  1. Obama talks up Warren behind closed doors to wealthy donors "......She has publicly bashed millionaires, has sworn off high-dollar fundraisers and has refused large checks from Democratic bundlers. But behind the scenes in recent months, former President Obama has gone to bat for Warren (D-Mass.) when speaking to donors reluctant to support her given her knocks on Wall Street and the wealthy. And if Warren becomes the nominee, Obama has said they must throw the entirety of their support behind her. .............. "He obviously thinks she’s very smart,” one Democratic donor added. “He thinks her policy ideas matter. And I think he sees her running the campaign with the most depth.” ............ https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/475576-obama-talks-up-warren-behind-closed-doors-to-wealthy-donors
  2. @SethAbramson · 2h Replying to @SethAbramson 1/ Where we were just *days* ago? McConnell making clear the Senate would move to a quick vote on the articles after a presentation by each side *without* live testimony. Then Pelosi held the articles. Then the explosive Duffey Letter dropped. *Now* Mitch is back on his heels...... 6/ More broadly, America is learning that now that articles of impeachment have put Trump on *notice* of the consequences of further invitations of foreign interference in our elections , there's no rush to end the ongoing investigations into what he's hiding and what else he did......... 8/ The McGahn case won't be heard until January—which means the House argument that it should hold the articles in *part* because more articles may be forthcoming once the testimony Trump obstructed goes forward is an active and compelling argument through at *least* next month...... see: https://twitter.com/SethAbramson/status/1209189024319053827
  3. Trump administration proposes Social Security rule changes that could cut off thousands of disabled recipients ".......Critics of the plan liken it to the administration’s efforts to cut food stamps, among other entitlement programs, with insufficient information offered to explain curtailing benefits. Social Security officials declined to comment. For years, Republicans have argued that Social Security benefits need to be reined in to save money. The new rule, advocates for low-income Americans say, is just a way to push people off the disability rolls. “I have serious concerns about this proposed rule,” said U.S. Sen. Bob Casey (D., Pa.), adding that it “appears to be yet another attempt by the Trump administration to make it more difficult for people with disabilities to receive benefits.”........... https://www.inquirer.com/news/social-security-ssi-ssdi-trump-administration-disability-20191212.html

  5. Daniel Dale @ddale8 Can’t stop won’t stop with this one. Speaking to conservative students in Florida today, Trump repeated his usual story about getting a Michigan award that does not exist. -------------------------------------------------------------- @KristenhCNN Trump says he was honored 10 years ago in Michigan--as "man of the year"
  6. Chuck Schumer @SenSchumer · 7h 91 minutes after President Trump’s July 25 call: Michael Duffey sent an email ordering military assistance to Ukraine be withheld. If there was ever an argument that we need Duffey and others to testify & we need the documents we requested—this is it. This email is explosive. If there is nothing wrong with withholding the aid, why didn’t Michael Duffey want anyone to know about what he was doing? If the call was so perfect, why is the email so “sensitive” that it should be kept hush-hush? What are they afraid of? https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2019/12/official-hold-aid-ukraine-trump-zelensky-call/

  9. NATIONAL rEVIEW- Four Tests for Impeachment " And how the president meets them Advocates of a president’s removal from office by Congress should have to climb over four walls to reach their objective. First, they should have to show that the facts they allege are true. Second, they should show that the fact pattern amounts to an abuse of power or dereliction of duty by the president Third, they should show that this abuse or dereliction is impeachable. And fourth, they should show that it is prudent for Congress to remove the president for this impeachable offense: that it would produce more good than evil........... .... The Constitution provides for impeachment and removal to protect us from officials, including presidents, who are unable or unwilling to distinguish between the common good that government is supposed to serve and their own narrow interests. Though he has done some good things in office, Trump is just such a president. Congress should act accordingly. https://www.nationalreview.com/magazine/2019/12/31/four-tests-for-impeachment/

  11. Brian Stelter @brianstelter Spot-on, @Sulliview : "In an unceasing effort to be seen as neutral, journalists time after time fell into the trap of presenting facts and lies as roughly equivalent and then blaming political tribalism for not seeming to know the difference." =================================== The two big flaws of the media’s impeachment coverage — and what went right .........Their test was to cover the impeachment proceedings without getting mired in the usual traps: false equivalence; distraction by presidential stunt; rampant speculation; the use of squishy language; and what I called Barr-Letter Syndrome, a reference to the way the mainstream press allowed Attorney General William P. Barr last spring to mischaracterize the findings of the Mueller report. Now that Trump has been impeached, it’s not possible to say that the mainstream media has earned anything close to an A. Nor did they flunk out. Here’s a look.......... https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/style/the-two-big-flaws-of-the-medias-impeachment-coverage--and-what-went-right/2019/12/20/22c42e9c-2349-11ea-86f3-3b5019d451db_story.html
  12. Robert Reich @RBReich · 7h Just in time for the holidays, US Steel has announced 1,545 layoffs at two plants in Michigan. 14. Trump Blames Obama For Lightbulb Law That Bush Signed Republicans are complaining about the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007. The title of the bill gives away the problem. Obama wasn’t president in 2007, so he could not have signed the legislation into law. The lightbulbs that have so enraged Trump became law under Republican president George W. Bush. " @WhiteHouse · 21h If you like your lightbulbs, you can keep your lightbulbs! The Obama Admin tried to limit Americans to buying more-expensive LED bulbs for their homes—but thanks to President @realDonaldTrump , go ahead and decorate your house with whatever lights you want." https://www.politicususa.com/2019/12/22/trump-blames-obama-for-lightbulb-law-that-bush-signed.html
  15. From an imaginary restraining order to a phantom drop in NATO spending Trump makes 99 false claims in two weeks "Tump made 22 of the false claims at a campaign rally in Hershey, Pennsylvania. He made 16 of them in a lengthy exchange with reporters during a meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. The economy was Trump's top subject of dishonesty, with 25 false claims. He made 22 false claims about military affairs, largely on account of his presence at a NATO summit. He made 15 false claims about NATO itself, 11 about impeachment. Trump is now averaging 63 false claims per week since we started counting at CNN on July 8, 2019. He made 38 false claims last week, 61 the week before. He is now up to 1,450 total false claims since July 8. A breakdown of the lowlights from the last two weeks: The most egregious false claim: An imaginary restraining order......... Trump, an eager purveyor of rumor and insinuation, he told the crowd: "I don't know if it's true. The fake news will never report it. But it could be true. No, that's what I heard, I don't know." There is not a hint of evidence that the story is true. Page tweeted that it was a "lie." The most revealing false claim: An assault in Maryland........ The most absurd false claim: Rewriting campaign history Trump's general approach to history: if you don't like it, rewrite it...... Here's the full list of 99 false claims, starting with the new ones we haven't previously included in one of these roundups: ...... https://www.cnn.com/2019/12/21/politics/fact-check-trump-two-weeks-december/index.html?utm_source=twCNN&utm_content=2019-12-22T02%3A15%3A06&utm_term=link&utm_medium=social

  20. BTW...........saw this & really enjoyed =============================== "The Two Popes" (2019) review- ".......Pope Francis is the first non-European Pope since the 8th century and the first ever from South America; his predecessor is the first to resign his position since 1415. Rather than dwell on these historical details, screenwriter Anthony McCarten and director Fernando Meirelles instead craft scenes that humorously play off what we already know about the eventual paths the two men will take. The first scene at the summer estate is a fine bit of comic frustration simply because we know Bergoglio is never going to get that paper signed. Essentially a two-hander, “The Two Popes” could have been a dry, somber affair like “Frost/Nixon” (which I liked, by the way). But the creative teams on both sides of the camera project a loose, sometimes flashy tone onto the material and the resulting joy is infectious........ https://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/the-two-popes-movie-review-2019
