  1. Bunnies as Thanksgiving dinner, kitties being abused on Halloween, this is horrible. I forgot -- the hapless goose was called Lily. I think celebrating National Potato Chip Day might be safe, although you never know.
  2. LOL, no, not the Mel Welles pontificating giant crab. Not this one either, though I find the human-like use of its claws fascinating:
  3. I was mistaken saying it had the shape of an armadillo, sorry. It actually has the shape of a very large crab species. It's very hard for me to describe it. I'm wrong about the helmet or Volkswagen shape as well. It was a big hefty fleshy crab-lobster thing, but the legs weren't sticking out. It looked very compact. It was responsive in a mammalian way. WHAT IS IT????????
  4. I'm not that up on my early French directors, but Marcel Pagnol was the director of the Fanny trilogy that included "Marius" and "Cesar", made in the early 30's. I believe Raimu (so many Gallic actors abd actresses have one name) was Cesar. I haven't seen these films, but have read about them sporadically over the years. At least you had an excuse with your memory re: your touched-up roots, LOL. For me, those lapses happen every day. (I'm the walk-by-the-letter box-with-letter-in-hand kinda gal) I didn't remember that Marseilles was a "locale" in THE RAZOR'S EDGE. Yes, people are alike all over. (as Roddy discovered in that TZ episode) Had I known NO HIGHWAY IN THE SKY was playing today on Fox I would have scheduled my time for it, darn. I absent-mindedly turned on that channel and saw about five minutes of it, but had chores I had to attend to. I can't seem to access the FMC programming online, like I can with Retroplex or The Western Channel. So Mr. Screech Stroke is in it, eh, and Miss Marlene too? Sounds like my kind of movie. Well, I gotta go now and get ready for the wilds of Deerfield Beach this evening. A co-worker is taking me to an Italian restaurant in that area. Hope the gators aren't crossing the roads. Who knows what horrors await us? I only hope I don't run into Ginger sitting at a red-checked clothed table mooning over Dennis Morgan. Judas Priest! I'm talking a hot shower now. (thank you Rusty) Message was edited by: Bronxgirl48
  5. I just finished reading moira's article on Boyer. She gives new meaning to the world "eloquent". I'm in awe of her skills.
  6. George as Professor Warren! (Like David Warner in TIME AFTER TIME, the human race can be considered rather disposable) My, I'm so cynical today. If Horst to you is even more loathsome than Tony F., I can well understand the depths of your aversion, lol. Mr. B. is awful in MAG 7 yes, as well as everything else I've ever seen him in. (I haven't caught 9 HOURS TO RAMA though, but hes probably obnoxious there as well) "Fanny's Theme" is exquisitively, heartbreakingly beautiful and so, so romantic. Mr. Belinski is very appealing, grumpy but you know how much he loves his son. (even if its Horst) Maurice is a delight as well. They could be accused of overdoing their Gallicness, but I enjoy it. Thanks to Jack Cardiff, you will never see Marseilles looking so gorgeous, with that special "northern light". (he did the same for THE VIKINGS) Leslie is shown in pastel gauzy close-ups, a bit too much for my taste. The male longing for adventure versus domesticity is achingly rendered. (similiar themes in IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE) FANNY does not have the rough-hewn, poetic realism of the original French version, but for a Hollywood movie it's not too bad. 7. No, because everybody FROM Manhattan is living here. Considering the human race is infirm one way or another, George has the whole world open to him.
  8. Now Pamela's a REAL sex symbol and very attractive, and not a bad actress! Love those photos. How wonderful to know she's still around and leading what sounds like a relatively normal family life! I hate Horst. The most obnoxious actor ever. Maybe he should have starred with Ali so their obnoxiousness could have cancelled each other out. In FANNY, if I were Leslie Caron, I would have never wanted him to return from the sea.
  9. Regarding Mr. Tootsie, I'm in total agreement; I don't want to know either. Ugh. Oh, about the knock. Well, we have an emotionally challenged woman living directly under me who passes most of her days wandering around the complex and knocking on doors, asking for cigarettes. She's relatively harmless but a pain in the arse. I didn't open the door of course, but it was her I saw out the living room window. She went away as she always does. We've complained to management, but it's a delicate balance, so to speak, what with the civil liberties of an individual pitted against the well-being and safety of the tenants.
  10. I know. (but I dearly love those Godzilla movies; haven't seen that one) I have to say, like Lou in A&C MEET FRANKENSTEIN, "I saw what I saw what I saw!" Like Bud, nobody believes me!!
  11. You might be right about the cruelty of our human species over the gator. We had an incident last month where a pet goose was kidnapped and horribly mutilated by some kids. The "parents" of this goose would refer to the duck as their child and paint its toenails; nevertheless, I did feel very bad for them losing him that way. Message was edited by: Bronxgirl48
  12. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA Where is Godzilla going to get drawn butter in the middle of the ocean? Close, LOL, but no cigar.
  13. So you like pouty and obnoxious actresses with thick eyebrows? Pamela Tiffin at least held her own in scenes with James Cagney in ONE, TWO, THREE. (yes, imo she DID) Ali couldn't act to save her life. I'm surprised she's lived this long but then again, I don't think she's done many movies lately.
  14. Yes, Ali in every movie is pouty and obnoxious. I've never seen her any different. She's awful. I completely agree with you about George Brent in THE SPIRAL STAIRCASE. That movie scares the heck outta me; I can't watch it. Mild-mannered George.....I remember when Ethel Barrymore tells Dottie to "hide under the bed" if anything bad is about to happen. Elsa is pretty creepy in her own way too. She certainly played a lot of housekeepers during the late forties, didn't she? I have to say that I think Annie is brilliant in THE GRADUATE. Doris is the kind of blonde curvy older woman a young man would really go for, more than lean Bancroft, but I don't think Day could pull off that part. But who in their right mind would want to go to bed with Dustin Hoffman?
  15. Angie not so much; she's got more severe features, but Ali yes, with thinner brows and wavy hair. See, I never thought of MacGraw as a true beauty. She's passable, but I always wanted to look like Moira Shearer or any one of those British/Celtic babes with the green eyes and super-dewy skin. (borne from those years they grew up on the rainy isles) You have that soundtrack?? "Hello life, good-bye, Columbus....." Love it!
  16. Thank goodness I don't have Ali's thick eyebrows. The only actress who looks stunning with heavy brows,.and who is a true beauty, is Brooke Shields. I don't want to marry a studio head or anyone who looks like they wear gold chains around their neck. Give me the Brawny guy on the towel, a Canadian mountie, or Duane. Or a British/Scottish royal. 17. Yes, "Cherish" and "Windy" and "Along Comes Mary" and a whole host of other favorites but I can't remember them right now because there's a knocking on my door at this late hour and it's either an alligator or the crab. I'm diving under the covers. Good night, see you tomorrow! (I hope)
  18. Yes, similiar in some respects. I wish TCM would run GOODBYE COLUMBUS. It's quite underrated. I prefer it over THE GRADUATE, mainly because I hate Dustin Hoffman. Ali in her film debut certainly looks and acts the part (pouty and obnoxious, lol) Message was edited by: Bronxgirl48
  19. Remember the musical group The Association? They did the soundtrack, with the theme song "Goodbye, Columbus" my favorite.
  20. No, she's the spoiled J.A.P. I've always loved Richard Benjamin. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0064381/
  21. That being said, GOODBYE, COLUMBUS is one of my favorite movies. Message was edited by: Bronxgirl48
  22. Nite-nite, Leo! Say hello to Bobby Jordan and Huntz for me.
  23. You have a good memory, what with the actress and my Dad as Bud Abbott AND Milt Kamen, lol.
