  1. Frank - I think we would get along famously if we were co-workers but I don't see how we'd ever get any work done between baseball, MST3K and Gary and other movie discussions . My other Gary/baseball buddy recently retired and that stinks. My boss is a big Astros fan too though but nobody else likes Gary or MST3K. That's okay though b/c I can talk to myself about them for hours (it's the whole only child thing I guess - ha!). I watched *Top Secret* yesterday afternoon and I was worn out by the time if was over from laughing non-stop. I loved it and the connection with *Cloak and Dagger* was great. Dan - I'm glad you're giving some more of Barbara's movies a try as she's one of my faves ya know. *Babyface* and *Sorry, Wrong Number* are both very good. I recorded *Martha Ivers* this morning and I'm excited to see it. I have got to see *Double Indemnity* too. I think Frank's right in that I probably wouldn't like noir films in general but maybe a few here and there like *Indemnity*.
  2. *Angie, that picture of Gary in his Bengal outfit with the two ladies is great. He looks so sexy there, mustachioed and all. I'm trying to figure out what's holding those dames up, they can't manage to stand up so close to him!* I think that 'dame' on the right is his mom (ha!) but I'm not sure about the other one. It looks like she's having the same reaction I would - giggling like an idiot!!
  3. *The Fountainhead* is my least fave of all of Gary's films but you are right in that he will definitely make you drool in that one. In general I find him much sexier in his 40s and 50s than any other years. The scenes between him and Patricia are so hot that if you put a pot of water near the tv I think it would boil!! That's when their lengthy affair began that almost ended his marriage so the passion between the two is very real. Here are some of my fave pics from that one. Here's my personal fave.
  4. *NWMP* *Beau Sabreur* *Bengal Lancer* *Friendly Persuasion* (this is way too cute!) *His Woman* *Casanova Brown* *Pride of the Yankees*
  5. Are you calling me a hillbilly? (ha!). Technically I'm a hick b/c I'm from the prairie and it's flat, no hills.
  6. If you think that song is bizarre you oughta hear another one he has called 'Ticks'. He does actually have some real good serious songs but his funny ones are really great. *Ticks* Everytime you take a sip In this smoky atmosphere You press that bottle to your lips And I wish I was your beer And in the small there of your back Your jeans are playing peek-a-boo I'd like to see the other half Of your butterfly tattoo Hey that gives me an idea Lets get out of this bar And drive out into the country And find a place to park 'Cause I'd like to see you out in the moonlight I'd like to kiss you way back in the sticks I'd like to walk you through a field of wildflowers And I'd like to check you for ticks I know the perfect little path In these woods I used to hunt Don't worry babe, I've got your back And I've also got your front I'd hate to waste a night like this I'll keep you safe you wait and see The only thing allowed to crawl all over you When we get there is me You know ever guy in here tonight Would like to take you home But I've got way more class than them And that ain't what I want 'Cause I'd like to see you out in the moonlight I'd like to kiss you way back in the sticks I'd like to walk you through a field of wildflowers And I'd like to check you for ticks Oooh, you never know where one might be And oooh, there's lots of places that are hard to reach I'd like to see you out in the moonlight I'd like to kiss you way back in the sticks I'd like to walk you through a field of wildflowers And I'd like to check you for ticks Oh, I'd sure like to check you for ticks This one really cracked me up b/c I dated a guy once in college and we were out in the prairie were I grew up and after our date we went walking through a clearing in the woods b/c it was a real pretty night and there were like a million stars out. It was nice and thankfully he didn't ask to check me for ticks but he did kiss me way back in the sticks!
  7. Brad Paisley has a new song out called 'Online' and it's hilarious. It made me think of our little group here (well sort of anyway - ha!). I especially love the part about the marching band b/c I was in band from 5th grade through college - band nerds rule!!! *Online* I work down at the Pizza Pit And I drive an old Hyundai I still live with my mom and dad I'm 5 foot 3 and overweight I'm a scifi fanatic A mild asthmatic And I've never been to second base But there's whole ?nother me That you need to see Go checkout MySpace 'Cause online I'm out in Hollywood I'm 6 foot 5 and I look damn good I drive a Maserati I'm a black-belt in karate And I love a good glass of wine It turns girls on that I?m mysterious I tell them I don't want nothing serious 'Cause even on a slow day I could have a three way Chat with two women at one time I?m so much cooler online So much cooler online When I get home I kiss my mom And she fixes me a snack And I head down to my basement bedroom And fire up my Mac In real life the only time I?ve ever even been to L.A Is when I got the chance with the marching band To play tuba in the Rose Parade Online I live in Malibu I pose for Calvin Klein, I've been in GQ I'm single and I'm rich And I've got a set of six pack abs that would blow your mind When you got my kind of stats It?s hard to get a date Let alone a real girlfriend But I grow another foot and I lose a bunch of weight Every time I login
  8. It is a beautiful ring. My mom kept if for me when I was a kid and every now and then I'd ask her to get it out and I would just look at it. My grandma only had sons so she was gonna give it to my mom when she died but then she got cancer when I was a baby (I was her first grandchild and the only one she knew) and she asked my mom if she would mind if she left it to me instead so that's how I got it. She died when she was only 47. I wish they had had better treatments back then and she might still be alive today. I bet Gary could have lived longer too with more advanced treatments. I just think it's so sad that he died before Maria got married.
  9. Speaking of interesting stories from your grandparents here's one that stands out the most for me that my grandma told me. During WWII she was between the ages of 8 and 12 and both her older brothers had gone to war and her mom had already been widowed twice. One of her sisters was old enough that she was already married leaving her and her mom and her two other older sisters at home. Well my grandma wanted a christmas tree real bad but they couldn't afford one. They had some little pine trees in the backyard and she begged her older sisters to help her cut one down but they weren't interested so she did it herself and drug it inside and set it up. They couldn't afford to buy ornaments but another woman told her that if she mixed up Ivory soap flakes with water and made a paste she could put it on the tree and it would look like snow so that's what she did in place of conventional decorations. After she got married in the 50s she has put up a beautiful tree every year with real ornaments and she just loves it. It really makes you thankful for all we have today when you hear stories about someone wanting something as simple as a christmas tree.
  10. My best friend Lisa lost all her grandparents when she was a kid too. She's kinda adopted my grandma as her own. My dad's mom died when I was 2 so I don't remember her but last Christmas he gave me a beautiful pic of her from the 40s when she was in her teens. She left me her wedding ring too and it's absolutely gorgeous. My grandpa bought it for her when he was in Portugal with the Navy. It's white gold with two circles of diamonds around a bigger diamond in the middle. It's really fancy so I don't wear it much, I really should though.
  11. Back in the early 90s Taco Bell had a commercial that was spoofing different songs. They took lines from the songs and made them about their different menu items. I only remember one but it has stuck with me all these years. It's sung to the tune of 'Dance With Me' Sour cream, I want to top your taco, sour cream! Man I sing that to myself any time I see anything related to sour cream or tacos - ha!
  12. I'm sorry to hear about your grandpa. Mine passed away three years ago and it's been real hard on my grandma too. They were married a little over 50 years. Sometimes Gary reminds me of my Papaw a little. They were both tall and thin and had a similar drawl in the way they talked, epspecially in some of Gary's later movies. My step-grandma (stepdad's mom) also loves Clint Walker. If you did notice Gary's chest hair, I might start to worry about you - ha! Seriously though, the first thing I noticed about him was how great an actor he was when I saw *Pride of the Yankees* a couple years ago. I mean, I got so sucked into that movie that I don't think I moved the whole time it was on (except to reach for a kleenex). For some reason though it was another year before I saw anymore of his movies when he was star of the month last December. When he first came on the screen in *Meet John Doe* I was blown away by how gorgeous he was and kinda mumbled to myself 'why didn't I see it in *Pride of the Yankees*?'. I think it's b/c he was just so great as Lou Gehrig that even now when I watch it I don't really see Gary playing Lou, I just see Lou. I think you'll really enjoy all the films in the box set you're getting. It's a good mix of genres ranging from adventure to romance to comedy. It's also a pretty broad range of characters for Gary so you get to see him as a struggling young artist (Design for Living), a tough but compassionate soldier (Beau Geste and Bengal Lancer), a sensitive, romantic man (Peter Ibbetson), and a lonely freedom fighter (General Died at Dawn). My faves are *Peter Ibbetson* and *General Died at Dawn*. GDD is a strange film in that it's got some plot holes that really bug me but it's strangely hypnotic and just fun to watch. It was a also a big hit when it came out and I read comments about it somewhere (probably IMDB.com) where someone said it may not be the best movie ever made but it's certainly one of the most entertaining. *I loved when Coop just put his hands on Gina's hips in Cloak and Dagger. A very smooth move by Coop. I also love Gina's reaction to his "move."* If that man put his hands on my hips he better be ready to catch me b/c I would lose consciousness and I'm not even joking. I know how I get around my Sugarbritches, I practically forget how to speak and I get a serious case of the jelly legs. I can only imagine how much worse it would be around Gary so kudos to all the actresses who were able to keep it together while doing a scene with him (especially if it involved any actual physical contact - ha!). Love those screencaps you posted too, very nice!
  13. Oh man those are some gorgeous pics!! I've never seen the one in the middle - yay a new Gary pic!! I love the look on his face in the bottom one from *Friendly Persuasion*, it's so serious but in a good way, if that makes sense. We're definite basket cases. I don't know Kim, I love purses (I gotta a ton of them) so maybe I'll be a purse case - ha!
  14. *They are exciting to me! And I can't print here all the reasons why!!!!* I'm pretty sure I can use my imagination and figure out what you mean It's weird b/c there are some scenes in his movies where like he'll run his hand up the woman's arm and I swear I can feel it and it makes my hair stand on end. Especially in *Doomsday* during the haystack make-out scene. Oh I'm melting in my cube right now!!!!
  15. *I focus on both the chest hair and the eyes* Here's my system. If chest hair is showing, I focus on that b/c you don't get to see it as much as you do his eyes. If it's a close shot of his face then you go back and forth between the eyes and lips. If it's in color however, you just focus on the eyes. Also you can't neglect his beautiful head of hair. Oh my gosh I love the man's hairline, it came down to a little point in the middle of his forehead and I love it!!! Could he be any cuter?! I just wanna grab those adorable cheeks and pinch 'em! (The ones on his face, just in case any of you had your minds in the gutter - ha! Oh who I am kidding, I practically live in the gutter.)
  16. *He had the most beautiful, exciting hands of any actor I've ever seen.* I don't think I've ever heard anybody describe someone's hands as exciting - ha! It fits him though.
  17. Beautiful pics!!! Physically the man seems to have had no flaws. I love really tall guys too and it's just so cute how much taller he was than all his leading ladies. Ingrid Bergman, Audrey Hepburn, and Patrica Neal were on the tall side for women but still much shorter than him. Ingrid said she loved that in movies with Gary she didn't have to take her shoes off during scenes with him as she was 5'9" and many of her other male co-stars were quite a bit shorter than Gary. It's so cute too in *Fighting Caravans* and *A Farewell to Arms* he has to bend way down to kiss Lili Damita and Helen Hayes. It just broke my heart too when I read about kids picking on Gary b/c of his height. I read in the Hector Arce book that between the age of 14 and 15 he shot up over a foot to around 6'. That means when he was 14 he was just under 5' tall. That's hard to picture - ha! Then by the time he was 16 he had grown more to be 6'3". I can imagine he definitely stood out in a crowd and when you're different (even if it's generally a good attribute like being tall) you get picked on. I was under 5' and right around there in jr. high and early high school. I was so glad when I finally got to 5'4" and was at least average and quit getting picked on. I hate too that the British kids picked on him b/c of his western accent and then when he moved back to Montana those kids picked on him about the British accent he picked up. I'm sure it didn't help either that his mom made him wear his fancy British school clothes on his first day back in Montana where everybody else was wearing overalls. I know what you mean too about how even though he was a big guy he had very gentle mannerisms. So many people have said that about him too that he was just such a gentle and calm person, it comes across in his mannerisms too.
  18. Theresa loves his eyes, April is hypnotized by his hands and I go weak at the sight of chest hair. We're sure a crazy bunch . There is one scene in *Peter Ibbetson* (I don't want to give too much away since Frank hasn't seen that one yet) but Mary and Peter are in her room and they're laying on the floor and their hands are next to each other and then they hold hands. Wow!! His hand looks absolutely huge in that scene and her's is to tiny. I just love it :x
  19. Okay for some reason part of my last post isn't showing up even though I've tried to edit it. Here's the part that didn't show. It's funny b/c the other girls here feel the same way about not liking to see him get hurt and I've read where lots of other actresses and just women in general who knew him said the same thing, that he just kinda brought out the motherly feeling in them, like they wanted to take care of him. Roberta Haynes, who co-starred with him in *Return to Paradise* took care of him when he got real sick on the island with his ulcers. She said there were other people there who could have taken care of him but she said she wanted to do it. She also said they didn't have an affair so again I guess it was just the motherly feeling of not wanting to see such a nice guy in any kind of bad situation. Message was edited by: coopsgirl
  20. Maybe this weekend I'll get around to watching *Top Secret* again. It has been so long since I've seen it that I don't remember anything about that one. I'm sure I'll enjoy it though now having seen *Cloak and Dagger*. I love spoof movies. I have all the old *Police Squad* episodes on DVD (there were only 8 which was such a shame) and it doesn't matter how many times I watch 'em, they crack me up every time. I got my dad's weird sense of humor I guess. I bet your not surprised either that my fave part of the first *Naked Gun* movie is the baseball game at the end. Especially when 'Enrico Pallazzo' is frisking the catcher. OOOH how I'd love to be an umpire - ha! I guess it's okay that you aren't watching Gary's movies just b/c he's in them. Maybe someday you'll get to that point when you become a full fledged cult member, uh I mean 'fan'. After seeing the first few of his back when he was Star of the Month last year I was blown away by how great the movies were and how wonderful he was in them. I saw *Meet John Doe*, *Ball of Fire*, and *Cowboy and Lady* back to back to back and thought 'man these are great I gotta see more'. I couldn't wait for his day to roll around again the next week so I went out and bought the box set with Sgt. York and a few single movies too. There were a lot of actors and actresses that I liked at that point but I really only liked some of their movies so it really made an impression on me that I was really loving every movie of his that I saw. I think *Dallas* was his first western that I watched and I was surprised that I genuinely enjoyed the movie b/c I have never liked westerns (still don't unless it's a Gary western). Never been a real big fan of war movies either. There are some I like but overall it's not a genre that I watch a lot but Gary's war movies are great. Long story short I guess what I'm trying to say is I'm still kind of amazed at how much I like all the different genres of films he made. I think it's b/c he was just such a great actor and he picked good roles. *What if you were alive in the 40s and the government asked you to help them save Gary Cooper? Are you game? I'm sure you'd still be hesitant, but could you be talked into it?* I'm definitely game and I would not hesitate!! It genuinely bothers me to see him get hurt onscreen especially if I know it was him really doing a stunt and it did actually hurt him, so if he was in trouble it's Angie to the rescue!! Like Barney Fife, I'm little but I'm wirey - ha! There was another woman too (I can't remember her name, sorry) who was the wife of an actor who was throwing a party and Gary was there (early-mid 30s I think). Rocky was in New York visiting her mom and she wanted Gary to go the party and kind of report back to her what everybody was wearing and all the party gossip and stuff like that. So the woman notices him sitting by himself off in a corner avoiding the guests I suppose b/c he didn't particularly want to be there and she felt sorry for him and spent the rest of the party just sitting next to him. It was cute b/c she said that all women loved him, some in a romatic way and some in a motherly way. That also jives with what John posted a while back about never finding any evidence about women disliking him. I don't see how you could though, man or woman, b/c he absolutely oozes likeability. 21. 1. Who is she? Barbara Stanwyck 2. Why is she a favorite? She was a wonderful actress and could play such a variety of roles from good girls to mean women with equal amounts of believability and naturalness. She comes off as very likeable in real life and would have been cool to hang out with. 3. What movie of hers is your favorite? Meet John Doe 4. Where did you see it. theatre, TCM, dvd, other: TCM 5. When was it made? 1941 1. Who is she? Jean Arthur 2. Why is she a favorite? Like Barbara, she was a wonderful actress and just seemed like a cool person. She was very private and also quite camera shy so making films was difficult for her but she loved doing it. I think it was really cool that even though she was so camera shy she didn't let it get the best of her and when the camera would roll she would just light up. 3. What movie of hers is your favorite? Mr. Deeds Goes to Town 4. Where did you see it. theatre, TCM, dvd, other: DVD 5. When was it made? 1936 I might have missed these wonderful actresses if it hadn't been for Gary Cooper. I first saw them in movies with him and they stood out to me more than any others he worked with. I have since seen many of their films (even some on the big screen) and they were just wonderful at their craft and are my faves. It's hard to pick of favorite film for both of them so I picked the first movies I saw of theirs which are definitely tops on my fave list.
  22. I LOVE that screencap of Gary with the apple Frank!!! I don't know what it is but I love watching that man eat apples (I know, I'm weird - ha!). There's a scene in *Morocco* where he's very slowly taking a big bite out of an apple and I swear it makes me go weak all over everytime I see it and kinda puts me in a trance. Here's a link to a website that has that clip. Just scroll down to the M's and click on Morocco if you're interested. http://www.doctormacro.info/Film%20Clips.htm
  23. You should be able to find the old shows along the right side if you scroll down. There's an option to download and an option that says show overview. I normally pick the overview and then it opens up a new window and the show will start. However, Robert's show doesn't have that option so you'll have to download it.
  24. Thanks! I do love making those videos. I've got another that I just finished using clips from *Ball of Fire* set to Jerry Lee Lewis' song Great Balls of Fire. I just haven't had a chance to put it on youtube yet b/c internet at home has been kinda spotty and it keeps cutting me off before its finished uploading. I'll try it again this afternoon.
  25. *ST is basically a lot of foreplay between Coop and Ingrid with a story wrapped around it* Couldn't have described it better myself!! Now I'm gonna go and set that pic as my desktop. Not gonna get a lot of work done today .
