  1. OMG- Tomorrow is *Maisie* Day! Hooray! We all should try to be more like *her* ! Fun gal. Message was edited by: casablancalover

The other character wields a knife and Boyd wields a waste basket. Mr Cutter was on the floor laughing so hard his eyes startinng watering." > > Instead of helping up your poor husband from the floor...you didn't change the channel? He seems like a nice guy. Tsk! Tsk! Read your wedding vows again. ;-) Wait a minute, CineMaven! Wouldn't you like to write something so funny you would make your friend's spouses laugh so hard they cry!? I guess it should be in comedy, however.
  3. Douglas Sirk. Anything by Douglas Sirk. I apologize to anyone who might be offended. But when Jane Wyman says in *Magnificent Obsession* (I think I have this right) after her operation: >*I think is see a little.* I always laugh. My bad.
  4. No, but I just read the synopsis. It would have made a great tagline! Message was edited by: casablancalover

  6. Wouldn't it be fun to visit Paris dressed as Tati? I mean, with Paris fashion being what it is, a guy could easily have a riot running around with the whole thing. I've driven a Smart car, maybe you could rent one of those for the duration. And don't forget the pipe. You don't even have to light it.
  7. h3. Oh, no! h5. How could I forget *Blue Demin* (1959)???!!! With Carol Lynley and Brandon deWilde. He gets her pregnant, and Warren Berlinger talks them out of an abortion.... I know I've screwed up the plot points a bit, but Warren Berlinger was in both *Blue Denim* and *Without Onions*!! He was cast as the unthreatening male friend in both!

Mine was for what passed as a liberal synod in those days -LCA (early 60s)! I attend a much more progressive congregation now- and now ELCA. A far cry for what was preached then. Literally-- Thank God. BTW- *Without Onions* is about girls and boys not giving into sexual temptation with each other. And like so many topics of that period, the Church preached with code words.
  9. It was very good; knowing what these refugees endured while trying to restart their careers from the ground up is very inspiring! It was a revelation to me that some of our "character actors" had been major stars in Europe. It must have been quite the culture shock. I did miss the last half hour however; was any mention made of the American actors who left Hollywood to fight in the war, and if that improved the options available for these European actors, at least for the duration? Even if it didn't change the equation, I would have been curious about that. Message was edited by: casablancalover

That's quite all right; I've thought of others too!???My particular favorites are the old educational hygiene films of the fifties! Also, a movie I saw in Confirmation class (Lutheran-"This is most certainly true")- *Without Onions* -which was to fulfill our resist temptation part of the class.
  11. It is showing today in Mpls/St Paul on tpt at 2:30PM CST. Thanks for mentioning this....
  12. I received an invite to the Inauguration. But I will only show it to my friends.. Message was edited by: casablancalover
  13. > {quote:title=ccbaxter wrote:}{quote} > Miss Goddess and CBLover, I'm glad I'm not the only one who liked that spot. I'm a bit surprised we're the only ones commenting on it, as it's a real eye catcher. I will try to TiVo it next time, and catch it at a speed that allows further comment. I wonder if it is visually in a parallel universe, Tati-wise ?
  14. Is there one movie that you enjoy that you have to watch alone? I'll start.... *She Devil*, with Rosanne Barr, Meryl Streep, and Ed Begley Jr. Message was edited by: casablancalover
  15. cc- Caught the spot; it is a fast flowing delight! It does sum up for me some earlier trips to LA! One of the favorite accomodations I stayed at through the years is the Bonaventure, the hotel featured in many films. I rode the elevator that the horse and Arnold rode in True Lies. The rooms were nothing special, but the environment was high energy to me. Have you seen the Jack Lemmon featurette narrated by Kevin Spacey? I liked it very much and I think you and Kevin have done him a great service. A wonderful tribute.
  16. LA was fine. I will be on the lookout for the spots.
  17. We had a nice discussion going before my trip. If you are referring to Audrey Hepburn's desending the stairs in *My Fair Lady* , I do agree! I will get back into the TCM habit. It is a great pity how few hotels even in LA offer TCM. I missed my TCM while I was gone. I will be on the lookout for the LA/NY spots. What makes them so interesting, cc?
  18. I saved my ballot, and I am preparing an acceptance speech. I am not decided yet as to whom I shall be accepting for, however. I know, I know -- I will be accepting on the behalf of the *winners* , but not sure in what character form.... Hummmmmmmmm..... ;-)
  19. > {quote:title=CineMaven wrote:}{quote} > ?? Ah, OK, welcome. But I think I agree with CineMaven. Why don't you write about your favorite movie on *TCM* ?
  20. > {quote:title=hlywdkjk wrote:}{quote} > *"I could identify the movies in all but two; what appears to be Arnold Schwarzenegger looking at his reflection, and Denzel racing away from something (and toward the camera)."* - casablancalover > > One of the mirror shots is of Warren Beatty in *Bugsy* - though there is one just before that I can't identify on the small "mediaroom" screen. Oops, my bad; sorry Warren, I'll clean my glasses next time. >And the young man running toward the camera isn't Denzel Washington (don't know the actor's name) but the scene is from *Boyz In The Hood*. *Boyz In The Hood* . And that's been recommended to me, too. Time I got around to seeing it. > > Is the woman in pink on the trapeze from *Funny Face* too? And what film has the early shot of Audrey Hepburn with the cloak/hood around her? Is that from My Fair Lady or is it Funny Face too? > > Kyle In Hollywood Oh yeah, they are both from Funny Face. The trapeze is early in the movie, and I believe Audrey's cloak shot is right before she runs to Flaustra's lair to hear the Philosopher speak...
  21. > {quote:title=CineMaven wrote:}{quote} > Thanxxx for citing that clip, Chip. Tell me, was that the beautiful SUZY PARKER in some of those clips? Yes, and from *Funny Face* . I could identify the movies in all but two; what appears to be Arnold Schwarzenegger looking at his reflection, and Denzel racing away from something (and toward the camera).

But I do not do plumbing..*
