>You have a great memory! I don't know how you do it!>
But I still have trouble finding my keys or remembering to drop a letter off even when I'm walking straight toward the mailbox.
>I was disappointed in this one.>
Can you elaborate? Are The Andrews Sisters a deciding factor, lol?
>Is that tune rather snippy? For some reason, it seems like it would be.
But I'm definitely going to have to check this one out since you mentioned it as one of your favorites.>Snippy?? (you like that word, don't you, lol?) NO!!! It's so dreamy and mellow...
>The Time of Their Lives sounds very offbeat for them. That would be a test for me.>
I'd be very interested to know what you think of it. It's got some charm, which one never associates with A&C, ha!
>That's the A&C I used to like as a kid. I haven't seen it since then, so I'm curious to see how it plays now that I'm older.>
Marie Windsor plays a femme fatale, and I know how much you enjoy an "ancient Egypt" setting.
I'm going to watch IVY tonight on YouTube, in memory of Joan Fontaine.

I broke down and went to Longhorn's Steakhouse last night (filet mignon). My arteries are hardening as I type, but, it was worth it!
-
I'm taking your medical advice immediately to, er, heart, Sans, lol, and ordering several ballotins of dark Godiva chocolate from Macy's. A few will be gifts, or so I tell myself.
I'm out of sorts today -- watched TCM Underground last night -- BLUE SUNSHINE -- and now I have waking nightmares that bald psychotic ex-hippies are coming after me.
Also, I've just been told by our condo association manager to be on the lookout for renegade RATS, who are apparently scuttling into our laundry rooms and patios for no apparent reason. "Close your sliders!"
I really do think it's the end of the world here in South Florida.

I'm waiting for the squid....

>Why on earth are you trying to go meatless?>
I'm trying to get my cholesterol down in a hurry before my annual physical in January, lol. Taking statins is not something I want to do, so after Thanksgiving I started eating nothing but Irish oatmeal, tofu, chocolate soy milk, fruit, and veggies. Who knows if this will help....
Back to REAP GONE WITH THE WIND.

Poor turkeys....I'd like to rescue them, Miss G., from our voracious yearly dinner tables.
I'd probably drive Sven crazy, lol. He wouldn't have to run A&C MEET FRANKENSTEIN; I'd recite the entire script in front of the camera.
Someone just said "Fiddle-dee-dee!" in REAP THE WILD WIND.
DeMille was so subtle.

Thanks, SueSue! Hope you had a fabulous holiday too!
Those vintage dinners sound so mouth-watering, don't they? I want to go back in time and eat like that! Carbs be damned!

Can't even get the strip to show up, sorry....
-
That picture of Kurt is a scream, Jackie!
I just found the one I was talking about on this picture strip, but can't enlarge it -- it's second from the bottom; he's with Ralph and Leslie:

Actually, I'm desperately trying to go meatless in general, so maybe next year I'll have a bowl or two of Count Chocula cereal (if I can find it anywhere) and call that Thanksgiving dinner!

>There is no discernible Walsh to the unholy mess, Glory Alley, which, when I started looking for the movie on IMDB turns out to mean a naughty place in the human anatomy. That seems quite fitting for this pile of ....well, trash, that came out of said alley, to put it nicely. I don't know whether Walsh knew of this slang term or not, but it wouldn't surprise me. It's definitely the worst Walsh movie I can remember seeing, with little to recommend it. It seems to be a one off for Walsh, thank goodness!>
Ha!! I always love those New Orleans jazz processions, though. There's a funny photo of Kurt Kasznar from this movie, but I've been having trouble posting it.
Sans, I'm never going to eat turkey again, lol.

Drat, I missed the TCM showing of ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEET CAPTAIN KIDD. Major tragedy, I know, lol.
I never realized just how often Edward G. Robinson snarled "Yeah!" in all those '30's gangster vehicles. I guess it was his "signature" before audiences found out he was a truly great, versatile character actor, much the same way James Cagney was always "required" to punch someone in the kisser.
And it's interesting that both men had hard-hitting, glorious tough-guy send-offs to their screen criminal personas, both a year apart -- Eddie in 1948's KEY LARGO and Jimmy in the 1949 WHITE HEAT.

Your turkey sounds intriguing. Did the limes impart a Latin or Caribbean flavor?
That poor guest, lol. I wonder what her reactions were to ROSEMARY'S BABY, VILLAGE OF THE DAMNED, and DEMON SEED.
-
LOL, love, love, love that British humor!
-
Thank you, Lynn! Hope you and your family are enjoying a fabulous holiday. Mom and I are waddling around, carb-loaded to the gills.
I love that mid-century modern dining room. Ah, yes, I miss that era so much....

WHAT PRICE GLORY ALLEY
It just didn't seem like a typical Raoul Walsh movie. (although I'm no expert on his work) A real "man's man" director, rough and tumble, gruffly tender underneath I suppose. I'm thinking of WHITE HEAT, HIGH SIERRA, THEY DRIVE BY NIGHT, etc. What did I get? Corny narration by John McIntire (one of my favorites; unfortunately he wasn't actually IN this thing), Leslie Caron out of her depth, and Kurt Kaszner looking like something from a Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoon. I'm a Ralph Meeker fan, and was embarrassed for him here. But I did enjoy Louis Armstrong's rendition of the title song, lol.
I'll have to take another look at MAISIE WAS A LADY, since it's a favorite of some of you. I'm definitely a fan of Ann, Maureen, and Lew.
Hope everyone has a wonderful Turkey Day tomorrow. I opted for another fowl this year, and got myself to the store today in time to purchase what seemed to be the last chicken in Boca Raton:

Jackie, there's nothing like some A&C to pick one up. The casual sadism with which Bud treats Lou basically forms the basis of their relationship, lol, along with the endless variations on tried-and-true vaudeville routines. The t.v. show is actually funnier than the films.
By the way, did anyone finish watching GLORY ALLEY? I just couldn't. Might this possibly be Raoul Walsh's worst film? What was up with Ralph Meeker's ridiculous name, "Socks Barbarossa?" Every character seemed compelled to repeat it every five minutes, whether speaking to him or not. Only Gilbert Roland seemed immune from the silliness. All he does is stride confidently through a restaurant, jacket effortlessly slung over his shoulder, and with his natural charisma and vintage star magnetism instantly elevates the mise en scene, lol. Don't know if later on he actually had to say "Socks" -- that would have taken away a little of the charm.
I caught a smidgeon of MAISIE WAS A LADY. What the heck was she doing working as a maid? Frankly I was embarrassed for her.

>Goodness, B-Girl, you know your A&C's! I grew up watching their movies on TV and they all run together in my mind. The one about Jack and the Bean Stalk, Buck Privates and the monster ones are where I remember them best.>
Lots of Bud and Lou on YouTube, Miss G., including their t.v. show, which I also loved. Mike the Cop, Stinky, Mr. Fields....
If you haven't seen THE TIME OF THEIR LIVES, I recommend it.

I think I left out a few -- MEET THE INVISIBLE MAN, which I haven't seen in years but this one might be the best of their '50's comedy-horror vehicles from what I remember. Karloff plays the title role(s) in MEET DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE but I can't recall much of what goes on, except that the Hyde make-up is kind of scary, even though it really looks like a mask, lol. Craig Stevens (sigh...) is always good to look at. BUCK PRIVATES is their wartime best (great routines); there's an urchin in BUCK PRIVATES COME HOME, which never sits well with me. KEEP 'EM FLYING has Martha Raye, I think, as twins who drive Lou crazy, lol. Other than that, it didn't stand out for me that much. I'm sure The Andrews Sisters are around. IN SOCIETY (Bud and Lou "crash" high society as plumbers) seems more Stooges-suited, but it does have the hilarious Bagel Street and Susquehanna Hat Company routines.
What are your A&C favorites?

HA! All too true for me, Sans....(especially #3)
Frank, I'm so upset -- it seems the Dick Foran "I'll Remember April" segment from RIDE 'EM COWBOY has now vanished from YouTube.
