Movies playing this month that should not be on TCM.....
Kubrickbuff replied to kimpunkrock's topic in General Discussions
I am not happy about Batman Forever airing on TCM not because it's a newer film because I don't have a problem with TCM playing newer films, I like Men in Black and American Beauty and I hope that they play more newer films, I just don't think that Batman Forever is a good movie that's all, I think that the first 2 films by Tim Burton are the only ones that are really good. To be honest with you, I don't have a problem with TCM airing Batman Forever, It doesn't really bother me because why should it? That would be stupid. I just don't think that it's a good movie that's all. Really I am just giving my opinion on the film, it does not bother me that TCM is playing it. -
Any love scene with Ingrid Bergman.

Kate Winslet, do I need to explain why? I think that you could all agree.

Just finished West Side Story, I wrote a paper on it. I love the art direction and I love the way the music numbers are framed, the only problem that I had with the movie was the character development, the characters could have been better thought out, I thought that the love relationship between Tony and Maria was poorly developed, I did not care about the characters as much as I wanted to, my film teacher agreed with me that the filmmakers could have focused on the characters a little more but because it's a musical I guss they wanted to focus more on the music numbers.

I love Rutger Hauer, he was amazing in Blade Runner. Too bad he is only known for cult films which is not a bad thing but I think that he deserves more attention, he deserves an oscar.

Kirsten Dunst is overrated, I don't think that she is that good of an actress that everyone says she is but that's just my opinion. Message was edited by: Kubrickbuff

I had that same thing happen to me once when I was taping Ben Hur.

I love Robert Wise myself, I am watching a lot of his films in my film history class.

I would of liked to see Claire Danes in a silent film, she has interesting eyes.

What is the best recent film you have seen?
Kubrickbuff replied to BlackandWhiteCharm's topic in General Discussions
I saw Brokedown Palce with Claire Danes and I really enjoyed it, Claire Danes rules. -
I have never seen Shaft and I never planned on seeing because it's way too 70s for me, I have nothing against the movies that came out in the 70s but I never cared for the films that represent the 70s like Shaft does, stuff like Charlie's Angels and Super Fly or Foxy Brown, way too 70s and way too corny. Best movies from the 70s were in my opinion Halloween, Rocky, Jaws, A Clockwork Orange, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and The Exorcist

What Classic Films Were Your Biggest Disappointment?
Kubrickbuff replied to newclassicfilmfan's topic in General Discussions
I respect your opinions and your love for classic films, even though I don't agree with you that much, I appreciate your love for those films. -
I don't hate anything, but I never cared for John Wayne as an actor, for director I would say that I don't like Michael Bay or Francis Ford Coppula ( I don't know if I spelled that correctly), movies I don't like, I would say American Pie or Road Trip or any of that stuff. As for genre, I don't judge movies by genre, as long as the movie can make me feel somthing or take me into another world than I like it.

Frank Capra's birthday is in May? I need to get my tapes out for that line up.

What Classic Films Were Your Biggest Disappointment?
Kubrickbuff replied to newclassicfilmfan's topic in General Discussions
To be quite honest I have never been facinated by the so-called classic films, except for Frank Capra, Buster Keaton and a few Hitchcock stuff but other than that I don't find the classic films that interesting, but I know that you all do and I respect your love for the films because I think that passion is important. I think that reason why I don't like a lot of classic films is because black and white are not my two favorite colors, I like red, orange, brown, and blue. Black and White are the two colors that really bore me, but I do like some black and white movies, Frank Capra, Buster Keaton and most of the early Stanley Kubrick stuff was in black and white but most black and white films don't interest me. I am pretty facinated by the movies that came out in the 80s and 90s, I will admit that some of them were bad but most of them I was really blown away by, I think that movies have become more intersting than they were in the 40s, I think we can create more poweful images than we could back in the 30s and 40s simply because we can use more colors than just black and white. I personly find films like Heavenly Creatures, Fargo, Romeo & Juliet, City of Angels, Scream and American Beauty to be more facinating than Citizen Kane or Casablanca or His Girl Friday and I guss I could thank Staley Kubrick for that because he did change film and of course he made films more interesting in my opinion than just placing an actor up against a wall and then just shoot it which I feel that a lot of films like His Girls Friday do. Again, this is just my opinion and I respect all of you and your love for classic films because like I said I think that passion is important no matter what your passion is. -

I like the post too and it is a good start for a topic on the board, I posted one that was very much like his, except mine was really bad. It was a silly question about if you like old films or new films or both which I don't think was that clever Message was edited by: Kubrickbuff -

No, it could not be the masterpiece that A Clockwork Orange is, and maybe I would be really happy if I watched A Clockwork Orange again and again considering how depressing the movie is. -

I don't know if Kubrick was into westerns and I don't think he would have been the right person to direct that film anyway, I wonder if him and John Wayne would have worked well together, maybe not.
