Thanks for the link, CelluloidKid. I definitely can't wait to see the film again!!

Saturday Night at 8pm Eastern:
Swing Time (1936)
To prove himself worthy of his fiancee, a dancer tries to make it big, only to fall for his dancing partner.
Cast: Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, Victor Moore. Dir: George Stevens. BW-104 mins, TV-G
I think this is the best of the Astaire-Rogers musicals.

How 'bout that? There's now info about The Candidate here. Hopefully the trailer's coming soon.
Thanks so much to the TCM staff!!
-
When I click the link for info on The Candiate, it goes to a movie called The Good, the Bad, and the Beautiful. I noticed there isn't a link for details about The Candidate on this website. While this issue isn't exactly life or death, I was hoping to possibly look at a trailer for this film (which I haven't seen in a while).
BTW, The Candidate airs September 3 on TCM. I remember this being quite an interesting film with Robert Redford and Melvyn Douglas.

Absolutely, and I agree that Jean Peters is very sexy in this one. She and Richard Widmark sizzle here!!
-
Airing tomorrow at 8pm Eastern:
Pickup on South Street (1953)
A petty thief accidentally steals a communist spy's purse.
Cast: Richard Widmark, Jean Peters, Thelma Ritter. Dir: Sam Fuller. BW-80 mins
An exciting, fast-paced gem from director Samuel Fuller. Thelma Ritter will especially break your heart. Make this a must-see if you haven't caught this already!!

Bernie was a hilarious comedian who didn't hold back. He'll be missed.

Thanks for the link. I should have checked the Hot Topics thread before creating my post.
Maybe this will lead to another airing in the complete version in the future.
-
I hoped they would have also included The Big Clock as a part of the Charles Laughton tribute in November. Let's keep our fingers crossed that it will air at a later date.
-
I caught most of The Prisoner of Second Avenue last night. It was pretty good, though it felt like a sequel to The Out-of-Towners. Disappointingly, the print that aired last night was edited. Some of the profanity was bleeped out, which really surprised me. I hope this film can re-air in the future with the unedited version.
-
I was also thrilled to see Alfredo Garcia in the lineup. I'm hoping to see Cross of Iron and Junior Bonner soon, and maybe even Straw Dogs. That will likely air very late if it ever happens to air on TCM.
-
All the President's Men?! Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia?! Platinum Blonde?! The Harder They Come?! A Fistful of Dynamite?!
Am I dreaming? I hope I don't wake up. Great stuff.

It's my favorite Billy Wilder comedy. I really loved the ending. Cagney is brilliant as always.
-
I'm glad it's airing again as well.
This happens every once in a while, and TCM is one of the very few stations where these incidents occur. At least I got the chance to revisit the excellent Bad Company.
Oh well... it's Summer Under the Stars season!! Great way to kick of the festival with Michael Caine today.

Comcast strikes again...
In much anticipation of seeing Monte Walsh for the first time, the picture suddenly freezes up!! I'm in a depressed, yet angry state right now. I have to wait another 18 days before I get the chance to see this film.
NOT FAIR!!

Tonight at 10pm Eastern:
Bad Company (1972)
Civil War draft dodgers head West to build new lives as outlaws.
Cast: Jeff Bridges, Barry Brown, Jim Davis. Dir: Robert Benton. C-93 mins, TV-MA
I caught this gem earlier this year on TCM, and it's fantastic. Not well-known, but it should be.

Mame: "She's not English, darling. She's from Pittsburgh."
Patrick: "She sounded English."
Mame: "Well, when you're from Pittsburgh, you have to do something."
Saw it again last night, and Auntie Mame is indeed top drawer.

The Devil Thumbs a Ride starring Lawrence Tierney.

Saw this again recently. It's very fun to watch. Bette (who's not among my faves), Olivia (who is among my faves), and company have made better movies, but In This Our Life has surprisingly become a picture I wouldn't mind seeing every now and then.
Bette is certainly wild here, but when comparing her performances in The Star and Baby Jane, she's not nearly as maniacal and over-the-top as I thought. Her final scene with Charles Coburn was very memorable, though.

A captive outlaw uses psychological tactics to prey on a bounty hunter.

4:00pm Ride The High Country (1962)
Two aging gunslingers sign on to transport gold from a remote mining town.

The only one I haven't seen is Western Union. The others are first-rate.

Good luck to both Bens!!
This will certainly be a more hip movie review show, but I'd be interested to really hear Mankiewicz critique movies. I'm sure his wit will be incorporated into the reviews.

As stated, it was Samuel L. Jackson in Jungle Fever and not Laurence Fishburne. He's mentioned that people get the both of them mixed up. I don't know how because they don't look anything alike.
I looooved the Fishburne interview last night. He was spot on about Gable, particularly getting deeper in his later films. Great stuff.
As for Mr. Fishburne, he's excellent in Deep Cover, School Daze (directed by Spike Lee), Boyz N the Hood, What's Love Got to Do With It, etc...
-
That Laurence Fishburne interview was so good, I think I'll watch the encore. The list he came up with of actors who were "swinging" was awesome. TCM should bring him back. Loved it!!

Sunday night at 8pm Eastern:
Sherlock Jr. (1924)
In this silent film, a movie projectionist dreams himself into a mystery movie.
Cast: Buster Keaton, Kathryn McGuire, Ward Crane. Dir: Buster Keaton. BW-44 mins, TV-G
A masterpiece. One of the most visually stunning films I've ever seen. Buster Keaton in tip-top form here.

Hi, filmlover. My guess is that Gene Kelly was Star of the Month during July '95. I don't believe Grace Kelly made that many films to comprise a SOTM festival.
