"Strangers When We Meet", good movie
Bronxgirl48 replied to FredCDobbs's topic in General Discussions
Kim Novak's passivity was very sexy, which is a strange thing for me to say I guess. She was supposed to be this beautiful but insecure woman who was probably traumatized by her mother's infidelity and so therefore married the first guy who asked her even though she didn't love him. She wanted immediate security, but didn't figure on a life without passion. (her prissy husband didn't even want her to SAY the word, for heaven's sake) So along comes virile Kirk who takes one look at her and knows what he wants and she sort of falls into his arms as it were. Her character just sleepwalks through life, unaware of the effect she has on men. I couldn't read her expression in the car at the finale. It seemed ambiguous to me. -
Don't worry about it. Holden will do that to a girl!

They're terrific.

Hi, Chi-town guy! LOL -- couldn't agree with you more about PSYCHO, GLEN OR GLENDA, and most especially, Holden as the shrink calming down a furious Cobb. Lee certainly could have used some analysis in TWELVE ANGRY MEN; luckily, wise, liberal architect Henry Fonda was all he really needed to help him change his vote. Come to think of it, Cobb was pretty unstable in a lot of other films as well, including MAN OF THE WEST, ON THE WATERFRONT, and COME BLOW YOUR HORN. There's a thread in here somewhere: "Angry Lee J. Cobb Movies" Message was edited by: Bronxgirl48

I saw THE DARK PAST yesterday, and thought Holden was too intelligent and good-looking an actor to be believable as a career criminal, and my opinion was the same of chic Nina Foch as his "moll". This is a sociology lecture masquerading as a crime noir. Naturally Lee J. Cobb smokes a pipe, so we know he's a psychiatrist. Pretty dull all around.

I'll be back to your Hedy thread early this evening. (before STRANGERS WHEN WE MEET comes on) Gotta run now. Dorothy Lamour and/or Linda Darnell would be too much woman for Richard Carlson. Message was edited by: Bronxgirl48

My pleasure, Ava! One of my favorite Holden films is the charming post-war comedy APARTMENT FOR PEGGY. I've seen most of his 50's work. He was excellent in NETWORK too. A great star! Message was edited by: Bronxgirl48

Mention William Holden to my 87 year old mother, and she gets all dreamy eyed and even a little.....warm. Me too. He had such a string of great 50's films, and there was something very modern and edgy about his performances. He was manly, clean-cut, sensitive yet cynical. I saw him in THE DARK PAST yesterday and even though I felt he was too intelligent and good-looking to be believable as that kind of criminal, (Nina Foch had the same "problem") I always like watching him.

Quite a heady Hedy expeience last night, wasn't it? As if she wasn't beautiful enough, she has a lovely caboose, too! I loved Richard Carlson going all crazy for Tondelayo in WHITE CARGO, lol. Richards Greene and Carlson, and Jeffrey Lynn, can live next door to me ANY time. And Joan can give me cleaning tips! (seriously, I can always use them)

nightwalker, what a great run down on Ralph's versatility; I haven't seen ANYTHING you've listed and want to immediately. So much Meeker, so little time. Thanks for that post.

He still looks good!!! Thanks for that!

Well, they're two good actresses, lol. Page, eh? I wonder what those hygiene ideas were. Apparently Rip Torn didn't seem to mind. Message was edited by: Bronxgirl48 -
Yes, TERROR IN THE WAX MUSEUM! I'd love to see what handsome Patric Knowles looks like in the 1970's.

I've always liked Lainie because she can do comedy really well. But what's this about Geraldine Fitzgerald and her body odor?? This is news to me!! -
LOL -- that poor mummy.

LOVE THOSE PICTURES -- Where did you get them? And with McGoohan's signature yet!

Thanks for validating my unusually good memory in this instance, nightwalker. Yes, I did know about NIGHT CREATURES but never saw it. Message was edited by: Bronxgirl48

I'd rather watch THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE than LOVE STORY. That being said, I'm embarrassed to say that I cry along with Sally Field in MURPHY'S ROMANCE. Message was edited by: Bronxgirl48 -

."Lizards In The Freezer" sounds like a novelty song to me, like "Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer". If the iguanas are male, I am sure Ava or Sue Lyon could lure them out. -
Hi! Yes, this was indeed fun. The next installment is GLORIA GRAHAME VS. THE AZTEC MUMMY.

The poor mountain lion -- he just wanted to go to the St. Ben's Street Fair to find a mate.

Ray Miland and frogs, such a winning combination.
