Oh, you're so welcome, birthday gal! I just took a CHANCE (Sheriff John T., lol) you might like it ha! Ah yes, dear old Stumpy -- Walter Brennan, three-time Best Supporting Oscar, a great actor and much more versatile than I think he was given credit for. As you know, I'm not a Western movie expert, but I do have my favorites. RIO BRAVO is one of them. My number one Hawks film in this genre is RED RIVER. (can't stop looking at Monty and I have a perverse attraction to John Ireland as Cherry Valance) Enjoy your special day! Blessings! (and good eats!)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, RO! Wishing you good times with old friends.. !

lafitte, mon ami, all I can say right now for your generous complimentary spirit towards me is that it's September 19th, Talk Like A Pirate Day (really!) !

kingrat, it's great to see your name again! I always associate you with erudite, incisive, supremely well-informed film commentary. Thanks for the kind words. Mom of course isn't as outspoken as she used to be, given the fact she's slowed down considerably at 95 years old, but I hope to have many more crazy Burns & Allen conversations with her on my thread, lol. I miss writing about the turkeys. And THE BRAMBLE BUSH definitely sounds right up my alley, ha! Never saw it, and thanks to you I must!! I somehow always confuse the descriptions of Burton's character in that movie with the one he plays in THE SANDPIPER., where he confesses to wife Eva Maria Saint of his affair with Liz: "We made love in motels, God help me!" I recommend the wonderfully awful THE RAINS OF RANCHIPUR where Richard, replete with turban as a dedicated Indian doctor, is the object of wealthy playgirl Lana Turner's lust. Everyone in the cast acts as though they are struggling against bouts of dysentery. Haven't seen it in some time. I do remember one scene where Lana, caught in "the rains", comes down with pneumonia and starts babbling "I'm richer than everyone!" On an entirely different note, I'm obsessed with Freaky the Scary Snowman videos on YouTube.

Scott, you'll be just fine! In the meantime, find a pair of ruby red slippers, tap them ever so gently, and intone "There's no place like the TCM Message Board! There's no place like the TCM Message Board!" You'll be home here in no time.

lafitte - hello, matey! How wonderful to see you! Thanks for the kind words. I miss the Ramblers, too. All of us go through peaks and valleys but isn't it nice to know we still value our friendships here. Life Happens (gee, how banal of me, lol) but our gang will always survive and thrive. I was thinking myself of giving the Bronxie Mom thread a little "boost" as it were, a revival of sorts. You know how much I love those city tours, lol, thank you, me hearty! The London double-decker virtual bus tour is (hopefully) still on my thread. Feel free to post others! Thanks, Mom is doing as well as can be expected. At 95, she's not as sharp as she once was but occasionally she'll be clear as a bell and razor-sharp. She was having trouble with the remote control as I was on the phone to her and she said "I don't see Nathan Detroit or Sky Masterson!" GUYS AND DOLLS was playing but she had on some used car commercial. When Mom finally was able to get TCM back she was thrilled. "Oh, look! I didn't know Marlon Brando could sing!"

Hey, Ro, re: technophobia, I don't even have a smartphone -- still using the old flip-top model. That's how behind the times I am. And talking about Bible stories, I saw LILITH for the first time last night and can't get it out of my mind. (mercifully THE ART OF LOVE, which I had never heard of and also caught, vanished like a bad dream within a nanosecond of viewing) Religious/theological metaphors and mythological archetypes swirled around like resurrected autumn leaves in LILITH, with Jean Seberg giving a fascinating performance. I always have a problem with Warren Beatty, however, lol. Never sure if his acting is some genius form of minimilism, or just plain wooden. ! ! -

!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jRwsTyUPIYE! SansFin, those pysankys are exquisite! (I hope I used the correct term for the Ukranian dyed eggs) Have a wonderful, blessed Easter. Molo, sweet friend, blessings and peace to you this Easter. Mom is looking pretty darned good for 95. I brought her chocolate cake and a little Parisian-inspired jeweled box where she can store letters, vitamins, or any keepsakes. The staff put up a Happy Birthday balloon in her room. In lieu of champagne, we celebrated with ginger ale. All in all, a fine time was had. I gave her yours and Ro's love. She was puzzled at first: "How do you talk to them?" I had to explain that the internet is a wondrous thing, keeping us all connected. I'll definitely watch a Blondie movie or two on YouTube! In the comic, I was always waiting for Dagwood to tell Mr. Dithers where to, er, go, lol. Ro, I was so upset last night -- I didn't realize that ABC ran THE TEN COMMANDMENTS on Saturday instead of Easter Sunday, so missed about two hours, but I caught the scene with Moses, Sephora, and her steely eyes. When Yvonne de Carlo held onto her staff and looked into the camera just as you described, I literally burst out laughing! And all the compare/contrast speeches by her and Nefertiri -- "Our women do not have pomegranate lips, but they speak the truth" "Your new friends think love is an amusement, yet to us, it is everything", etc.. I missed the boy mannequin! Too much coffee, if you know what I mean, and when I returned, it was over. -

Oh my gosh, Ro, lol, love, love, LOVE your delicious recap with the accompanying photos. I swear I've seen some of that costuming from shopping channel QVC's tacky G.I.L.I. (stands for Got It Love It) women's clothing line. They also shill a boatload of gladiator shoes, garish statement necklaces, and other accessories that would not have looked out of place 5,000 years ago. I guess that's what they think is timeless fashion. I do remember that Yul looked so........fine, lol. Yes, yes, yes, whatta hunka Pharoah! He was always "posing" in that King of Siam way which accentuated the manliness of his chest, biceps, and thighs, if I can use that last word in connection with The Greatest Story Ever Told, lol. Of course, leave it to Cecil B. DeMille to ramp up the sexuality in a Bible story, although compared to some of those other early Hollywood offerings, TTC seemed mild to my memory in terms of violence, sadism (animals tearing the faithful apart in the arena), decadence, etc. I also remember Cecil seemed to dwell on the salaciousness of virginal Debra Paget being sold into marriage with Edward G. Robinson, definitely a fate worse than death. I can't wait to watch this movie again if only to see the stone altar mannequin. Will see Mom this Easter -- blessings again to you! -

"Oh, Moses, Moses, you mad, impetuous fool!" At least, Ro, that's the way I remember Anne Baxter saying this to Charleton Heston, lol. (not when I originally saw it, of course, but years later on the old tee-vee) I wish you could keep the kidteen forever young, but she's still got quite a ways to go before adulthood hits her (and you) smack dab in the kisser. So how was TTC on the big screen? Still fun I hope! Did you close your eyes when the Angel of Death came a-callin'? I love Clark Gable in SAN FRANCISCO. I think it's actually one of his sexiest roles, and he doesn't even have to remove an item of clothing. Mom is coming along, thank you. She will probably spend her birthday in rehab until being discharged hopefully sometime next week. I want to wish you, your family, and everybody at TCM a blessed Easter. -

Hey, Ro! I bought green buttercream frosted cupcakes and actually found a small box of Lucky Charms (part of a varietal cereal pack) to celebrate St. Patty's Day. (unfortunately, they weren't as magically delicious like back in the day, lol, everything tasted better back then) Hope you and the family had a fun time! Mom is doing better, thanks. She's being discharged from the hospital and will be transferred to a rehab center for a few days before returning home to her apartment at the assisted living center. Molo, I used to read the Blondie comic strip and felt so sorry for Dagwood, lol, what with Mr. Dithers always breathing down his neck. Then I remember those "Dagwood" sandwiches (yum!). I looked on YouTube and they have quite a few of the movies -- never knew there were so many! Will definitely check them out. I don't normally bring up politics either. I'd been browsing Trump videos just for my own personal curiosity, not of course to share here, before posting the Jerry Lewis as agent 007 one, then remember seeing The Donald as a James Bond villain, lol and decided to put it up. I've stopped watching the cable news networks, it's just getting to be too much. THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE, one of the greats, ha! (Wasn't 1936's SAN FRANCISCO the first disaster movie?) Frankly I've never been a fan of this genre except for the snark value, although you've got to admit Irwin Allen certainly knew how to exploit the trend. But I was hitting my 30's when these were the rage so they (including STAR WARS) didn't really feel like anything special for me. (yes, I'm a Baby Boomer) I was living in Los Angeles when CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND came out, and I did cry at the ending, so I guess I'm redeemed! I'm, er, a bit older than you two (not put together) and remember seeing THE TEN COMMANDMENTS with my mother at our local movie theatre. You understand I was just Baby Dumpling myself. (no, really!) I was positively traumatized by the Angel of Death. When I saw DARBY O'GILL AND THE LITTLE PEOPLE later on it brought back all the terror, yikes! -

Hey, there molo! I love how you bonded with your mom travelling the world. Unfortunately the closest I'll come to Capri for the time being are an endless series of capri pants they keep shilling on QVC. You've got such great memories that will never be erased. Would you believe I've never seen a Blondie movie? But you can't do better than Charlie Chan along with Bud and Lou for getting one through tough times. I was once referred to as Gracie Allen by a boss who thought I was kind of ditzy back in the day. This was such an insult I almost quit. But during these past few years, like you, I've become the straight man to my mother. Ah yes, Chuckles the Clown, lol, you are most welcome. And talk about a buffoonish election season, geesh......(sad, too) I guess the American people are feeling that seltzer down their collective pants. (capri for the summer months) Thank for you for mom's birthday wishes. She's back in the hospital again with that pesky leg infection. They've been pumping her with antibiotics, and trying to drain the fluid. Her vital signs are good, thank heavens, but I just take it day by day. So it goes.... As this is also the Mother Molo thread, please view it as "home base" for future reportage of dear Margaret. -

molo, I would like to think that the singer was the same one your mom heard when she was a girl. I'll bet he was because the year seems about right. Mother Molo is a star in her own right on this thread! She will always live on here. Continue to grace us with memories -- wacky, sad, weird, funny, sentimental -- any time. A little song, a little dance, a little seltzer down the pants. -

Thank you kindly, my twinnie. Blessings back at you and the family. ! Beautiful New Year's postings, molo. Love and prayers for you and mom. Naturally I'm watching the TZ marathon on Syfy Channel. This is interspersed with me trying to pick up a dust rag and vacuum in order to do a little cleaning but so far, it ain't happening, lol.
