  1. Hey, there, Frank and Minya. I have to say that I do like the word "lady" in the royal sense -- as in THE LADY EVE. Or The Lady Bronxgirl. I'll amend that to a classier title, The Lady Barbara. Ah... It suits my snobby side, with the castles and the lairds and all that. Message was edited by: Bronxgirl48
  2. You remind me of Jessica Harper in MY FAVORITE YEAR in that regard, lol, who needed Mark Linn-Baker to help get her through a joke she was repeating that he just told. And STILL she screwed it up! Seems that Worden IRL was nothing like a "blankethead" (as Duke keeps calling him in THE SEARCHERS) Message was edited by: Bronxgirl48
  3. I never liked the word "lady". Too matronly and old-fashioned. I like "lassie". I'm a lassie. A lassie is youthful, down to earth, yet still very female. I just want to romp through the heather, then come back and sit in front of the fireplace. Hey, that's a good life for a human being, let alone a doggie.
  4. Awwww. Like Tramp! Push that meatball over to my plate.
  5. You know, I could see those two landladies in their own series, getting involved in all aspects of their tenants life, and commiserating drunkenly on those stairs. What were their names -- Mrs. Moncaster and Mrs. Whack?? Perfect! I remember that scene with Spring, lol, and also when she's on the balcony with Dr. Yogami (Oland), and they hear a scream. "What is it?" she asks nervously. "Maybe a lost soul" says Warner.
  6. And if you say "thank you kindly" to anyone in New York City, they'll look at you like you're from Venus.
  7. My late father told me this movie was the only one that really scared him. He was about 15 when he first saw it. Henry Hull's makeup for me is much more frightening than Lon Chaney, Jr.'s in THE WOLF MAN. I love the two Cockney landladies, and Warner Oland gives a memorable performance. I remember the plant -- the "mariphasa lumina lupina" Or something like that. Message was edited by: Bronxgirl48
  8. The whole movie's on YouTube if you just want to see it there; not as good as renting it of course, but, either way, it's prime Disney.
  9. Frank, if those border collies aren't the handsomest, most affectionate and intelligent doggies around, as shown on that video I posted, I don't know what breed is. So you're in good company!
  10. Thank you for posting this on Hank. I can't imagine him driving a cab in New York City!
  11. This will start you out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVPDLUp6M6s&feature=related I'm not sure how a person will come to DARBY as an adult, however. And Disney lulls you with false security, what with charming handsome young Sean Connery, equally hunky Kieron Moore, pert Janet Munro, the scene-stealing of Albert Sharpe, and the quaint Irishness of it all. The Irish priest seems familiar to me; wasn't he in a few Fords? Then Walt hits you with the horror. As Darby himself says, "In life, we must take the bitter with the sweet". 12. Many people including myself who saw DARBY in our formative years, have been traumatized by it. It is VERY SCARY. Disney is a master at juxtaposing the horrific with the bucolic. Beware not only the banshee, but the Death Coach. Pleasant dreams! Night-nite for now.
  13. I don't think even Roslyn would have objected to Gay shooting the bunnies in NIGHT OF THE LEPUS. I mean, they are BIG m.f.'s. Excuse my French. It's late. I think I'll turn in now, lol.
  14. I didn't know that about Ford's family -- oh my God that's a GORGEOUS photo -- I feel like I'm right there. I wouldn't want to roam around at night either. I've been afraid of banshees ever since I saw Disney's DARBY O'GILL AND THE LITTLE PEOPLE. That movie scares the hell outta me.
  15. I'd like to think that Marilyn would have retained her good looks through her fifties. Maybe she would have embraced vegetarianism and a healthier lifestyle, and gotten her act together emotionally. "Oh, Rob!" Give me a little black top, a pair of white capris or pencil thin jeans, ballet flats, and I can go anywhere in style.
  16. You got it exactly -- sexy and comfortable! Down to earth but alluring. To change tone a bit, look at this. There is something to be said for dying young as a sex symbol: Message was edited by: Bronxgirl48
  17. I love Marilyn's beachy hip look here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6eJO2DoC1w
  18. I hear Ireland, Dublin especially, is getting very global these days. That's good for their economy and prestige, but, something's lost as far as I'm concerned. If I go to a matchmaking festival in Ireland, I want to meet Irishmen! Or someone with a Celtic background.
  19. Since 1917. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westmore_family Message was edited by: Bronxgirl48
  20. Oooh, Ford and Alfred? I will persevere! I love that photo. I would have walked up the makeshift stone steps, looked at Gay, and said, "I'm going in but I'm not coming out!" And I'd make Clark forget all about shooting the bunny.
  21. I feel so happy for Gay and Rosyln that they find each other. Gable got sexier to me as he aged. You mean Jeffrey Hunter and Vera Miles co-star in a Hitch tv episode? Darn it, I clicked on but don't have the necessary Adobe Flash installation to access this. I'll find a way to see it, don't worry. (after all, I found the Screaming Lee J. Cobb, LOL)
