  1. Yes. I saw it on original release in NYC, with some very savy folk...when it had ended, everyone just sat there in amazed disbelief, as if it was the first film they had ever seen. I rarely use the word magnificent...superlatives seem to have taken the place of more selective words, these days...cool, awesome etc., but with regards to this film, I DO use the word magnificent.

     

    Those who find it fashionable to denounce the films of the seventies need to view this and HAROLD AND MAUDE to realize that some gems came out of a bizarre decade.

  2. I'm going to answer the question relative to my understanding of it...

    'WHAT FILM EMBODIES THE ESSENCE OF THE GENRE (FILM, as entertainment)

     

    That would be one film, and my choice would be DAYS OF HEAVEN.

     

    It tells an interesting story in a very entertaining way...it features attractive, believable characters, its photographed magnificently and the score is original and appropriate to the story. It's the correct length, and it's edited beautifully. It is truly a total package
