GWTW Named All Time Favorite in Poll
Bronxgirl48 replied to MissGoddess's topic in Films and Filmmakers
I hope Burt Lancaster doesn't want to build an oil refinery on it. I think the term "mulled" comes from Scandinavia. Wherever it does come from, IT'S GOOD. Is that the Errol Flynn version of the RL Stevenson story? I'll definitely check out moira's review. -
I won't ask you about those objects of lust. Mine usually involve french fries and Cheese Whiz. Message was edited by: Bronxgirl48

Thank you SO MUCH for the I KNOW WHERE I'M GOING site. How interesting that "pipe-smoking" is actually listed to describe Livesey's screen persona! Message was edited by: Bronxgirl48 -

Ah, Miss G., you are certainly outdoing yourself tonight! David Farrar with a pipe! Torquil with a pipe! Trevor with a pipe! How could Deborah leave David in BN?? I would have forsaken my vows real quick. I think I'm going to buy the Isle of Mull. -

I think if Mia Farrow showed up on my doorstep at midnight, I'd die of fright. Or even in the afternoon on a sunny day. -

I can't watch THE NIGHT WALKER alone in the dark. Or the light. s-c-a-r-y! Even Hayden Rourke will chill you to the bone. Ah, Trevor with a pipe. Roger Livesey with a pipe. Certainly better than Screaming Lee J. Cobb with a pipe in THE DARK PAST. -
I know exactly what you mean about being childishly distracted. In my own version of this, I sometimes think I have the world's shortest attention span. Here is what went on in my mind the other day: "I'm getting older, I can't exercise like I used to, sob, sob....ooooh! SAMSON AND DELILAH is on! I have just enough time to make myself a tuna sandwich before it starts!" I myself would frankly take on ten alligators than face one New York cockroach. As far as answering back to the gators, watch out -- you might not have any feet left to put on those Sara Jessica Parker shoes. Sometimes we actually have fog roll in here in the morning, and I rejoice. Then that damned sun breaks through and I'm depressed for the rest of the day. Yes, give me Heathcliff and Cathy country anyday. I take care of all Duane's problems. We have our little jokes -- I tell him, "Is that an alligator in your pocket or are you just glad to see me?"

With your glorious, gorgeous new photos, you've captured my village and shacks to perfection. Yes, Scone Palance is where Trevor and I have our assignations. Despite the fact there was a play entitled "No Sex Please, We're British", Trevor is, to quote Lillie von **** in BLAZING SADDLES, wet sauerkraut in my hands. Missy's ex Robert Taylor by chance wasn't in that BV episode, was he? (He tried to drive her crazy in THE NIGHT WALKER if I remember correctly) Like a FitzPatrick movie travelogue, we must now bid a fond farewell to the land of kilts and heather......Lady Bronxgirl will always be comin' through the rye, which also includes a little pastrami and chopped liver in between. -
You mean with Ralph, John Carradine, J. Carroll Naish, and The SHE CREATURE? Wouldn't miss it for anything. Message was edited by: Bronxgirl48

Goddess, how simply marvelous of you to post my beloved castles (we just call them "shacks") and all the glorious heather surrounding the countryside. Actually Nessie was not the real reason we left; it was all those abominable TOURISTS throwing their candy wrappers and empty soda cans (sometimes not so empty) onto our land. But apparently our dear beastie took care of a few of these people, because a tour guide came over and wanted to know why Sandy Dennis and Jack Lemmon weren't on the bus back to the States and Akron, Ohio. Basically, we in the Highlands enjoy living the simple life no matter which abode we reside in. The day starts out early, with Cook making us a breakfast of finnan haddie, a rasher of bacon, whole wheat toast, marmalade, and strong tea with fresh milk from the cows, and sugar. I take a daily constitutional with my collies, and chat up the neighbors. Later in the afternoon I bike to the village and browse the book and antique shops. I purchase some magazines and a painting of Robert Burns. I might take in a movie and run into Trevor Howard. We have hours of conversation over scones. Then it's back home to a lit fireplace and a hearty dinner of fresh caught salmon. Roger Livesey stops by for some brandy and biscuits. We have a mermaid at one of the lochs who says hello every now and then. Message was edited by: Bronxgirl48 -
I actually haven't seen it. Know about it as another Holden-Olson pairing, but, never saw it.

I saw PUSHOVER a while back but can't remember it too well. You still think Florida is a paradise? We had a woman last week in our area come into her kitchen and be greeted by.....AN ALLIGATOR. (this is their mating season if you recall me telling you) Can you imagine the horror of it? You're going to maybe make yourself a cup of coffee and are greeted by a 5 million year old reptile looking for amour. An Alligator In The Kitchen. Another Disney classic, starring Fred MacMurray (who else?), Greer Garson, Juliet Mills and Kieron Moore. Estelle Winwood plays the alligator. btw, have you seen DARBY yet?

I shall have a full supply of lairds at your disposal, from the surrounding countryside. A few of them just returned from dragon slaying and could use some good company. -

JOHN AND MARY could have used The Rifleman, let me tell you. A good old Winchester in that script and direction. Lots of topical references, especially Vietnam. Hoffman is a good actor and tries to do something with his part; I just can't stand to look at him. And Mia Farrow, with her revoltingly little girly Peter Pan collar dress, gaunt "figure" and ROSEMARY'S BABY short hair, is about the last thing I'd want to wake up to if I was a guy. Talk about creepy. What was Frank Sinatra thinking?? After having Ava, he goes for that?? -

Who could equal the romance of Mia Farrow and Dustin Hoffman in JOHN AND MARY? I'm watching it right now for the first time, on the Fox Movie Channel. It's a good thing I had an early dinner; otherwise I might never have an appetite again. I thought I was under the weather before...... -
Always wonderful to hear from you Jack, me hearty! Arrrrrr. Loved that you posted that great THOMASINA trailer! I only saw the film once when I was very, very little and sorry to say I don't remember it all that well, but if it's Scottish-based, has magic and witchcraft and Patrick and Susan Hampshire and a cute animal, I'm ready to see it again right now. I remember watching The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh on the Disney show, in installments. You would love it. Wait a minute -- I'm confusing THE THREE LIVES OF THOMASINA with another Disney movie that I saw when extremely young. I was older than that when THOMASINA came out, but why I can't remember it fully, I don't know. The old Baby Boomer memory is REALLY going to pot. Message was edited by: Bronxgirl48

Thanks, Goddess. I must be the only person who gets achy and irritable from too much sun, rather than too little. I've been over-exercising too and I'm just tired of the heat. Yes, a trip to the British Isles would suit me perfectly, physically and emotionally, but I can't get away this year. I like Will Rogers and I'll check the EW schedule to see when and if it'll play again. To show you how under the weather I was, I missed MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT, which I really wanted to see. I plop on the couch and then fall asleep. Message was edited by: Bronxgirl48

They did a couple more films together, I think, to capitilize on their great chemistry in SB. UNION STATION is one; but I can't remember other titles.

Minya, I invite you to the castle this weekend. Bring your tweeds, pearl necklace and Wellies. -
Why I am thinking that "the bump on the end of my nose" speech is from SUNSET BOULEVARD, said by Nancy Olson to Bill Holden, as they're walking down the sets at night and she's telling him she had her nose fixed to become an actress?

OMG -- what a great site, all those FM covers!! What memories they bring back. I think no. 22 had an interview with Lillian Arch, Bela's fourth wife, but I can't remember now. Something about how they went back to Budapest and Bela ordered goulash or stuffed cabbage but they didn't have enough paprika in them, so he sent it back to the kitchen. Lillian said he could eat moe stuffed cabbage than anyone else she knew. That also could have been the issue with the Carroll Borland interview, where whe wants to start smoking, but Bela tells her not to. Then later she lights up and a (real) bat flies near her home and she takes that as a sign from Lugosi not to smoke. (he didn't think "ladies" should, and she was a teenager then and wanted to live it up) Message was edited by: Bronxgirl48

I actually don't remember reading about that in FM with the landladies. I had a full set of FM's as well as a modest collection of rare Bela Lugosi stills. I sold the mags and the stills at a horror con and made some good money!

LOL re:Bob Hope and Milton Berle. (but Milton always stole his jokes, or so I've heard tell) I've been under the weather lately and haven't been watching a lot of TCM or anything else these past few days, including the Western Channel, so I missed JUDGE PRIEST, darn it. (the old Boomer carcass exercising like I was a teenager; doesn't work)
