Happy Thanksgiving to all my TCM friends. Molo, thank you so much. Have a blessed holiday. I visited Mom earlier today and she is now enjoying turkey dinner with all the trimmings at her assisted living facility. SansFin, love your turkey photos, lol. Hope you had a good meal!

Ha! I've never seen TRANSFORMERS but you're right, Ro, anything can set us off. CLAUDIA is on YouTube (with Portuguese subtitles however, lol) if you care to check it out. I suspect you might be driven crazy by the character of Claudia, though, since she is somewhat of a ditz as a "child-bride" who "doesn't know what it's all about" (1940's term for sexual experience) Robert Young as hubby David carries around his pipe so often I always assume he takes it into bed with him. Now that might be cause for divorce.

Thanks so much, my friend. I will try to be present and focused and calm. I certainly do not want mom to know how much I'm worrying. I like that saying, lol. A few weeks ago I was in one of my more anxious moods and absent-mindedly turned on Fox Movie Channel. At that particular moment they were running CLAUDIA -- the scene near the end where she learns the devastating truth about a family member. (I won't be more specific in case somebody hasn't seen this wonderful movie. They made a sequel, CLAUDIA AND DAVID) Her more wordly-wise husband gently encourages her to be friends with the pain and Claudia eventually acknowledges that the only certain thing in life is uncertainty. David replies, "Oh my darling if you've learned that, you've learned a lot". I got a lot of comfort from this scene and really believe I was "meant" to watch it instead of automatically putting on TCM which I would normally do first.

I just hope I can keep it up! I'm sure there will be times when I fall back into my usual self-pity and despair, but do believe those old knee-jerk reactions will eventually fall by the wayside. As you know I'm always worried about Mom and pray that when things take their eventual turn for the worse I'll be able to deal with it and not come apart.

Lafitte, THANK YOU MATEY!! Pizza is one of my FAVORITE foods, birthdays especially!! I love tiramisu for dessert! I just ate the entire meal -- it's gone! Ah yes, I do remember our pizza rambles and San Diego's Bronx Pizza. Great to know it's still there. Boy you're lucky -- living in San Diego and with great restaurants too. For further celebration I did watch my favorite London double-decker bus tour on YouTube. It never fails to transport me! You'll love it!

Molo, absolutely no reason to feel bad! (Lon, Jr. is always the one with the problems) I love your panel, lol! Slip and Sach have probably never ever read a book, much less one with "Mediterranean Villas" (fantastic touch!) THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Joni Webb is the originator, and not only showcases fabulous French decor from all over the country, but her own since she is herself an interior designer. Southern women really have an appreciation for antiques and the European style. (that's why I also subscribe to Veranda magazine - can't live without it!)

Thanks, twinnie! My girlfriend knows that Mexican cuisine is high on my favorite foods list, but since I have a big list, lol, it was a lovely surprise. The margaritas really hit the spot. Her chocolate cake was delish, and we of course topped it with the chocolate Haagen Daz. Talk about decadent! I've decided that Life is all about attitude, so I'm now fully prepared to meet it head-on, with humility, a grateful heart, faith, and my own weird sense of humor.

Yeah, I did eat last night. Went to a Mexican restaurant (couldn't stop thinking of the Aztec mummies) and enjoyed chicken enchiladas, a pile of tortilla chips with four different salsas, and several margaritas. For dessert my girlfriend made me a chocolate cake and we also had Haagen Das ice cream (chocolate, what else?) along with it.

Hey as a cowgirl wannabe from my youth (I used to watch Spin and Marty) I always wanted to be surrounded by tumbleweeds and prairie dogs! I'm feeling a bit down in the dumps. Perhaps it's that Hunter's Moon this weekend. Sans, I've never used dill on sour cream with the borscht, but have had it on salmon platters in delis. It really does brighten the flavor of those particular dishes. Ro, I'm sort of a purist as well when it comes to my monsters, lol. I think the only "unadulterated" creature was maybe the Mummy, who didn't mingle with Dracula, Frankie, or poor Larry Talbot. At least not that I can remember. Molo, enjoy the Frankensteins! I've always been partial to GOF probably because it played so often when I was a kidlet. Some interesting camera angles in that one too. I think I mentioned before that a friend of mine had a theory that this movie was actually about Nazi Germany, with sinister, conniving Ygor as Hitler ("We would rule the state!"). A "gas" chamber of sorts plays a rather prominent role, although it's supposed to be sulphur. Food for thought, or just plain hooey, lol? I'm in the mood for pizza tonight, along with french fries. Well as you all know by now, Matthew has skedaddled out of here. I've got lots of tuna, Wheat Thins, Stella D'Oro Breakfast Treats and bottled water. Hurricane season ends November 30th so South Florida is not quite out of the woods yet.

Poor Dwight Frye in these seqels, reduced to playing a torch-bearing villager with lines like "We'll storm the castle!" Hi, Lafitte! Yeah, these debates are horrors in their own right. To tell the truth, the two of them don't float my boat. I'd hate to vote on the basis of the lesser of two evils or anything like that. It's a conundrum....and certainly the most surreal election cycle I've ever experienced. Hello, SansFin! I love borscht but have no skills in making it from scratch. Instead, I just buy the bottled kind at my local supermarket, and enjoy it with a dollop of sour cream. So delicious!

Boca Raton dodged the bullet!! Some wind gusts, a bit of rain, and that's it. No power outages. Now that Matthew is kaput, I can concentrate on the Frankenstein movies tomorrow.

Mom will be safe and secure in her Deerfield Beach assisted living facility. They take good care of their residents in all kinds of emergency situations. We here in Boca are hunkering down, preparing for the worst but hoping for the best. Matthew is getting closer and closer. This sucker is a Cat 4 hurricane. I'm just praying the power outages are minimal and that I can access my computer over the week-end. But as of now things look ominous....

Thank you Ma! I'm hoping this sucker will veer off into the sea and leave us, the Carolinas, and all of our other Southeastern coastal neighbors alone, but for now that doesn't seem to be the case. Off to the supermarket shortly to stock up. I'm certain it will be a madhouse, with all the bottled water, tuna fish, saltines, batteries and flashlights flying off the shelves. Here in South Florida we're bracing for a visit from Hurricane Matthew. Too bad it's not Montgomery Clift. Severe power outages will probably result, so if you don't hear from me......

Hey, Ro, I know what you mean about peppers, lol. The older I get the more they don't love me, and that includes garlic, tomatoes, and coffee. I've never had the Chicken Scampi at Olive Garden but do love their breadsticks. I used to love Shrimp Scampi (or Shrimp Anything) but now all shrimp, with their little black eyes and embryo bodies, just gross me out. One line I always remember Walter saying from MY DARLING CLEMENTINE is "Cover your brother". Such family feeling, lol. Oh, gosh, we DID (or rather, the rest of you; I just chimed in for about half a second) cover RED RIVER! Thanks so much for digging those great golden rambles up -- yes, wonderful to read again. I think you and I agree about those "motivational" problems in the characters, notably Dunson. His "I'm going to kill you, Matt" has about as much believability as a certain orange person running for President.

Hey, Quiet Gal, thrilled you had a wonderful birthday and that the weather cooperated! What did you eat at Olive Garden? (haven't been there in some time -- it's always hideously crowded in my area and the wait drives me crazy) Oh my gosh I know just what you mean about Walter in MY DARLING CLEMENTINE. He is very, very frightening. I also definitely get chills from that performance! Can you tell me some of the problems you have with RED RIVER? As much as I love it, I have a few myself, lol.
