  1. TCM has shown some excellent films this month. Last Saturday I watched On The Waterfront and From Here to Eternity all in the same day - you can't beat that.
  2. I was just browsing through old threads and came across this Brando stuff. I like the quotes he made, especially the ones below: "The only thing an actor owes his public is not to bore them." "An actor is at most a poet and at least an entertainer." (this one is my favorite one - classic "Brandoism") "Would people applaud me if I were a good plumber?"
  3. Thanks so much for posting that Cinemascope. I will read it thoroughly. I see you have 995 posts - so I'm not going to disagree with ya! (that's a lot of posts for only being on the board since last August - you're fairly new too)
  4. Mongo, thanks for agreeing with me about Citizen Kane. I guess you're allowed to say you don't like it. I didn't realize I'd catch so much wrath for stating an opinion - but I guess that's because I'm new - and I guess I jumped into the water too fast instead of just dipping my big toe in. LOL
  5. I respect your viewpoint Cinemascope and you probably know a lot more about the makings of classic films than I. I've seen enough classic films to know what I like and don't like. Citizen Kane is a film that isn't my cup of tea - and looking through some past posts and threads, it appears I'm not the only one who doesn't care for the film. I know it's always been thought of as the "best movie ever made", but I've yet to see why. Why is it important and a remarkable achievement? Perhaps you can enlighten me.
  6. Cinemascope, my post wasn't meant to upset you and I don't even know what "troll" is, so I doubt I'm one of those. I was just trying to post what I felt what be a good topic for discussion. I like classic films, but there are quite a few that I felt were a bit overated and I was disappointed with them. I'm not trying to start up "pointless arguments" and take exception to that. I enjoy discussing classic films and why people like certain films and others don't. I might be new to the boards here, but I still think I can join in and voice my opinion like everyone else. It's just a topic of conversation for goodness sake. I'm too old to partake in this type of banter. I guess I'll just say I love all classic films, actors and actresses.
  7. Sorry, I didn't mean to upset you cinemascope. I didn't realize that being a fairly new person to the boards precludes me from posting what I thought was an interesting topic. I suppose from now on, I'll just reply to threads that are already on the board and not create any of my own. It's tough being new and sorta feeling like you really don't fit in with the folks who have been here a while. Message was edited by: newclassicfilmfan Message was edited by: newclassicfilmfan
  8. Oh, okay thank you for explaining Mongo. In that case, I'm now wondering whether Lee J. Cobb, Martin Balsam and Richard Basehart were featured at some point in Spotlight? I like those actors.
  9. That baby photo of Vic Morrow, I took one look at it and without reading who it was, I knew it was Vic Morrow. That mouth is unmistakeable. Awww - what a cute baby!
  10. What Classic Films Were Your Biggest Disappointment? I'll start: Casablanca - I thought it was boring - although it did have some great lines. Citizen Kane - I still can't stay awake for the whole movie - I've tried many times
  11. Is the last post Gary Cooper photos? I'm sorry I'm not really familiar with him, but he must be popular if there are so many posts devoted in this thread to him.
  12. I like a few musicals. I love the Anchors Aweigh where Frank Sinatra and Gene Kelly dance with the cartoon characters. I also like Singing in the Rain and Yankee Doodle Dandy
  13. I've never seen Taras Bulba - the name of the film makes me physically ill. I picture some guy with a bulbous nose.
  14. I was wondering how someone is selected to be in the Spotlight? Is it just someone who had a birthday? I would like to know if William Holden, Linda Darnell, Sidney Poitier and Richard Widmark were ever featured in the Spotlight?
  15. I think the May schedule is very diverse and interesting. I think TCM does a great job in selecting different types of films. I would like to see the Brando documentary which is a switch from movies. I think he was a very magnetic actor - and I look forward to seeing him in Streetcar Named Desire. I haven't seen the film in a while, but I remember that I was sitting on my bed eating popcorn and then Brando entered the film and I recall dropping my popcorn all over the floor because I had never seen such a sexy actor - especially back in the 1950's. This time, I'll have a better grip on my popcorn when I watch this film.
  16. What a gorgeously handsome man. The color photo looks like he has a hairy chest - love hairy chests. To Movielover: I haven't read all the posts yet, just was reading your last one - I'd take a cab ride any day if Vic Morrow was the driver - he'd get a big tip from me. I always used to watch Combat! and liked him in that show - but this forum has given me a renewed interest in him - especially seeing these photos of Vic Morrow - my goodness - my Valentine's Day isn't that bad after all - LOL
  17. I believe Kay Lenz was married to David Cassidy. I'm ready to share my brownies with all of you!!! Thanks for making my day so nice.
  18. Happy Valentine's Day everyone. As you can see, I have no Valentine this year, so the day is pretty boring - but I decided to see y'all on the TCM boards. I personally wasn't looking forward to Valentine's Day because I thought it would be a little depressing this year with no Valentine and home by myself. I'm managing though - I baked myself some brownies today....
  19. Oh, okay sorry. I took my post off - I'll pass on this. Message was edited by: newclassicfilmfan
  20. I wasn't responding to your particular thread - I thought you just pick the most current thread if you want to add a new post? Did I not do it right? I don't like the 3 Stooges - that's my answer.
