Thank-You so much! I appreciate you taking the time to find the article... I'd really like to see this...so I immediately looked here on the site... and TCM has it listed. Do you think that means they have it in their catalog? I'm gonna request in hopes they can air it. Thanx again!

There was an interview on TCM with Bill Murray...and he talked about a silent film he saw and liked. Does anyone remember the name of that silent film? Thanx
-
That was FAST! And correct! Thank-You so much! I guess I couldn't remember it was Robert Young because he doesn't usually play the 'bad' guy. Thanks again for the speedy answer...

Not only can I not remember the title... I don't remember who starred in the movie either. So...does anyone recognize this story... (I hope I'm not getting 2 movies mixed up lol)... A man meets up with a woman every week at a cafe. At first I think it had to do with work...but she falls for him. They both like boats...and talk about sailing. He's either married...or marries another woman. He and his wife move to another state. So he no longer sees the 'boat' girl. He gets a job he doesn't like. I think he's working for his father in-law. His wife buys a house out in the country...like in the desert..for them to live a quiet life. He then meets another girl...maybe at his new job... who gets some money... and wants to run away with him. At first they plan to get the money from the rich wife... trick her into writing a check...but I think they don't use that check. They seem to honestly be in love. (I know this is getting too long lol) Anyway...as they drive away to a new future...they have a wreck killing the woman in the car. The man goes to the hospital... and the police assume the woman in the car was his wife. And he lets them believe that it WAS his wife. But people start wondering what happened to that missing secretary...or whatever she was. He goes away on a cruise ship...and runs into the 'boat' girl. She's still mad at him for leaving him... so she helps the police try to trap him into confessing to the murder of the missing secretary. The boat girl comes to realize that he's not the evil killer they suspect he is. Although he did try to go to the ranch to kill his wife...making sure she would not show up alive...(since the police think she's dead already)...but I think he finds her dead...she's fallen off a hilltop. He has implied he doesn't remember what happened that night... but a store keeper remembers him...and the police take the man to the ranch to try to jar his memory... plus they suspect he's a killer. They find the dead wife ... and now her horse has fallen too. I think this goes to trial...and he's telling the whole story...the truth about everything... that he did not actually kill anyone...but he must fear that he will be found guilty...so he tries to run from the court room and they shoot him. I could have this totally mixed up...but does this sound familiar to anyone? Thanks!

WoW...Thanx for the preview! Although...now I'm more confused than ever...lol Everything seems to 'fit' my description...but this isn't necessarily 'familiar' to me. lol My quest for the title started because...I saw the film only once a few years ago...and I was thinking of some requests the other day...and wanted to request this one...but coudn't think of the title...or even recall the stars... that's why I asked for you guys help. But I don't remember Half this stuff...execution...poison! How'd I miss THAT! lol Quote: " An espionage drama set in the early 20th century, Ever in My Heart stars Barbara Stanwyck as a New England naif who marries a German citizen (Otto Kruger). In 1915, Stanwyck and her husband suffer a brace of blows: The death of their son, and the sinking of the Lusitania, the latter incident sparking a wave of anti-German sentiment. Hounded out of their small town by the angered citizens, Stanwyck and Kruger move to Europe, where the husband voluntarily leaves his wife to join the Kaiser's army. In 1917, Stanwyck, working as a canteen volunteer in France, discovers that her once pro-American husband is now a German spy. To save him from a firing squad, she poisons his wine, then kills herself. " So...did I see this film? Or did I miss half of it? Not sure. But now I'm all the more anxious to have a chance to see it...now I'm extra curious...lol Thanx again for all y'all's help...

fixin2quilt ...I think you could be Right! Marysara ...you were right all along! I was ToTally off yesterday...the 40s...Jewish guy... NO Barbara...lol ...but after thinkin' about it more...the description of Ever in My Heart DOES seem to fit. Thank-you both... I really wish TCM would show it NOW...lol...so I could see if indeed that IS the film... But at least now I have a title to request...and a title to watch for on the monthly schedule... Thanx!

Ahhh...Thank-you for trying...but that's not it either. I think the film is either not well known...or my description is just too vague...lol The film pretty much takes place in the couple's house. She's fair ...light hair...and has a sweet demeanor. He's kinda like a cross between Rossano Brazzi & Paul Henreid...that is IF my memories are right. (I thing he might build something to sell...like birdhouses or cuckoo clocks...or maybe they sell antiques...I can't remember) The story is not really about the war so much...as the affect it has on the couple and their son. At first the man is well liked with many friends and has a successful business. He even celebrates... at his house with friends and family...when he becomes an american citizen. They all accept him as an american...But when war breaks out...he's shunned by many ...because they see him as one of ''them... even though he hasn't changed... (cause come to think of it...he's not jewish...but just german) So money is tight and he keeps encouraging his wife to go stay at relatives ...where things would be better for her. I DO wish TCM would show it again... so I can say - OH...That's IT! lol Message was edited by: chatterbox

Ahhh ...Thanx SO much for your responses...but No...those are not the movie. This film didn't star a big star like Bette Davis or Barbara Stanwyck. If it starred a big star...they weren't a big star 'to me'....and I know pretty much all the stars...since I love old films...(love ALL films). The woman was pretty and petite-ish... seems to me she looked kinda like a Sonja Henie almost...(although it wasn't Sonja because this was a drama)...and the man seemed a little older than her... and maybe had gray-ish hair....(although the film was probably in black & white). I do hope Some-One can help me...because it's driving me nuts...lol I can see it so clearly...but not clearly Enough! If ONLY I could remember someone IN the film... I could probably figure it out. I do know I saw the movie on the TCM channel.

This is a film from probably the 40s. I really don't have the best description...but hopefully someone will recognize this. There's a young woman who marries a man...and all is well. In fact I think the man even wins some 'Man of the Year' award. But the war breaks out...and he must be Jewish...because people start shunning him... and he has less and less work...so the family is struggling. I think the husband keeps trying to convince his wife to go stay with her family...maybe her sister. I think they might have a young son...that she would of course take with her. It seems to me...that either the wife or the husband ...(probably the husband)...have a foreign accent. Does this ring a bell with anyone? Thanx...

David Brenner and Barbra Streisand definitely look like brother-N-sister! Here's a look-a-like... Character actor Mark Harelik. He's had ToNs of little bit parts on LoTs of shows. He has always reminded me of Tom Selleck...especially with those same dimples. He should totally play Tom's brother on something. They even sound just a like... with that same kinda-scratchy voice... And a silly one... Sarah Palin and Peggy Hill...from King of the Hill... lol
-
Here's a couple close matches... Shirley MacLaine and Simone Signoret... Fanny Ardant and Ava Gardner
-
I was watching a Sandra Dee film...and I remember the first time I saw Christina Milian... and how something about her reminded me of Sandra...(which may seem strange...lol) But something about her does...
-
hi... Here's Alan Greenspan and Woody Allen... I see ya'll were talkin' about Tina Fey and Sarah Palin...they DO match. Too bad Tina isn't on SNL anymore...(or IS she...I know she's on 30 Rock these days) I also thought...(although Sarah doesn't match as closely as with Tina)... I thought Sarah also reminds me of Nia Vardalos...from My Big Fat Greek Wedding... Message was edited by: chatterbox

I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees the Penn/Mitchum similarity. Scsu...I meant to mention how much your Jean Willes and Ava Gardner pix look-a-like! They could be the same person! I don't have any that are exact matches like that...but here's a few more that remind me of each other... Judy Garland and Liv Tyler... Tom Conway (who played The Falcon...and was George Sanders brother)...and Erroll Flynn... Angela Lansbury and Nicole Kidman... Kay Kendall and Sean Young... These two may not look a like...but there's just something about 'em that seems a-like...lol Don Knotts and Steve Buscemi
-
Thank-You Bronxgirl! I have more... although some may be a bit of a stretch...lol... but I still see a similarity... Like... Sean Penn and Robert Mitchum... Robert Montogmery and Robert Young... Benicio Deltoro and Brad Pitt... Russell Crowe and Benjamin McKenzie (The OC) Ewan McGregor and Albert Finney... A little silliness... lol W C Fields and Bill Clinton...
-
Ahhh Thanx CineMaven! RainingViolets...you're So right...I would have never thought of that. Here's a pix... Whitney Blake ...and Kim Novak...

I Love films so it would be hard to pick 5... And because there's so many "important" films for different reason. But just to add to the mix of films here... I was thinkin' I'd pick these because they have been so loved...that the stories have been told over and over again in different forms... Rear Window It's a Wonderful Life Scrooge The Maltese Falcon Mr Blandings Builds His Dream House Five movies that were "important" to me...because they left such an impression are... To Kill a Mockingbird The Diary of Anne Frank A Patch of Blue Imitation of Life (1934) In Cold Blood Five colorful movies I can watch over and over...because I Love the "look" of them...(so they're important to me in a visual way)...are... Gone With The Wind All That Heaven Allows The Trouble with Harry Leave Her To Heaven Breakfast At Tiffany's It's hard to pick 5 directors...so... Some important directors who have made films that shouldn't be forgotten ... other than Alfred Hitchcock, John Ford, Fritz Lang, Howard Hawks, Billy Wilder, Frank Capra, Elia Kazan, Frank L Mankiewicz and Otto Preminger... Directors who haven't been mentioned are ...Charlie Chaplin, Vincente Minnelli, George Stevens, David Lean, John Huston, Robert Wise, William Wyler, Michael Curtiz, Sam Wood, George Cukor, Henry Koster and John Cromwell. Yes...the tv movie stars Joan Hickson...who is the actress that Agatha Christie personally wanted to play Miss Marble. I agree that she's a great Miss Marble. Here's the imdb page... http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091970/ I know my library has this tv movie...and a lot more of Agatha Christie's stories film versions. You should check your library. I kinda remember a silent film I once saw on TCM about a woman who has a baby and then another woman comes from town to steal the baby. I think the woman who had the baby...I think her simple farm house is set on fire. I think there was a bad storm brewing so it may have been lightning that started the fire...or maybe the woman who wanted to steal the baby caused it. I was thinking it was Lillian Gish....but in trying to recall the title...I checked her films... and I really didn't see a title that sounded familiar...or a plot that fit. Am I mixing 2 silent films together...or does this sound correct to anyone? What might this movie be called... and was it Lillian Gish? I just watched Johnny Belinda...and it made me remember this silent film...because the part about the baby seemed so familiar... Thanx for any help. Message was edited by: chatterbox

I saw part of The Mad Miss Manton (1938) once...co-starring Henry Fonda and Hattie McDaniel. I have always wished I could catch it again...and see the whole thing. I do like mysteries... comedy mysteries too. It looked cute. I have always liked Christmas in Connecticut (1945). I would like to see No Man of Her Own (1953) again...because I totally recognized that story in Ricki Lake's Mrs Winterbourne. I would also really like to see Annie Oakley (1935) again too... I can barely remember it ...it's been so long since I've seen it. And I would love to see Titanic (1950) again too...great cast.

I just requested 3 movies in the "suggestion" section ...and I Really hope they air them!! The Shuttered Room (1967) (also called Blood Island) Starring Gig Young, Carol Lynley, Oliver Reed ... A couple inherits an old house that harbors a dark and terrifying secret...Very Creepy! A New Leaf (1971) Starring Walter Matthau and Elaine May ... Matthau as a scheming playboy...now pennyless... marries May... an awkward, clueless rich botanist...with the intent to murder her... and as her husband... inherit her money...Very Funny Movie! My Six Loves (1963 or 1964) Starring Debbie Reynolds, Clift Robertson, David Janssen, Eileen Heckart, Hans Conried, John McGiver, Alice Ghostley and Alice Pearce ... An exhausted Broadway star (Reynolds) goes to her country home to find two inept housekeepers and six little orphans...Very Cute! It's been such a long time since I have seen these movies... and I would SO enjoy seeing them again...that I really DO hope they show 'em...(and if they do...I hope I don't miss 'em).
