  1. Hollygo;

    Crorrect on my incorrectness. My naming 1963 was a typo and poor proofreading. And the TCM site on the title says _1984_ . Other differences; a couple of commentators on the IMDb site mention the existance of a (poor quality) VHS of the film. I had been given the impression there was no copy, VHS or DVD. And Leonard Maltin's Movie Guide (2010) mentions that the movie was remade in 2008 as *Erendira Ikikunai*. The IMDb site for that title describes a different story altogether -- something about a culturial heroine who fought against the Spanish invaders. Anyway, I want to reread it, and I'd like to see it if possible.

  2. icbicb;

    Thanks. I'm taking steps now to get a copy of the short-story collection that includes that one. I remembered it as a novel or novella. The national origin, by the way is Columbia.

    I also found that TCM has it on its list, with no info but title, director and cast. It may be that the time I saw it was here on TCM. That would place it at some point since 1995. I added my vote (to 4 others) to urge them to have a DVD made. I'm also going to post on "Suggest A Movie" to urge that it be aired. This may be the only way to see it, and I would appreciate any support that others can give in adding their requests. Here's hoping.

  3. Enough.

    Character actor Ed Grady had that speech as "Judge Marcus" in 1994's *A Simple Twist Of Fate*. The story was filmed some six times with the title of the origional novel, *Silas Marner*, starting in the Silents era. This version brings the story into the 20th Century, and re-locates it to an American community. It does not use the origional character names. For this outing, a stolen horse becomes a stolen sports car, but the changing water level still reveals a corpse, stolen savings, and the remains of the car. The lonely recluse whose life was turned around after he reared a foundling orphan gets to keep the child. The wealthy man who spent years concealing paternity loses.

    NEW QUOTE: Went by on TCM just this morning:

    "I won't work for _any_ man after he fires me!"

    Who? Film?

  4. mr6666 seems to be taking a break. I'll try another scene.

    A young lady is selected for a singular honor in the congregation's Easter celebration. She is to place the crown of thorns on the head of the Christ figure. She is at the top of the ladder, performing this rite, when the word goes around the assembled worshipers on the ground: The maden thus honored is pregnant.

    1990s. Who? Title?
