  1. I saw this movie on TCM last night and all I can say is THANK YOU TCM for showing this gem. It's been quite some time since I saw it, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Vivien Leigh was awesome as Blanche and Marlon Brando's performance was riveting. I had read that Burt Lancaster was selected for the role of Stanley on Broadway and turned it down giving a relatively unknown guy Marlon Brando the opportunity to play the role that catupulted him to fame. I bet Lancaster kicked himself for turning down the role. But I don't think anyone can play a better "Stanley" than Brando - it's been tried many times, but nobody can recreate it - Brando made this role his own. Great film. 2. great photos in this thread. Boy, MM had a HUGE butt - probably doesn't even notice a pole seems to be shoved up there - I can't figure that photo out.
  3. These photos are exceptional, really a terrific thread. The only one I thought was unnecesary was the photo of Clara Bow - I found that a bit insensitive and it was a little offensive to me to see that - just my thoughts and I'm sure I don't count for too much here as I don't log on to often - but generally, these are fabulous photos. Keep up the great work!
  4. LOL at Mongo - yes - Tab Hunter was "happy" to see Nuryev in that photo - perhaps he just took a Viagra pill - although I don't think they had such a thing back then.
  5. Sarah Palin and Tina Fey look alike. Buddy Hackett and Lou Costello George Bush and Alfred E. Neumann
  6. I had seen Blackboard Jungle and was intrigued by Vic Morrow. He played a very good part in this film. I looked him up and found he played in a show from the '60's called Combat. I saw the reviews were good and wound up buying the box set. I was pleasantly surprised at how good this t.v. show was and Morrow was excellent. Has anyone seen any other good films with Vic Morrow. Not many people speak of him and I doubt he had any "leading" roles, but it's too bad his film career wasn't developed more.
  7. That's a nice photo of the Minellis That photo with Kazan, Brando, Harris and Dean is great....I've seen it before. James Dean idolized Marlon Brando and Brando was the biggest star at that time. Kazan also directed Brando in Viva Zapata and Waterfront and he always raved about Brando and thought he was the better actor. You can see how hurt Dean is that Kazan is putting his arm on Brando's shoulder and Harris is looking only at Brando....
  8. I don't know about Swanson, but I knew this photo was Lucille Ball cause I have her biographies and the photo is in them, and I've seen that photo before, so I knew right away who it was.
  9. What a great thread. I just love it. Yes, Barbra Streisand is awful looking. James Brolin must be scared when he wakes up and see that next to him. Didn't Obama say something about "lipstick on a pig"??? I know there are lots of Streisand fans, and I love listening to her music - but I hope I can sleep after looking at her in that photo. Perhaps someone can post a better photo of her - I mean that has to be the worst photo I've ever seen.
  10. I see TCM is showing ON THE WATERFRONT now. I'd like to open this thread for discussion on this classic film. What are your favorite parts of the film? Do you like this film? Any thoughts you have would be appreciated.
  11. I have this book - Songs My Mother Taught Me - the Brando autobiography - and it was one of the best books I've ever read. Look at how gorgeously handsome Brando's face/profile was on the cover - ubelievably good-looking man. Speaking of Missouri Breaks - I also wish they showed another western with Brando called "ONE-EYED JACKS".
  12. Thank you Miss Musical for posting that photo with baby Mr. Morrow. I think he looked like a cute baby, but always has that very intense, serious look and the mouth and pouting lips were the same as when he was older. Who is June Peppas? Was that his mother?
  13. Nice thread. I don't know how to post photos, but I always thought Barbra Streisand resembled Miss Piggy from the Muppets. I also thought the following looked alike: Brad Pitt and James Dean James Coburn and Lee Marvin Charles Bronson and Yankee player Johnny Damon Paul Newman and Marlon Brando (in the 1950's) George Clooney and Larry King Julia Roberts and Olive Oyl Merryl Streep and Ingrid Bergman Katherine Hepburn and figure skater Nancy Kerrigan
  14. I love ON THE WATERFRONT. I think Brando was terrific, but I also think Lee J. Cobb should have gotten "supporting actor" for his role as Mr. Friendly. I could never figure out why Eva Marie Saint didn't leave the door unlocked so Brando can come in.....I would have left the door opened and waited for him to make his entrance. She hit him once with her brush, but it didn't take long for him to work his magic on her.
  15. I like Brando too. Tango wasn't one of my favorite films of his, I thought it was vile and crude, and I can't eat butter the same way anymore. I prefer Brando in Waterfront, Streetcar and a little-known western One-Eyed Jacks.
  16. Gable is handsome, but I would say that I think Marlon Brando, Paul Newman and William Holden are much more dreamier. Vivien deserved that Oscar - she said she couldn't stand Gable's breath and still gave such an outstanding performance.
  17. In Gone with the Wind, Vivien is always trying to push Clarke away every time he tries to kiss her. She looks like she's holding her breath and can't wait till the kissing scene is done. I read that she couldn't stand his breath and after that, it was hard for me to watch Gone with the Wind. But I do think Gable was quite handsome - from a distance
  18. McCain has to be laughing at the Democrats - they are fighting each other instead of fighting McCain.
  19. I just think the guy is too old to be elected President. He's in his 70's - imagine if he gets elected for a 2nd term..he'd be close to 80..... I don't want to have a political debate...but NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN can be an excellent cartoon strip for McCain. Obama can use it in his campaign too!
  20. I would like to see No Country for Old Men - I heard it was a good movie. Maybe they can also use this slogan for John McCain?
