Never saw PORT SINISTER.
Lucky you with the DVD -- do the Corman crabs talk? Do they say anything significant?
My mom had some things to say about this movie.
-
Mom: "So what are you doing tonight?"
Me: "I'm going to watch THE ATTACK OF THE CRAB MONSTERS
on TCM later."
Mom: "You don't have a date?"
Mom: "What's THAT got to do with it? Even if I did, I'd watch it."
Mom: (sighing): "That's why you're not married."
Me: "Oh, is that the reason?"
Mom: "Well, why are you wasting your time with stupid films?
like that?"
Me: "Stupid films? Giant crabs are stupid?"
Mom: "Oh, this reminds me -- I saw wild salmon at Albertsons.
for $3.99 yesterday."
Me: "What does that have to do with anything?"
Mom: "You were talking about crabs, so I thought about fish".
Me: "Mom, I'm getting off the phone now."
Mom: "Enjoy the movie. Alone".

I'm gonna have to see some of these westerns before I can compete in the big leagues here and make lists.
Here's my list:
STAGECOACH
Okay, I have a lot of catching up to do.
-
You get right back in bed, Missy!
Throw some ginger in that good garlic chicken soup (and the soup will sing "We're in the Money" in pig latin)
I get those compulsions myself. The repetition of household chores is very soothing to me sometimes when I don't feel well.
Is Champagne Miss Goddess your name? Don't open your door if you hear a knock. It just might be Mr. Hyde. A bit of the bubbly (I sound like Bing) won't hurt you, but you sound like you're feeling no pain, lol..
I like Robert Ryan, but his face always scares me -- I know this might sound silly (what else, coming from me) but it reminds me of a mask. He's an underrated actor but there's always something sinister about his appearance
Just READING those SPLENDOR lyrics has me bawling -- as soon as I read your post, I brought out the Kleenex. WAH.
I wonder where Wayne came by that gracefulness. It must have just been natural. Ford may have made him an actor, but the gods gave the Duke his natural charisma and those great moves.
Excuse me, I'm getting out my voodoo doll of Frank right now, and sharpening up the pins!

(sob)
The gods are angry.

Speaking of Bill, I hear he's good in THE WILD BUNCH, which I've never seen. (I know, I'm shamefully deficient in westerns and noir)
Make yourself some chicken soup and drink a lot of liquids.
Go to bed early.
My bill will be in the mail soon.

Too bad....even Schell couldn't save it...
Oh, well, let's get ready for the crab tonight!
-
"Ma'am, if those pigs are on your property, then.....THEM'S YORE HAWGS!"
-
"Bad double posts! Bad double posts!"
There. Now I've appeased the technology gods.
And I'm waiting for Bill Holden to appear on a hill.
(Miss G. will get this)

What I love about Wayne, as your first set of photos show (especially him lighting a cigarette from the lamp) is his physical gracefulness.

Geez, your pungent description of Burl is too delicious. And wasn't he the voice of Frosty the Snowman??
Of course, the pairing of Sophia and Tony can only be a good thing imo, no matter the outcome.

I always try to catch APARTMENT FOR PEGGY when it comes on FMC.
-
Hi, sandy! I just redid it, thanks. I love Diane in this movie!!
-
Okay, this isn't a classic, and it's dated, and the baby never ages, and Sam Shepard is just too-good-to-be-true, BUT, Diane Keaton having a nervous breakdown in snowy Vermont in BABY BOOM is priceless: (finding out how much more repairs to her ramshackle house will be)
"6,000? AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

Lassie.
True, I'd have to go through hardships (trekking through the mud, dealing with unpleasant humans) but eventually I'd find my way home to people who loved me, and I'd spend most of my days nestled contendedly by the hearth surrounded by friends and family in some quaint Scottish village, occasionally doing heroic deeds like rescuing neighbors who fall down wells.

I'm looking forward to it, but I am wrong in thinking that Burl Ives might be giving one of those "Big Daddy" type performances?
-
Fred, I couldn't agree with you more about things looking a lot like Pottersville in America these days
I've never seen AH, WILDNERNESS but would like to.
-
As you and I know, things are VERY expensive here in Boca!
-
Well, too bad, FG, hugs are my forte and I intend to continue delivering them, so there! I don't mean to come across as a discombobulator, lol.
Lubitsch was my intro to Jimmy Stewart, in THE SHOP AROUND THE CORNER.. I was astounded that someone so American could be totally convincing as a Hungarian store clerk. Granted, the story itself is timeless, but it IS rooted in locale, so I was really impressed. I love this movie, it's one of my all time favorites.
Mary Beth Hughes is underrated, imo, as a femme fatale. She was impressive in her short screen time in THE OX-BOW INCIDENT.

I enjoyed WILD BOYS OF THE ROAD; it had an almost improvisional air about it, and there seemed to be "in-jokes" -- the Cagney film at the theatre (which one was it?) Coonan doing a little dance; popular tunes from Warner's musicals used ironically ("We're In The Money"). Vivid pre-code (prostitution, dismemberment, rape) has a fresh feel to it, despite the hokey moralistic ending with that too-good-to-be-true Judge delivering the New Deal social message. (Not that I necessarily wanted the kids skulking in alleyways a la I WAS A FUGITIVE FROM A CHAIN GANG, but, something a bit more ambiguous than the implied happy ending)
I've always thought THE OX-BOW INCIDENT one of the greatest American films. And if this isn't Wellman's best, I don't know what is.

I'm very happy you posted this.
The only Antonioni film I've seen is BLOW-UP, and that's already on my Greatest Films list.
So you can imagine how eager I am to see his other work.

I can't be a vampire. Vampires don't have mothers who drive them crazy.
