You know, that first clue you gave made me think of Loretta Young and Ricardo Montalban; didn't Young's sister marry him? So now your second clue makes me think I'm.....right?
-
Sydney Carton didn't have a pair either I guess. I believe you're so right about Screech and Hallie being detached and dead inside. You call women "ladies", right? That's too old-fashioned. It's like those personal ads where the guy writes, "I'm a gentleman who would love to meet a lady". You know these guys are keeping Mother preserved in the cellar.

Looks like a young Stephen Boyd. Message was edited by: Bronxgirl48

I'm drawing a blank. Might you provide another clue?

Hmmm.....I'm thinking, I'm thinking......

The first time I saw VALANCE I didn't know the significance of that beautiful shot of Tom's coffin in the opening scenes. But last night I almost CRIED when I saw it, how poignant it looked -- how lonely...I can't abide thinking of what Tom did all those years without Hallie....did he become an alcoholic, or a recluse? I didn't think it was believable that Ranse in the final scene on the train actually wants to return to Shinbone to set up a law practice. Hallie has always dreamt of going back, but isn't Ranse supposed to be considering running for President? It's wonderful that he wants to return, but I just didn't buy it. I'm so glad this thread is still going strong!

Mrs. Bubba not only came to Boca this afternoon, but she came to my clubhouse, where there was a sizeable crowd. Hey, I've never seen a (former) first lady before, much less one running for president, so of course I joined the throng passing through the metal detectors. (they were frisking the 90 year old seniors, lol) Love her or hate her, it was a historical moment and I was glad I went. Chelsea was there too and spoke. See, Frank? Women rule! So treat us with RESPECT. But I still want Gumby as my nominee. Message was edited by: Bronxgirl48

I saw TMWSLV last night on TCM. I'm more in love with Tom than ever. What a noble soul. I hadn't noticed how SCREECHY Rance is. Right, Miss G.?

Re: Marilyn in glasses. She certainly is, in the words of David Wayne, "quite a strudel". More than GG, Mister Grimes, don't you think? I was speaking of Goo, not Gloria.

Unfortunately, I didn't watch that special. My first terrifying introduction to Elizabeth Fraser was in SECONDS. John Frankenheimer must have known how frightening her face was since he exploits her demonic smile and laugh with bizarre camera angles! (the party scene at the beachhouse, where Rock gets drunk and says too much) Constance Ford scares me too. She's got this unsettling sneer, along with her prison matron persona. I was thinking of Kermit....green....but I'll stop now, this is a family thread (well, sometimes, LOL) -
I didn't know there was a musical remake of FOUR DAUGHTERS until I came about a half hour or so into YOUNG AT HEART last night, just as Frank arrived at the doorstep (I THOUGHT I was going to go to bed early, but...) When he went to the piano and started telling Gig Young that the Fates were stacked against him, the lightbulb suddenly went off above my head: he was doing the Garfield role. I have NEVER in my life seen gingerbread cookies as large as Doris bakes them. And she's so genuinely nurturing with the newborn pup. (and with Frank) What is it about Elizabeth Fraser that scares the hell out of me? Is it her maniacal smile? Message was edited by: Bronxgirl48

I wonder if there's a British version of Gumby, with a bowler hat and umbrella.
-
What CAN'T Gumby do? I think I'm voting for him in November.
-
ha ha. Like Fay Wray being told she'd be working with a tall dark leading man.
-
Boy that was a lucky Grey guess on my part.

I was just about to post the Hank Tex clip about 5 minutes before you did; good thing I didn't, lol. Yes, great minds... Never saw PAINT YOUR WAGON. "I was born under a wandering star...." Ward and Edna made a surprisingly sexy couple to me. And they give each other some juicy kisses. Message was edited by: Bronxgirl48

Even pieces of clay need love. Or helicopters.
-
Lovely picture of Goo, LOL. Sure, she can turn into a helicopter, but can she cook?? I'll bet Gumby would like to get her in a lonely place.
-
Betsy Drake drives ME crazy just watching her act.

LOL I see what you mean about Marvin and the river. (what's that from?) That clip is as cool as Lee himself. I love him but haven't seen too many of his films. I noticed DONOVAN'S REEF before they actually gave the titles at the end. I didn't see anything from VALANCE, but maybe I missed it.

Oh, that bathin' Hank and warblin' Tex is one I was gonna post for YOU!!

I love Ward's lusty performance in DRUMS ALONG THE MOHAWK. Edna appreciated him too; you could tell she was checking him out, lol. I wonder if they would have gotten married had circumstances turned out differently. Certainly she would have been constantly comparing him to her Barney, and he'd try his darnest to make her forget! I didn't know there was a new bio out on Jimmy. As well as being folksy, he's also adept at playing sophisticated and urban as in BELL, BOOK AND CANDLE. I totally believe him as a New York City book publisher. I understand Will had the same dual appeal; he could expound his views to politicians and world leaders, all the time being down to earth and of the people.
