This is why I am so glad no one ever replys to my posts, either they don't like me or I just said something that doesn't need being replied to. I am so glad that I don't have to worry about getting in fights like this. Both Vertigo and Psycho are great films to me, it's hard to say which one is better because they are both superb.

A Clockwork Orange (1971)
Fargo (1996)
The Godfather (1972)
Taxi Driver (1976)
Barry Lyndon (1975)
Jurassic Park (1993)
Ghostbusters (1984)
American Beauty (1999)
Blade Runner (1982)
Titanic (1997)
...but please don't show Starship Troopers again, I don't know what they were thinking when they decided to air that. Also don't show any movies released in the 2000s like they did last year with The Patriot, don't show stuff like that untill next decade.

Why not, TCM has the right to play whatever they want to play and it's not like they air 1990s movies all the time, in fact I hardly ever see them on TCM so what's wrong? I am not saying that they should play 1990s movies all the time but every once in while isn't bad. TCM plays all kinds of movies for all kinds of people, some people like old movies and some people like new movies and TCM focuses on both kinds of people, there is something in it for everyone. Even if you can already buy most movies from the 90s on DVD, at least you don't have to pay money to own a newer movie, you can just tape in off TCM for free and you get it uncut, commercial free and also in the original aspect ratio, you get the movie for free. I do think that TCM should stick to the classics though and only play movies from the 90s every once in a while, not all the time. Some old movies have become classics and are well known around the world and some have been forgotten and some new movies have become classics and I would say that most have been forgotten, I would say that the 1990s was the last golden age of cinema, some movies today though I can consider becoming classics like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Lost in Translation, they are not classics now but wait another 10 years and I think that they will still be rememered and will be classics just like Jerry Maquire, Titanic and American Beauty are rememberd now, all of these are great films I think. You know I don't care for movies from the 30s and 40s, my taste in movies are from the 50s all the way up to the 90s and I watch TCM for the films of the 50s like Harvey and Rear Window and The Bridge on the River Quai.

Most of his movies are being re-realeased but not Lolita. I only saw 2001, A Clockwork Orange, The Shining and Eyes Wide Shut as the re-realeaes.
-
I wish that they would show Lolita (1962) again because I can't find that movie anywhere, DVDs are out of stock at Amazon, I may see if I can buy it here at TCM.com.

Same here!

Calm down, no one is hear to hurt anyones feelings. Let's get back to topic.
-
...And now let's get back to topic. I have seen the line up for the essentials and I was mostly happy with the list of films. Carrie Fisher and Robert Osborne are great together and they both have different views on what makes a great film which I think will make it more fun to watch, if they had the same opinions than it would be obvious and boring to me, so many people think that this movie is amazing or this film is not and we see it all the time on these movie specials it's nice that we have two people who think differently. This film is considerd an essential and we really get to see why it is considerd an essential.

Cave Dwellers is another classic Joel episode.

Thank you, you are not defending anyone, just accepting and I respect that in a human being. I agree with Kyle, I don't think that rape is funny but in the movies it can be.
-
I don't think that rape is funny, but in the movie it is.
-
If the film did explain itself more, I don't think that I would have liked it. I like the mystery behind kubrick's films.
-
Once again, we misunderstand each other filmlover and you misunderstood me. Sorry for hurting your feelings.
-
How do you know what Kubrick intended, even I don't, nobody does. That's not the point, it's your view of the film that makes the emotional impact on you. We can all have different opinions on a film. Besides, kubrick was never the kind of guy that liked to explain his movies anyway, he lets the film speak for itself. We all have different views on what 2001 was about and A Clockwork Orange is no different.
-
I know! We would be yelling at each other and I hate the thought of that. Sorry you guys. I think that if I explained myself better that all of you would understand me a bit more but I am not good at expressing myself, who is? Whenever I try to express myself it comes out the wrong way and people misunderstand what I really mean so I guss I should just not say it.
-
Once again, I think we misunderstand each other and I have calmed down and I understand that we are all just misunderstanding each other. I don't like rape but you all think that I do because you misunderstand me and I think that we should stop because I don't want to hurt any of you. If we knew each other and understood each other a little more than maybe we would not have this problum but we don't know each other and I guss we need to be more careful about what we say to each other.
-
I agree, I don't think that this should get ugly. We have different opinions. I think that we are just misunderstanding each other that's all. We don't know each other that well and we just misunderstand each other and I guss things like that can happen on Message Boards.

You guys have no sence of humor. Drama queens.
-
I don't encourage rape, I just think that it can be portrayed in a very funny way. If you look at rape, its's so silly and dumb and funny.
-
You don't think that rape is funny because your sence of humor is not dark enough.
-
You don't think that what happens to Alex in A Clockwork Orange is funny because your sence of humor is different from mine, and the idea the he becomes more respected by socitiy in the end is even more funny, he is just going to go back and do what he used to do, rape and torture, to you it may be scary but to me it's funny.
-
Not depressing enough, no peole dying or being raped. Making fun of broadway is not dark enough, they could have made it more dark.
-
Well spoken! I still don't think that The Producers is dark comdedy, A Clockwork Orange is dark comedy. The Producers is not depressing enough.
-
Not to me, dark humor to me has to be depressing and tragic, like Dr. Strangelove and A Clockwork Orange.
To me you are talking about gross out or insulting type humor.

I wish we could count on another network to show newer movies uncut and letterboxed. Unfortunately, channels like HBO and Showtime still show the pan and scan versions. That's why I appreciate TCM's willingness to air more recent classics
Me too. I completly agree, there should be another channel for more recent films shown in letterboxed so TCM could stick to the classics although I have nothing against them playing newer movies, just as long as they don't play anything in the 2000s, the 90s is ok though, they should wait untill the next decade untill they play stuff from the 2000s. I have nothing against Resident Evil, I think that it's a good movie but it dosn't belong on TCM, no way. Showing films from the 90s is great because I love the 90s but I wish that we had another channel to show stuff like that uncut and letterboxed so TCM could stick to the classics because that's where the classics belong. There should be a channel for films from the 70s, 80s and 90s, maybe I could start one up, yeah right. I watch TCM for the films of the 50s though, I don't care for the films of the 30s and 40s.
