since birth has died piloting a plane to get to her during the inheritance trial to support her. She leaves the mansion the other two grown children never to see them again but in the end she takes a jog raising someone else's children and starts all over again the end. This was the first time i saw Marie Dressler in a serious role i just known her for comedy in the film "Dinner at Eight." Such a versatile actress she's just gosh darn good!....... Hoping maybe Mongo you could help me on this or coffeedan, classicsfan or any one i would appreciate it so much! I know she was a silent film actress what movies were they? are they avaiable to buy on vhs? I also know she did a movie with the great Charlie Chaplain was it just one or many with him? Did she ever talk about her time working with Charlie Chaplin? thanks in advance for any help people lolite blue......... -
I just love Marie Dressler saw her again recently in a vhs version of "Dinner at Eight" when she tells ex beau Lionel Barrymore I'm not in the theatre anymore....... i'll have my double chins in private! i'm busting a gut laughing.....she's wonderful as Carlotta Vance. The end of the movie with Jean Harlow is priceless Jean Harlow tells carlotta (marie Dressler) I've been reading a book !..... the double take Marie does as Carlotta is priceless! Jean Harlow says: The book says machines will take the place of every profession!.... Carlotta (Marie Dressler) looks at Jean Harlow's shapely figure & says "That's something you need not worry about" IT'S THE BEST MOVIE OF 1933 EVER!.... TCM will be showing it march 7, 8:00 a.m. & March 26 at 12 noon. Don't miss it tape if you must the vhs tape is hard to get. You won't regret it.

yes classics fan i'll be glad to share the highlights of Angela Lansbury's interview with larry king. She shared mostly on her career and touched ever so slightly on her personnal life. Her husband peter having been gone a year now that they knew it was coming and he wanted her to be able to move on with life in this new hallmark movie, angela does just that and more. she turned down and never regreted not doing the movie "One flew over the coo's nest"the part of the nurse Louise Fletcher's part because she didn't like the character of the nurse.she did Manchurian candidate because director John Frankenheimer talked her into it. Get the transcript In development talks to do a half hour comedy on cbs next season! talking with writers on how the program will be. Angela wants to show the zany side in her acting abilities. she loves the theatre but wouldn't do it now to lonely a life now that her husband has passed.Angela stressed that she only plays characters that she likes never imagined that she would get an oscar nomination at eighteen.Angela felt Lucille Ball wasn't right for the movie Mame which i totally agree i wish she could've done it.But Angela the gracious lady that she is never said publicly last nite that she wished she had done it so i say it for her. Angela just loved doing the play "Mame on broadway she couldn't wait for the eight o'clock curtain everynite I hope i did the interview justice for all. Please Angela do private screenings with Robert Osborn .......WE LOVE YA SO MUCH!!!!!!

my favorite costume designer is "Edith Head " she knew her stuff even before the studio heads did. The studio heads would tell her to do such & such in some cases Edith would do the opposite and she would be right in doing so in all cases!... That a gal Edith!! right on!!
