"The perp left a half-a*s blood trail for a hundred yards or so. Maybe wounded. I've already started a man on checking with clinics and emergency rooms."
"Go the extra mile on that. Check for people like fired doctors and nurses, moonlighting EMS guys, boxing gym cut men. The people they go to when they don't want a police report. Hey, Sully; Any chance one of your street-level snitches can..."

Correct on *Drugstore Cowboy* Since the fiends made a practice of robbing drugstores, I had to manouver around that word while posting clues. Matt Dillon and Kelly Lynch hitting on all cylenders in a tough, unsentimental script. Novelist William S. Burroughs played Tom The Priest.

As a money-making interprise, a Family arranges a marathon bicycle race, intended to attract an audience, generate gambling on the event, and sell refreshments. They are reviving an idea from the 1920s, and putting it in the hands of people who have a hard time organizing anything. Also, one of the factions uses a lion for intimidation when dealing with outsiders.

The man who goes into Rehab, leaving wife and friends behind, winds up clean and coping. But there is no relaxation of tension. He still has the temptations. It helps some to start councelling others.

"Okay, get the surveillance tape. Let's see if it shows anything about the robbery."
"No good. That camera's not hooked up to anything. It's just for show."

Like any junkies, this crew will gain money (by any means) and purchase from dealers. But often they move more boldly. They gang up, create distractions, and then grab and run, taking the Rx meds from a pharmacy. This results in a Gypsy lifestyle, staying on the go in order to avoid
creating a pattern of crimes in one precinct.

Thanks, Sixes.
Dabbling into that subject again, I was reminded of a little factoid I picked up at some point in the last midcentury: An early 1960s mag story about the WWII personnel who dealt with unexploded
bombs during the London Blitz. The recruiting literature asking people to volunteer for this job mentioned that the ideal Bomb Disposal Officer should be "strong, unmarried and a fast runner."
Anyway, new quote:
"Sarah just didn't seem to have a generous spirit. Maybe because she'd never had anything to be generous with."
Who? Film? (It is narration, not conversation.)

"...proceeds in life under the impression that someone he knows is a strange but benevolent presence..."
That sounds like *Great Expectations*, where Pip thinks Miss Havasham is his benefactor, when actually he is being funded by an escaped convict whom he aided years ago when he was a lad.
The other choice? The only thing I can come up with is Prof. Harry Hill pretty much taking over city govt. and school board to put down the trouble in River City in *The Music Man*.
Any hits?
