Well I finally saw FORT APACHE the other day. I can't praise it enough. I feel this is the best of the trilogy, and deserves to be on a Best Westerns list. I think it's the most fully integrated of the three, in terms of story, characterization, themes, pictorial content, action. And myth vs. reality is explored by Ford before VALANCE. Hank is excellent as the stiff-necked, snobby, foolish, Custer-like Thursday; Duke gives superb support, and with the beautiful closing monologue that is still timely. It's great fun, isn't it? Yes, I'll end it with "You finished?" LOL I too am disppointed "that'll be the day" isn't included, but it's still a prime selection from both those sites.

No, an emetic. -
It's either KING OF or REVENGE OF THE ZOMBIES, with Mantan Moreland. I can't remember the other two actors offhand.

I think I might combine "whattya want", then "did you come here to give me a message or pass the time of day", concluding with "you've got five minutes".

I fell in love with that beautiful mare Whiskey. I loved Kirk's relationship with her. I thought the cross cutting with O'Conner's truck and the symbolism of the product he was hauling, was a bit heavy-handed. And I could have done without the cowboy hat on the highway. Goldsmith's haunting, melancholy score really adds a lot, as does doleful, frustrated Walter and William "Right!" Schallert. Message was edited by: Bronxgirl48

LOL I have to admit it's a tempting idea.

May the telemarketers never stop calling you, for that remark sir.

Offer Britney Spears to Mothra as a sacrifice. If she's not available, get Paris Hilton. Or Angelina Jolie. Message was edited by: Bronxgirl48 -

I can't type or anything now I'm still laughing hysterically. -
I think I may have to go the celebrity impression route, as I don't have a DVD collection of his films to draw on and then pick and choose. I'm frustrated because I'm anxious to get this done exactly right. I want the message to be funny but forthright, assertive and iconic but not provocative or aggressive.

And I also see echoes of Buster as well. Jerry of course lacked the subtlety of these artists, but kept the sensibilities, so I guess that's why the French appreciate him. Go figure.

A wonderful and creative thread, judy, I'm enjoying it! -
I missed the first hour of THE PRIDE AND THE PASSON. Visually beautiful; very watchable. Cary looks dashing and gives a quietly romantic performance. (he looks good to me in 18th century period attire, like THE HOWARDS OF VIRGINIA) Sophia's character seemed under-written.. I'm sure the earth moved for the two of them, both on and off screen. The real star of this film is the cannon, however. Now on to Frank.... I still can't believe it. Maybe he figured he already made a fool of himself over Ava, so why not keep it up with one of the worst miscastings in film history? Every time he said a "Jou know" I couldn't help but think that Al Pacino maybe modeled his Spanish accent from SCARFACE on the Chairman of the Board here. Message was edited by: Bronxgirl48

Fascinating. I didn't know that about a real Vickie Lester.

I can't, I'm IN my room!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Awwwwwww. Looks like he's ready to fly away.

It's very true what you say about those cultural differences. (although Paul Lukas was delightfully gauche and sometimes "light" in LITTLE WOMEN as Professor Baer -- I love him in that role!) The French think Jerry is the American version of Jacques Tati, who really WAS a genius.. So I STILL can't figure out why they make that comparison.

I just saw MARRIAGE ON THE ROCKS. Pretty much a dog of a film, but I do enjoy him as a nerdy type and not a swinger. He was also appealingly geeky and sweet in IT HAPPENED IN BROOKLYN. I'll stay up for THE PRIDE AND THE PASSION tonight; never saw it.

Haven't seen ALGIERS in a long time, don't really remember Sigrid in it. She supposedly was called the Norwegian Garbo. Greta didn't have any sense of humor either, although I thought her intentional deadpan demeanor very funny in NINOTCHKA.

You can see one of Julie's magical lobes in Arkadin's BODY AND SOUL poster. Message was edited by: Bronxgirl48
