I might have been more kindly disposed if it had been in color. Not that the flashback structure would have been any more satisfactory for me. I always like Luther Adler as a villian, but I don't care for him in costume dramas. (my favorite performance of his is Majak in D.O.A.) He's an excellent actor. (he's also great as the materialistic doctor friend of Paul Muni in THE LAST ANGRY MAN) Don't remember HOUSE OF STRANGERS that well.
Of Gail Russell I have only good things to say, and generally the same for Duke. Their scenes together weren't as charming or memorable here as in ANGEL AND THE BADMAN, but there's no denying they have real (and inexplicable) chemistry as a screen couple.

WUTHERING HEIGHTS, but with an octopus.
Color might have helped. Waste of good cast. Gail Russell is untouchable, however; she's luminous. Duke is miscast, Gig Young is just awful, Henry Daniell and Luther Adler are unfortunately unmemorable, Paul Fix seems to be playing Walter Brennan. Awkward flashbacks, uninvolving mish-mash of a story. I like a good sea-faring adventure yarn, but this isn't it.
"Taratonga has spoken!"
And so have I: IMO this is a dog..

James Caan in EL DORADO I'm guessing would be better than Ricky Nelson in roughly the same part. But imo James Caan is not too attractive. (and he's got the ugliest SHOULDERS; second only to Larry King)
I'm looking forward to ANGEL AND THE BADMAN tonight!
And WAKE OF THE RED WITCH.
Well, I'm expanding my Stewart Manns -- recently saw BEND OF THE RIVER and lurved it Enjoyed it much more than THE MAN FROM LARAMIE. Great Kennedy and Jimmy. ("I'll be there!") I love the moral complexities explored, the sardonic, witty script, the beautiful scenery and score. So many good lines. "The law will know what to do with you!' -- Stewart: "What law?"
And saw my first Boetticher Scott, RIDE LONESOME. Solid, economical, no frills, good Pernell Roberts and James Coburn. Nice turn by James Best. Not since Jane Russell in THE OUTLAW has a female chest been so distracting -- Karen Steele is filmed mainly in profile, and she's, well, formidable.
Lots of western firsts for me: saw THE HORSE SOLDIERS -- Ford does the Civil War. Beautifully filmed, quite picturesque.. In one scene, Bill Holden and Duke are shot through reeds. But I could really have done without the "leg or breast? question by Connie
Towers. Holden's "modern", sardonic, cynical doctor perfectly complemented Wayne's iconic big-guy I'm-giving-the-orders persona. I didn't think the love story was believable.

I thought it was strange that balloons and Frank Morgan were mentioned post-OZ in THE SHOP AROUND THE CORNER, but I was "blown away" by Morgan's wife making balloon connections with hubby Frank in BROADWAY TO HOLLYWOOD.
I'll keep watch on further Frank Morgan balloon patterns, as I know this is a crucial topic of interest.

LOL, I'll take my smelling salts with me.
Aww, but thanks anyway, Frank, for letting me know.

Charles Laughton was great in both.

This show used to scare me back in the day -- especially John Newland himself -- just his deadpan face and whispery voice was enough to give me the chills, not to mention that eerie score. After reading your post, I took a trip down memory lane and spooked myself silly looking at those episodes on YouTube.

For Nat Pendleton completists, it's worth having, lol.
And Bela fans, of course.

".....faster than lightening...." Oops. I have to say, I kinda like Flipper as well as westerns.
Eek-eek. (my dolphin impression)
I was watching some of RIO BRAVO for the first time this evening on you should pardon the expression AMC. I missed the first 45 minutes, so I'm glad it's on again early this morning and I'll catch it. I loved what I saw. Walter Brennan as "Stumpy" -- what a hoot. And I always had a crush on Ricky Nelson. I adored it when Dino, Grandpappy Amos, and Teen Hearthrob were singing those two songs. Wonderful moments!

I don't remember if it was Grant Withers or Warren Hymer, but one of them was certainly camping it up in a lot of scenes. I didn't get it either. And you could definitely see a LOT of Evelyn Knapp at the beach..

FG, love those Arnold photos.
I had the supreme pleasure of seeing THE DEVIL AND DANIEL WEBSTER at a little theatre in New Hampshire; almost all of the audience were locals.
During Eddies's final rousing and moving speech to the "jury", everybody (including me) clapped!

I'm slow on the uptake -- you were joking, you knew who the Kid was all along, but you only have eyes for sterling Sterling, right?
Well, I'd like to have the Kid in my life some way. Maybe he could become Duane's valet or something. Or help him change the motor oil.

lol, hmmm, I wonder what that word could be....

I was first drawn to Edward in THE DEVIL AND DANIEL WEBSTER.

The Dancin' Kid, sweet on Vienna, in JOHNNY GUITAR.

Re: Hank Worden: Thank you kindly.

I'd love to have Scott Brady as my best man, but I'm afraid Duane might get upset.
