You see, this guy loves a movie from the 80s but somone may not, again what exactly is a classic.
-
In closing, a classic is an opinion not a fact. Classic is such an overrated word now that I think about it. You can say it to me all you want but the idea that a movie is to new to be considered a classic is not fair to say and it is a bunch of bull, some people love it, some people don't.
-
I still think that how old or how new it is has nothing to do with anything. Does a film have to have a good reputation from film critics or film buffs to be considered a classic, I don't think so. I think that the saying that a film is to new to be considered a classic is silly and has nothing to do with anything. Does a film have to be old to be considered a classic, no because there were some movies back them that are not respected either. To me there is no such thing as a classic because we all have opinions, I don't belive in fact. A film does not have to be loved by everyone to be considered a classic because there may be somone who does not like it, so what does that say about the move, to me a movie has to be loved by everyone to be considered a classic but not everyone likes the smae movie and we all have different views on what the film is so to me a classic is opinions, not fact.
-
The whole debate over wether a movie is a classic or not is complicating so I will just end this by saying that we all have opinions, a film that ment a lot to a person is a classic to them, no matter if it's old or new but another person may not like that movie so I don't know man, now that I have thought about this more I have come to think that really there is no such thing as a true classic but maybe I am wrong, I don't know you guys I have thought about this and I just don't know, it's complicated, the world is very complicated so I just don't know.

I think that he is pretty good but that's my opinion. I loved him in City of Angels, Raising Arizona and Adaptation.
-
Once again, how old or how new they are has nothing to do with it (to me at least). To me a classic is an opioion, if a person thinks that it is a classic than it's a classic to them, if it is not a classic to them than it is not a classic to them. To me there is no such thing as a true classic because we all have opinions.

I have only seen parts of Copycat and I guss I did not see that scene. I wish I could help you because I love movie trivia but I don't have an answer, sorry! I need to see that movie again, I did not see it all the way through because it was on television, I think it was TNT, and I must have not had the time to finish watching it because I remember being busy., I will try to rent that movie and get back to you if I find out the answer.

To be honest with you, I don't have a story to how I became a classic film fan. I like all kinds of films, I like old films and new films and that's it. I just love movies, I have loved movies ever since I was a kid, old and new. I don't have a story to how I bacome a classic film fan, I just love movies, old and new, that's my story.

I may be annoying you with this because I won't shut up about it but I am trying to make a point here. I like Batman Returns and Starman and just because you don't like it that does not mean that it's not a classic and that does not mean that TCM should not play it, once again what eactly makes a film a classic?
-
What do you mean don't become AMC be Turner Classic movies, what exctly is supposed to make them be Turner Classic Movies, are you saying that just because they are playing Batman Returns than that does not make them Turner Classic Movies, no offence dirk but that does not make a whole lot of sence to me, are you saying that they should only play what you like in order to truly be Tuner Classic Movies?
-
I am just going to say this again, who are you to say that Starman or Batman Returns are not classics, that's not fair.
-
Hey, what's wrong with showing modern films. Are some of todays films really that bad, don't judge movies by how old or how new they are because that has nothing to do with anything. If you don't like Starman or Batman Returns than that's fine but why exactly do you have to judge TCM for playing some new films, if they don't just play old films than that is bad? Are you saying that they only have to play old films just because they are old and Starman or Batman Returns is not, no offence but that is not very fair and it is silly just to judge these movies just because they are new, what does old or new have to do with anything. Who are you to say that Starman or Batman Returns is a classic, what exactly makes a film a classic, does it have to have a good reputation from critics and film buffs, no! Now, don't get me wrong because I think that His Girl Friday and I may think that it's a classic but somone else may not think so and that does not mean that that person is not a true fan of film and it does not make that person stupid. You may not think that Batman Returns is a classic but someone else might and once again that does not mean that he or she is not a true fan of film. Maybe they see somthing in that film that you don't. We all have different views and opinions and while you may not like Starman, it's not fair to say that it does not deserve to be on TCM, how do you know that? I will end this message by asking what exactly makes a film a classic? No one can say, we all have opinions and that's the way the world works so there is no answer to what makes a film a classic. There could be a lot of films out there that a lot of people don't like but there may be one person who loves it and maybe that film ment a lot to him or her, you don't have to have a paticular taste in films to be a true film fan. We all have different opinions and that's why it's hard to say what exactly makes a film a classic.

My knowlege of film is not that much either, I have seen plenty of films in my life from classic cinema to modern day cinema and movies are my life but for some reason when ever sombody asks me about a movie, you know like information and triva behind the films, my mind is a complete blank, I know nothing about the history of the film I just know that it was an amazing film and it touched me, I like Buster Keaton's movies a lot but I know nothing about the guy and I have been a fan of his work for years, I need to look up information about films a bit more but I love the films so much that I have no need to look up anyhing about it, don't ask me about films, I am a film buff, movies are my life but you need to talk to a film historian like Robert Osborne if you want to know information because he knows it all.

Thanks hlywdkjk, the reason why I asked was because I wasn't sure if I should list them as premeires. A lot of those films were the ones that I chose and it looks like most of them have aired before, well I am glad that I got that out of the way and now I can move on. Thanks again for your help, I greatly appreciate it.
-
By the way, do any of you recall any of Buster Keaton's material ever being presented on TCM, and I mean the early Buster Keaton independent shorts?
-
Thanks for telling me that because for a minute I thought that I had a whole new set of troubles on my hands.

I really enjoyed The High and the Mighty and The Professionals, I didn't stay up for the rest of the films shown because I don't like to stay up late, I need my beauty sleep. Tonight's schedule looks pretty good too, Cover Girl, Funny Face, To Catch a Theif.
-
Does the scedule have to follow a paticular theme, because one person said somthing about birthdays or a paticular holiday, do I have to do a schedule based on one of those paticular themes. For instance, if I wanted to do a schedule on director Stanley Kramer, would it have to be his birthday in order to do the schedule or can I just put it on anyday, can I just do a scedule based on a theme but not have it be a paticular day like a person's birthday?
-
I may be annoying you all with this because I won't shut up about it but this is the first time I have done one of these and I am very excited. I have gotten my schedule almost figured out the only 2 days I am having trouble with are sunday and wednesday, I am having to switch a lot of movies around on those days, I am also having to take some movies off and put different ones in for time issues, but Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday are pretty much done, luckly I did not have to take any movies off on those days because they fit into the scedule perfectly. Now I just have to figure out what month I will put it in, I am sure it will be some time in the summer.
-
Tonight's scedule is really good to and I can't wait.

I personly don't understand the ratings board, they gave Airplane a PG rating and there was plenty of matrial not for children in it. Same with Tootsie, which has the F word in it and it got a PG. I still think that Jaws should have got a R rating or at least PG:13 but there was no PG:13 back then so I guss thay had no other chice than to give it a PG so I don't know what the ratings board thinks is not for younger viewers or not. There are plenty of R rated movies that didn't even have anything wrong in them.
-
I almost have my schedule comoletly figured out and I should be posting it pretty soon, I still need to find out about time restrictions for each film because some of them may be too long to fit into the schedule so it may not be today or next week but pretty soon though.

You got snow? Ah man.

It wasn't just The Grapes of Wrath, there are other ones that he and some other people said had aired and I looked at the detabase and there was no article under a lot of them so I am a bit confused.

You call that a classic?

Batman Returns has good character development but so does His Girl Friday, ok so what makes one of these the classic, I don't get it.
