  1. You're welcome, CaveGirl! I was really looking forward to BLACK MAGIC but unfortunately fell asleep about a half hour in -- not because of the movie. I was just tired from a plethora of morning errands. Drat! I saw TWO ON A GUILLOTINE for the first time a year or so ago and really enjoyed the copycat William Castle charm, so couldn't resist it again the other day. I just love that Max Steiner gives the rabbit his/her own theme song! This time around I caught director Bill Conrad doing a "Hitchcock" cameo at the amusement park.
  2. I'm going to say this in a very small voice, but -- VERTIGO. Yes. The minute Jimmy gets in his car and starts tailing "Madeline", I invariably drift off into the arms of Morpheus.
  3. You haven't! Yes, please keep us updated. I'm getting ready for BLACK MAGIC and TWO ON A GUILLOTINE this afternoon. Happy Friday the 13th, everyone!
  4. This must be so frustrating for you. I'm not sure what else to suggest. Assuming you're in good physical health, perhaps some therapy to get at the root of maybe a childhood trauma or phobia? Hope I'm not being too personal.
  5. Lorna, Lee played another foreman in an earlier serial, 1934's THE VANISHING SHADOW, according to Wiki.
  6. LOL!!! You're right!!! And I've seen that specific puss in 12 ANGRY MEN. "Kids today! You work and you slave and look how they turn out!" It's stated in Wiki that he has an uncredited role as "Road Crew Foreman" and that there is "archived footage" whatever that is.
  7. Wait a minute! What about the My Pillow infomercial guy?
  8. I don't remember the book too well but can tell you that Lee is wonderfully loathsome as the dissolute father.
  9. I was checking his filmography too, and it said he had an unbilled role in a 1939 Bela Lugosi serial, THE PHANTOM CREEPS. This must have been just before GOLDEN BOY, lol.
  10. Ah, we have great taste! I had never realized just how versatile David Wayne was -- from the sophisticated "artsy" neighbor in ADAM'S RIB to the twisted title character in the 1951 M to a Bowery bum in O. HENRY'S FULL HOUSE, on and on. Terrific actor. Yes! ANNA AND THE KING OF SIAM. Another "sedate" Cobb role my Baby Boomer brain has played havoc with, lol. First time I saw it I couldn't quite wrap my mind around Lee in full body make-up. Although playing another race didn't seem to sate Rex Harrison's hammy tendencies, even though that part did call for a certain bombastic, "royal" performance.
  11. So sorry. I'm not necessarily against medication but I wonder, as I mentioned previously, if exercise would help. Not saying to spend intense hours at a gym or anything like that but perhaps just walking an extra mile or two throughout your day so that energy would be expended and then you could crawl into bed at night with the lights out and hopefully zero noise and immediately fall asleep.
  12. I know Joanne won an Oscar but for me David Wayne as her **** husband takes the acting honors in this movie. "He said you weren't really sick, it's just this multiplyin' thing...."
  13. Do you suffer from insomnia? So sorry if this is the case. Would exercise throughout the day help? Or you could just keep QVC on in the background. 24/7 of those hosts and cheesy product presentations would surely knock you out good!
  14. One would think so but a cup of hot cocoa before bed always puts me to sleep in no time, even if I make it with water and not milk.
  15. Thanks -- This makes the most sense to me.
  16. You're right! I forgot about that one. Eve Black flirted up a storm with Dr. Luther but all he told her was "That won't work, I'm a doctor...."
  17. Serious question here in order to give Eddie the benefit of the doubt and re-evaluate him in my own mind -- I'm now thinking, does he really pick all these movies or is it done by "noir committee" and Muller just given "mouthpiece" status introducing and "reviewing" them?
  18. Is Rockstar the one that's even stronger than Red Bull? Egad! On the other hand I thought Cyd and Bob needed energy drinks in this movie. Taylor's wooden-ness, however, works to good effect in THE NIGHTWALKER. Ditto JOHNNY EAGER but much less so in THE CONSPIRATORS. The only films I've seen Lee even remotely relaxed are THE MAN WHO CHEATED HIMSELF and THE EXORCIST.
  19. I've read that drinking cocoa every night not only lowers high blood pressure but keeps one's skin glowing and young! I would have liked to see Cyd or Bob offer a cup to Lee J. Cobb. Gangsters need comfort too.
  20. The most unbelievable thing about PARTY GIRL was Cyd offering Bob a cup of cocoa. And she actually started making it until that unfortunate incident occurred. I always felt Taylor had a decidedly sinister cast to his face as he aged, much like Ray Milland.
  21. Oops, I didn't realize before posting that people had and were commenting on THE MAN WHO CHEATED HIMSELF.
  22. What did everyone think of THE MAN WHO CHEATED HIMSELF? I noticed that Lee had trouble lighting his cigarettes. Was that intentional, as in DOUBLE INDEMNITY? John Dall as Cobb's younger, dogged detective brother....oookaay, lol. I didn't find him especially believable for any number of reasons. The proto-VERTIGO San Francisco locations were the best thing about this movie in my opinion. Otherwise, meh!
  23. Felt a bit more kindly disposed towards Eddie Muller after listening to the segment where he talks about his father, how he thinks about him every day and how grateful he is to be living the life he has now, his voice cracking at the end.
