LOL Positive. I know this is a species of crab (at least, from what in my limited experience I know a crab to be) but I've never seen anything like it before. After all, before moving to Florida, I was in Chicago for ten years. You don't see a lot of weird marine life crawling around in the Windy City.

I don't have a digital camera. I'm stumped as well. I don't remember the color, I think it was very pale pink but don't hold me to it. I started perusing scsu's Crab Site but other duties interrupted me so I still haven't finished looking at all the photos and reading the text. This thing was crab-like in appearance, about the size of a large football. It genuinely looked like one of nature's mistakes. It came out of the bushes and i know this will sound bizarre, but I sensed it was responding to me in some sort of weird "friendly" way. I stood staring at it and it seemed to "look up" at me. It didn't have all these legs, but a hind leg like a giant grasshopper is what immediately comes back to my memory. It had a shell, but the shell didn't entirely cover it all up. It was like an armadillo-lobster-crab, and it started FOLLOWING ME. The strangest thing is, I instinctively KNEW IT WOULD FOLLOW ME, LIKE A PUPPY OR KITTEN, AND IT DID, almost in a mammal kind of way. There was something very sweet about it.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I think the Service America people get to see training films ( a la the Woody Allen one in LOVE AND DEATH) before heading out on assignments. .

This thing I saw was some sort of crab, but with personality. (I'm not kidding) I want a tall crab, don't want no small crab..... I don't look like Gloria Grahame, so I don't think Frank will be visiting me anytime soon. "She's breathing like an old swamp dog" -

They probably have 12 kids and 12 books by now. I'm telling you, nothing in the world will be as welcome to me right now as being able to take a hot shower in my own apartment, and do my dishes. If the plumber has to send away for a new part or I have to wait one more day, I'm going to have a screech stroke. I'm trying to stay calm by looking through the Crab Website that scsu has helpfully provided me (see Sci-Fi Thread, IT CAME FROM BENEATH THE SEA) with so I can try to identify that weird creature I saw walking down a sidewalk. Fantastic website -- thank you! I will pour through this assiduously, searching for my creature. Heavens, there are 500 species of hermit crabs alone! This will keep me busy until the plumber comes.

Hi, scsu -- thanks, but no, not in any way a beetle or insect. It was definitely a crab but what kind baffles me.

I'm still waiting for a plumber. (I guess Jennifer Jones is busy in Manhattan with Charles Boyer) In addition to my faucet drip, I now have no hot water (since yesterday). It's probably my water heater on the fritz. I'm real grumpy now LOL. The plumber is supposed to come today between 1 and 5, so he'll no doubt be here about 4:55. There goes my whole day. I actually cheer when Dana Andrews is being pursued by Niall's magic. I'm not really a Dana fan although I do like him in LAURA and THE BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES. Voiceover for a noir P&P: "They say that a guy with a lotta dough is looking for an honest dame he can get hitched to". Message was edited by: Bronxgirl48 -

I think there is a movie with Greer and reptiles: HER TWELVE ALLIGATORS. Bogie WOULD look silly with ruffles and a top hat, wouldn't he, lol? -
metsfan and scsu, I don't know how to upload photos or I certainly would of course show you my drawing of that thing. I'll try to describe it this way: picture a helmet or a Volkswagen with hind legs like a grasshopper. That's the best I can do. metsfan, I really appreciate your interest and taking the time to delve into what it might be; unfortunately your photos don't resemble it in any way -- it wasn't spidery at all, more like some sort of crab, but it doesn't seem to be a blue land crab either. So I'm still stumped. Message was edited by: Bronxgirl48

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA It didn't speak French, though. But I'm not kidding about that creature. It was the weirdest form of life I've seen down here. Wait, let me amend that. After all, I'm in South Florida.....

LOL. I wish. The two he had didn't serve him very well.

I am still trying to figure out what the heck that cephalapod-ish grasshopper-ish shell thing I saw crawling along the sidewalk was. If anyone remembers, I posted stuff on it I think last year. I can't get this thing outta my mind, but darned if I can even DESCRIBE it. It crawled along sorta sideways, it seemed "friendly", it followed me like a puppy-dog as I walked in front of it, it had insect-like hind legs but was crab-like. I'm at a loss to know what it was. So octopuses flirt and hold hands? Sounds more romantic than my last boyfriend.

Goldie Hawn and Steve Martin coming out of the sea.

Thanks, bOb. That clip kinda reminds me of "The Sammy Maudlin Show" from SCTV (Eugene Levy as Sammy) Roy is so SWEET and he's next to that viper Don, LOL.

Mom's fine, thanks, Scott; she's driving as if she never left the car, and her doctor hopes her eye will heal naturally on its own now. To attend my class, watching a Greer Garson movie is a prerequisite. Preferably P&P. Now Miss Greer is not the reason I only saw THE HAPPIEST MILLIONAIRE once. It's because I don't like seeing venerable movie stars surrounded by reptiles. Or, in the case of NIGHT OF THE LEPUS, being stalked by killer bunnies. I think the only way you'd watch P&P is if it was a noir version starring another GG and had Humphrey Bogart as Mr. Darcy. -

My faucet needs the Lubitsch touch. Oh, btw, re: alligators. Here is the headline in the Florida Sun-Sentinel this morning: GATORS NEED LOVE, TOO. "Warm weather rouses wanderlust. Keep dogs on a leash and mind small children around water. It's April, it's getting hot, and gators are on the move". -

Maybe there's a movie where an alligator is holding Greer Garson. -

Whenever Audrey is asked by Walter Matthau in CHARADE if she wants a chicken or liverwurst sandwich, I always tell the screen: Take them both! The running gag in the movie is that she keeps eating whenever she's under stress but never gains an ounce, much to the consternation and envy of her friend.. Also, I can never figure out what it is she's eating at the restaurant she goes to with Walter. The waiter brings it; it looks either like a souffle or soup or a parfait, but in this instance she doesn't touch it; only smokes a cigarette nervously.. -
And when he imitated Trigger.

Get out of that pumpkin patch, you'll catch cold. Yes, I saw laffites's gorgeous ships! (and your QUIET MAN screep caps are beautiful) Was that his post you referred to? I'm tired. I came home from the ESL class tonight. I was trying to explain to my Pakistani student what Mr. Potato Head is. She didn't understand. I was introducing the spelling of fruits and vegetables, then got caught up in my own whimsy. For instance, I drew Casper the Ghost and they thought it was an amoeba. I saw THE HAPPIEST MILLIONAIRE once. There is nothing as unfunny as Fred MacMurray trying to be eccentric. Probably the only movie where you'll see Greer Garson holding an alligator. -

I know which place is the least likable, but my lips are sealed. (you're correct, it's not NYC) laffite, I LOVE your beautiful ships. I love maritime museums. I love just the WORD maritime. (and nautical) Shiver me timbers. -

Speaking of squirrels to the nuts, I've got to get a plumber. What's Cluny's number? My faucet is leaking. And I want to move to Maine -- HAH. Can't even fix a dripping faucet... -
