I loved the song Daydream Believer, and the video on youtube of that song was terrific. Davy Jones was a real cutie in that video. I think he was so talented, such a nice person, I will miss him. He was my favorite Monkee. He was so charming and so sweet. He was a person that could light up a room as soon as he walked in and flashed that dazzling smile - a beautiful person. RIP.

RowanMartin - that clip of Daydream Believer is great! Thanks for that link. I think Davy Jones was at the height of his cuteness in this clip. I love the song - and Davy Jones was always a favorite of mine. He was a classy guy, never a bad word about him, he was funny, charming and cute. What more can I say except thank goodness we can always look back at this wonderful man's talent. He will be missed.

I'm watching this film on TCM now. It is one of the best films I have seen. The acting is supberb. Brando, in particular, seems like a natural to play the part of Kowalski. Vivien Leigh was great in this as well. I think Brando is the best actor I've ever seen. Once he is off the screen, I can't wait for him to come back on - he is mesmorizing to watch. They don't make 'em like this anymore.

I'll miss Davy Jones - a great guy, excellent singer, so charming and cute in his younger days...never heard a bad word about him. He seemed to enjoy life and always had a great smile and twinkle in his eye. Nobody mentioned that Brady Bunch episode where he takes Marcia to the prom. I heard that was the most viewed t.v. episode. Also, in 2008, Davy Jones was selected as the top hearthrob of all time. Perhaps someone can post a few nice photos of him on this thread. RIP...dear, sweet Davy Jones.

So sorry to hear of his passing. Davy Jones was a great singer and nice person. I loved the Daydream Believer song. He was so boyish and cute back in the Monkee Days. RIP sweet man.

If they can't have a tribute for him on his birthday, Feb. 14th, how about having him as a Summer Under The Stars candidate? That would be nice. There are several movies that he starred in that I've never seen. Would love to see that film where he played Dutch Schultz and how about Men at War and King Creole and Cimarron to name a few. Morrow was phenomenal.

I'm sure TCM can find a day to salute the films of Vic Morrow. If his birthday is in February and it conflicts with the Oscar films, how about devoting a day to him in the summer for "Summer Under the Stars"? Vic Morrow was a great actor, it's long overdue to appreciate his work in film.

Giant

I don't think there is a comparison between From Here to Eternity and Giant. Both are very different types of films. That being said, for me, I don't even put a film like Giant in the same league as one of the best films, From Here to Eternity.

My favorite redheads are Lucille Ball and Rita Hayworth.

The photos of Stewart Granger and John McCallum look like Vincent Price to me, especially the Stewart Granger photo.

Great, classic film. Aside from the venetian blinds, they supposedly had "extras" shaking the taxi from both sides to make it appear to be a bumpy ride, and they had people waving sticks and branches in front of the taxi headlights as well.

Well, my t.v. will finally be turned on and switched to TCM on Aug. 1st. I hadn't been viewing many TCM movies lately cause they don't show anything I'm interested in - but now that Brando will be on, I'll be sure to watch it. I wish they would have included some lesser shown films of his, like The Young Lions, The Men, Desiree, Viva Zapata, One-Eyed Jacks, The Fugitive Kind. But I can watch On the Waterfront and Streetcar Named Desire anytime they show it. I consider those films and the performance of Brando in those films, to be the best in the history of film.

"I coulda been a contedah, I coulda been somebody, instead of a bum, which is what I am......let's face it, it was you Charlie"......Brando from On the Waterfront.
-
Thank you TCM for having a day devoted to Marlon Brando on Aug. 1st. I think he was the best actor - can't wait to watch some of his films....I never get tired of seeing Brando films.

I liked Jennifer Jason Leigh in Single White Female. I think that was one of her best roles.
-
I liked Alfred Hitchcock Presents and Twilight Zone.

Vic Morrow and daughter Jennifer Jason Leigh bear a striking resemblence.
-
Jennifer Jason Leigh and her father, the late Vic Morrow, look exactly alike. If you want to see Vic Morrow at his "A" game, catch Blackboard Jungle - a fabulous movie with great acting - and of course watch the television show from the 1960's COMBAT. He was a terrific actor.

I used to like McEnroe - and now I enjoy him even more as a commentator. Nadal makes the most amazing shots I've ever seen in all the years I watch tennis. The opponent has to hit 4 or 5 winning shots against any other player, just to win a point against Nadal. He gets to every ball, on the full run he can hit a winning shot that bounces right into the corner of the court - while Nadal winds up 20 feet off the court after the winning shot. He gives 110% on every point - not matter what the score is...and that's why I like him.
-
How about Howard Cossell and Walter Matthau?
-
Dargo - I love tennis. I used to play a little, but not for quite a few years now. I like all top three players - Nadal, Djokovic and Federer. I used to love the Fed/Nadal rivalry, but Fed is slipping a little. He has a good chance to win US Open, but Djokovic (who by the way resembles a Chia Pet), is virtually unbeatable on hard court these days. Nadal is a real exciting player to watch - although he has too many injuries which might cut his career short - but he can go into male modeling after his tennis career is over - good looking guy - off the court.
-
Pretty good matchups Clore! Hedy Lamar and Vivien Leigh also look similar. A young Brando and Newman look alike too. Brad Pitt and James Dean are a slight resemblence too.
-
Man oh man - Nadal/Diamond-Phillips looks alike - and Nadal now has short hair which makes them look even more alike. By the way, hope Nadal wins US Open this year.
-
Dargo - thank you! These are the two young photos of Morrow and Cagney that I'm talking about. They look exactly alike to me.....don't you see a resemblence there?
Also, please post Lou Diamond Philips and tennis player Rafael Nadal if you can find it - I think they look similar too. Thanks Dargo - you're great.

I read where David Bowie was born "David Jones" but at the time Davy Jones was so popular, David Bowie switched his last name to not be confused with Davy Jones.
