Ok so I tried looking up what I thought could be the title but there's so much going on in the movie that I couldn't recognize it if I wanted to! Alllrighty so this is what's going on:
At the beginning of the movie this actress is putting on a bunch of plays and shows and stuff and is missing out on a lot of her daughter's (annie maybe?) life. Finally she quits the business and returns home. She has a black housekeeper that has a half white and half black daughter that lives in her-the actress's- house (i think). There's a man that the mother is in love with and I'm pretty sure his name is Steve. But when the mother leaves to do a show or something Steve stays to watch the daughter and she ends up falling in love with him and gets mad at her mom for being in a relationship with him later on in the movie. Meanwhile, the mixed daughter of the housekeeper was seeing a white boy that didn't know she was half and half and she kept that a secret from him because she was ashamed of being half black, When he found out he beat her and dumped her. Soon after she left the city and tried making it on her own not telling anyone that she wasn't all white. When her mother tried coming to look for her, she was shunned from her daughters life. Later she got sick and died and her daughter didn't go public about her roots until she ran up to the hearse her mother was in at her funeral. .... i know, it's a lot but i wanted to be thorough! haha I hope this helps in finding out the name. I've seen it twice from the middle and something always came up to wear i couldn't stay to see at least the names of the cast so i could figure it out.
