Thank you for Elvis' signature song.
*A Christmas card for you all.*
The Carpenters:

Oh boy, this is wonderful! Love Vaughn Williams, and especially the Greg Lake!! Jackeee, (as CM likes to call you) You are the best, girl!! I haven't heard that in maybe? 20 years... I had it on my old cassette many years ago, and lost the cassette.. You have made a sweet moment for me come alive again.
That's the power of music! Thanks for the love.
I will dig up the Lt Kije suite sometime soon; it has a wonderful sleigh feel to it!
and *THANK YOU, JH, for the generous Southern Hospitality of your thread.*

h3. ! ! ! !
I just was listening to that clip! We do enjoy the same work. *The Messiah* is an Advent piece at my Church, so it is especially wonderful now. I like this one, for it is a sing-along version. Our Choral Director always insisted Counselor be sounded with a hard K sound, so it wouldn't sound mushy.. This version brings it all back, wonderful memories, singing with all those baritones and basses. I sang soprano, and later alto..

I was just mentioning to a niece that I would love a **** (comes in handy waiting for the bus/light rail), but the last one I saw was Blue Fox and $400+! I think I'll have to buy some fake fur and just make one. I love those outfits too; they make winter seem absolutely romantic!

That's the way I'm feeling about it, too. I'm sorry that you've gone through the experience of a severe medical condition in your family. But it also reads like you have your priorities straight. I hope things turned out OK. I am doing all right, though I would appreciate a stable income right now. But I will be sufficient for the day. I take it day by day...

It's nice you give a little equal time to us blonds ;-) !
I look at her face, and I wonder what it is that gives us the wonderful attitude of tough as nails, yet fragile heart. Is it the eyes? The way she can set her jaw just so, before and after speaking?

I don't believe she's a doll of true collecting value, She is just a doll of girl-loving value, which cannot be given a price.
It's a Pleasant Company doll. I do not want to perpetuate this sort of collecting..of dollars and cents. I know it is going to be seen as against the norm these days, but I feel the reason so many people are hurting in this economy is because of speculation on the part of those who throw money away on things without true value.
There are so many who invested too much for a house, then lost it. I will not hold those people totally responsible, since at it's core it was the investment of derivatives that caused the housing bubble to burst. It is a similar mindset.
I guess the question that remains is, What do we value?
Me? I don't value things as much as the experience of living to our fullest. I value people over things. Please don't misunderstand me, Fred. I am not questioning your values. I do think you and I put a high value on people, that's why you're here.
I value the intangibles. I know there's a movie quote somewhere, and I will find it...

>*Your husband's better than crazy, he's a writer. And you'll be just another story to him, Susie, unless you love him enough to stay and put the ending on it. Don't let the senator's daughter write the fade-out.*
Glenda Farrell, Susan Slept Here 1954
>Susan: (looking at photo of Isabella) *You know, I'd like to get a dye job and a facial like her.*
>Mark: *Isabella is a natural blond.*
>Susan: *You sure?*
>Mark: *We're very good friends. She told me.*

Isn't it fun?! The look on Anne Francis face, omg, haha, and the performance of Alvy Moore, the hapless friend who has to bear witness..
And Maude, the secretary. She's great too.

I love the _incidental_ Christmas movie. I also enjoyed the Wyman/Hudson/Sirk All That Heaven Allows, when Wyman's children give her a TV for Christmas so she has something to do for her evenings!!
The author of _Magnificent Obsession_, Lloyd C.Douglas, was a pastor who seriously was ahead of his time in theology/mindset in forgiveness, and the redeeming power of love. People loved his work, and his books sold well.

It's wiki, but it's accurate.

God, I loved her in *Dead End*. Claire's character was the reality of that neighborhood, compared to the fantasy of Sylvia Sidney's character. And one could not say that one lady's strength over adversity endured over another's. Each survives as they can.

Amen to that, CM!
As my dad used to say, "Good things come in small packages."
Great thread, JF. It always puts me in the mood to see Rebecca again...
Humm, do you know if there's a pic of Jasper, the spaniel?

This is a movie that is such a sign of it's time. Especially the screen writer who's just hanging out ... So many details now that would not fly! LOL..
Like, sure, cops just happen to bring young women over for Christmas for old bachelors to take custody...

What always impresses me is the Bailey Building and Loan was a precursor to the Savings and Loans in the later decades. De- or Re-regulation brought about the S & L scandals of the 1980s. George Bailey would have been spinning in his grave. If he should live so long...

CM and Holly:
I chose that pic because Olivia looks decidedly _not_ Melanie mealy-mouthed!
Ironically, The Adventures of Robin Hood shots have her in full head dress, so unable to see her locks...
