He had some good parts before, but I think the beginning of the legend is indeed HIGH SIERRA (1941)... also with IDA LUPINO.
I'm particularly fond of THE RETURN OF DR. X, lol.

Yes, HUMPHREY BOGART just before stardom... good flick.
And I always thought Bogie's "break-out" role was Duke Mantee in THE PETRIFIED FOREST but unfortunately he had to wait a few more years until his triumph in HIGH SIERRA.

What I love about Ann Sheridan was her ability to do comedy and drama. Kings Row, Torrid Zone, They Drive By Night, she was great in these dramas. I Was A Male War Bride and The Man Who Came To Dinner, she was so funny in these. She could be tough and she could vulnerable. Excellent range and always a pleasure to watch.
Perfectly stated, lavender!

I always get the urge to immediately eat certain foods when they're presented or talked about in movies -- strawberries and vanilla ice cream from THE CAINE MUTINY, the mouth-watering Budapest Christmas dinner lucky Rudy will get to enjoy courtesy of lonely Frank Morgan in THE SHOP AROUND THE CORNER, et. al.

I love ANN SHERIDAN in anything!
Moi aussi.
Have you seen her in THEY DRIVE BY NIGHT? (her character's name is Cassie btw, lol) Sweet, sassy, supportive. No wonder George Raft as Joe Fabrini falls head-over-heels with "that cheap redhead" (as neurotically jealous Lana Carlson -- Ida Lupino -- calls her)

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!
A real tragedy what happens to Betty as Cassandra in KINGS ROW but it could have been even worse -- she might've actually wound up marrying Parris Mitchell. At least, as played by Robert Cummings.....eeek, lol.

I remember reading a quote from Ann Sheridan: "I wanted the role of Randy Monahan so bad my teeth ached"
She's wonderful in the part. I've always considered her an underrated actress. Delicious and funny in THE MAN WHO CAME TO DINNER.

"And after all is said and done, to think that I'm the only one....."
Blech!
I did like the way they tried to make Willie and May's romance a steamy affair a la Deborah Kerr and Burt Lancaster in FHTE. You know, grown-up, real adult, lol. And it was -- there was no ambiguity, these two were sleeping together.
After Bogie I thought the finest performance was Van's. A truly underrated and versatile performer. I'm normally impressed with Jose Ferrer as an actor but thought he was over-the-top as Barney, even when drunk. I liked Robert Francis. I could envision John Ford wanting him as part of his stock company.

Should have been in black and white, and with Steiner's score considerably scaled down.

Someone mentioned PICNIC. And Betty Field is in that movie too. She seemed to excel in these kinds of "small town" stories.
Surprised she didn't make it into OUR TOWN.
Interesting that Betty Field is not only in PEYTON PLACE but its precursor, KINGS ROW!

I was waiting for Alicia Malone and Eddie Muller to reference KING'S ROW during their intro or outro to PEYTON PLACE this evening but they never did.

Thank you, Lawrence!
(I love Buster)

Okay, I just found my PM and Notification icons.
It says I can't post new messages because the box is full.
Please tell me how to delete.

Click on your user name (in the upper right corner of the screen), then click on "account settings" then click on "notification settings" (on the right of the screen). Then make sure "Someone quotes a comment or post I made" is checked, or anything else you want checked off. Apparently some things are automatically disabled by the administrator for some reason.
Can't find anything at the right hand corner of my screen.

Ah, Hibi, thank you so much! I was racking my brain!

I wish I could remember the title of a movie that I always confuse with MR. BUDDWING. I can't even recall the actor or anyone else in the cast. Guy is suffering from some form of amnesia; there are flashbacks of him going down stairs during a power outage....he's having an argument with his boss near a window....

Ditto going up the stairs to see Hizzoner for the last time, with those shadows on the wall (Ford never abandoned his silent movie roots).....sob!

Maybe it is inadvertently disabled in her user dashboard settings? I see a link at the bottom of the Inbox screen that says "disable my messenger".
I'm confused, lol.
(is your avatar the character actor Ed Brophy? I love him in THE LAST HURRAH)

Hello
Can you try another browser and see what happens? It could be an issue with Edge, as we see nothing on our end that should be causing this.
Thanks!
Hi -- okay I'll try. When it comes to tech stuff I'm very clueless.....

Happy Valentine's Day!
