  1. I'm having my dog memorize 1984 as I type, just in case there's some Fahrenheit 451 action around here when they (the thought police) arrive!!!!!!
  2. Does 'old man Potter' remind anyone else of a certain vice president.? Tragically, his character isn't fictional. Shame on me!! I'm feeling a bit cheeky and outspoken today, sorry if I offended anyone.
  3. Now that you have pointed this innocent mistake out, I was a child and childhood memories can be a bit cloudy, the face of the actor is coming back to me, thanks. :)I would like to see this version again. I don't think I mentioned anything about Mystery being on PBS, but thanks for the information.
  4. The Ghost and Mr. Chicken Deathtrap Silver Streak Clue
  5. I concur Cinemascope. Many moons ago I worked with someone who thought that the best film she had ever seen was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Go figure! How's that for subjective? Message was edited by: snowfal1
  6. Klondike, that is so funny, my parents used to say, "I don't want you kids out gallavanting around." I had forgotten! My mom used to say, "You kids stop jumping around like two **** in a frying pan."

  8. How nice that you remember your professors! I too took a film class for an elective. The prof. that I had timed every film and worked his lecture backwards from run time (lecture, 10 minute break, run film). Some of the students skipped the films, but I had the lab instructor (grad. student) who made you fill in a questionnaire on each film during run time. After the film was finished, he stood at one of the exit doors collecting each questionnaire from his students. This was a 300 head count lecture hall and you could tell who was in Mr. J's class by the lightening bug penlights that flashed in the dark. He coupled his questionnaires with a fifteen page paper, short response papers, and film clips to engage the class in discussion. His lab presentation worked to create a deeper understanding of the materials that were presented in the large lecture. Bubble/multiple choice tests were also given in lecture. On the last day of lecture our Prof. finished the evening with Wallace saying to Gromit, "Good Show, Gromit." I remember the grad. students clapping. They were probably happy to see themselves one step closer to their masters, but I thought their clapping was nice. I loved that class and my instructors!!
  9. Cinemascope, I was just thinking that maybe I'm being a hypocrite because I love jumping and dressage. I'll have to think on this.
  10. what does "troll" mean when speaking of someone on a thread? E.g. He/she must be a troll... Thank You,
  11. Actually, I have thought that it would be nice if TCM were to carry some recent films.By recent I mean 1960's, 70's, and 80's. Another thought that came to me was the idea of having another TCM channel that carried more recent films. I also would love to see TCM pick up a channel that carried TV series. They could show the TV miniseries along with the regular TV series on the new TCTV.
  12. Cinemascope, yes, I have watched Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken, I didn't enjoy watching the horses jump off the high ramp. However, I loved the horses' beauty and intelligence. I also enjoyed the courage of the main character.
  13. Warner Brothers remake of Black Beauty, Walt Disney's, The Horse Masters, and the series All Creatures Great and Small. Message was edited by: snowfal1
  14. Yes, I agree with you on this Masterpiece production. I must say that I was surprised by the film. Masterpiece Theatre is kind-of my solace in the storm of searching for something well done to watch. I remember watching a Masterpiece version of this novel with I was rather young. I remember Dracula flapping his way up or down the wall of his castle. It seems to me that Chris Sarrandon (sp) played Dracula, could be wrong, I was young. Anyway, that scene really scared me. How do you spell Chris Sarrandon's name anyway? blush, blush
  15. Just noticed that Hugh had a small part in Black Adder II, "Beer." Character's name was Partridge. Should be fun to continue through the series and see how many other characters he plays. I have a penchant for David Tennant. He's such a cutey! And, Billie Piper is a beauty! I can't believe she's gone! Please, come back to the five and dime Billie P.
  16. I remember the film, but I don't know if it is available on DVD. Try looking up Elizabeth Montgomery films/series. I would love to purchase a copy of The Awakening Land miniseries.
  17. Yep, that's right. He played Prince of Wales/Prince Regent/George. He also played a role later in series, Black Adder Goes Froth. I can't think of his character's name at the moment? Anyone else know it?

    "Oliver!"

Actually, Oliver! won best picture and best director. Please calm down, these are just thoughts shared by people about movies. I don't think anyone on this page was trying to have some form of argument. Someone commented on their memory of the film Oliver!. I liked the film as a child and I still like the film as an adult. Speaking of Oliver! brought the film Scrooge to mind and so... that's how the lexicon works.
  19. I assume that you are speaking of Hugh Laurie who was among the cast of the Black Adders series. Can you tell me the name of his character? Do you think he could break away from the series "House" long enough to be in the film? Oh great, now I want to watch the DVD collection of Black Adder! And then there's Dr. Who! If you watch the Dr.: Which series do you like best? Which Dr. do you like best. Message was edited by: snowfal1
  20. Wouldn't it be a delightful ride to have the Black Adder cast make a film version of The Odyssey. Rowan Atkinson as Odysseus would be hilarious. No matter what they teach you in school, let's face it, Odysseus is a major goof-up! It's a comedy. I'm posting this because I am tired of the serious films based on the Odyssey. O' Brother Where Art Thou excluded of course.

    "Oliver!"

Oliver! (winner of 6 academy awards) was a treat for us to see as children too. How do you feel about Scrooge (the musical) that came out after Oliver? Message was edited by: snowfal1
  22. Glad to see that there is another fan of the television miniseries. I remember The Dark Secret of Harvest Home. Message was edited by: snowfal1
  23. JAKEMAN, Being a film buff isn't just about R rated movies. So, don't be in a hurry to watch them! Besides, film is about more than gore. Film is about camera angles, lighting, use of color, setting, etc. These things you'll learn in film classes when your older. When you get to these classes you will have in your reserve a basis to draw on. Watch the older films and begin to view them with an eye that looks for detail. Also, there are different theories that you will need to learn. These are the types of things that you will learn in an undergrad. 100 or 200 level class. So, you can begin by looking at how the director worked to convey a mood and/or emotion for the audience. What isn't seen on camera is often times far more chilling then any gross-out fest!
