late Sun., for TCM Imports, not indicated as premiere, but don't recall having seen before... 2:00 AM (ET) drama Cesar (1936) Synopsis: After letting his son be raised by another man, a retired seaman tries to rebuild his family. Dir: Marcel Pagnol Cast: Raimu , Pierre Fresnay , Fernand Charpin . LEONARD MALTIN REVIEW: D: Marcel Pagnol. Raimu, Pierre Fresnay, Orane Demazis, Charpin, Andre Fouche, Alida Rouffe. "Fanny's son (Fouche), now grown, learns that his father is Marius (Fresnay), not Panisse (Charpin). Raimu steals the film in the title role, particularly when he gives a poignant discourse on death. Third of Pagnol's trilogy, preceded by MARIUS and FANNY. All three were the basis of the play and movie FANNY (1961)" & is the only one of the three directed by Pagnol himself. http://www.tcm.com/tcmdb/title/70562/Cesar/articles.html -

Fri., 9-1 for END OF SUMMER BEACH PARTY...... 12:00 AM (ET) B/W - 68 m musical Surf Party (1964) Synopsis: A young girl visits her surfer brother in California. Dir: Maury Dexter Cast: Bobby Vinton , Patricia Morrow , Jackie DeShannon . "Surf Party is [a] realistic, albeit melodramatic, look at the surfing craze and Malibu surfers in particular. It is also an obvious rip-off of Beach Party without the zaniness. There is some neat surfing footage featuring pros like Mickey Dora and Johnny Fain but the flat black-and-white photography doesn’t do it justice though it buoys the story. The female leads all do well but Bobby Vinton and Kenny Miller fail miserably trying to pass themselves off as surfers." see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surf_Party

An all-women “Lord of the Flies” reboot is a contradiction in terms- "Two male directors are slated for the all-girl remake and, besides Warner Bros., few are excited ........... ...Yes, people will talk of “Mean Girls,” “Heathers” and the often self-destructive behaviors of women and girls in cliques both in youth and in adulthood when it comes to this remake. Yet, at its core, Golding’s “Lord of the Flies” is an intensely male narrative rooted in male group dynamics. The vocal turn-taking gambit that requires the passing of the famous “conch” and so many other aspects of the source material constitutes a sharp critique of how men and boys listen to and interact with each other both in personal and political situations. Women, as we have learned, do things very, very differently...... froy ✔ @froynextdoor uhm lord of the flies is about the replication of systemic masculine toxicity every 9th grader knows this u can read about it on sparknotes https://twitter.com/deadline/status/903002462394527744 … 7:38 PM - Aug 30, 2017 http://www.salon.com/2017/08/31/all-women-lord-of-the-flies-movie/

Lee Wilder Cast: George Sanders , Corinne Calvet , Jean Kent . LEONARD MALTIN REVIEW: D: W Lee Wilder. George Sanders, Corinne Calvet, Jean Kent, Patricia Roc. "Sanders enlivens OK chronicle of fortune hunter who decides that marrying and murdering a series of women is the key to financial success." 12:00 AM B/W - 92 m comedy Touch Of Larceny, A (1960) Synopsis: To better his lot, a British officer fakes his defection to the Russians so he can sue the press. Dir: Guy Hamilton Cast: James Mason , Vera Miles , George Sanders . LEONARD MALTIN REVIEW: D: Guy Hamilton. James Mason, George Sanders, Vera Miles, Oliver Johnston, William Kendall, Duncan Lamont. "Ingenious comedy of officer who uses availability of military secrets to his advantage in off-beat plan." & see: http://www.tcm.com/tcmdb/title/93698/A-Touch-of-Larceny/articles.html "Mason's performance, bland and wryly humorous, pursues its objectives with the tenacity of a homing torpedo; his portrayal indicates that we may see more of Mason sweet rather than sour, and without recourse to either bedroom or deadpan humor, the film restores to British screen comedy something that has been missing since Ealing days." ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thurs., 8-31 for SUTS: Elizabeth Taylor...... 3:00 AM C - 99 m suspense Night Watch (1973) Synopsis: A woman recovering from mental problems witnesses a murder, but nobody believes her. Dir: Michael Moore Cast: Robert Lansing , Patrick Wayne , Slim Pickens . tagline: "One man's eyes...another man's hands...between them they held the strangest gun in the West!" "tough, brutal plot and background music by Raoul Kraushaar that strongly resembles the work of Ennio Morricone, whose spaghetti Western scores would revolutionize the genre. Add the unique plot twist highlighted in its tagline, strong supporting performances and excellent cinematography and you have a B Western ripe for rediscovery." see: http://www.tcm.com/tcmdb/title/27439/Eye-for-an-Eye-An/articles.html ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tues., 8-29 for SUTS: Marion Davies.............. 8:00 PM B/W - 115 m silent When Knighthood Was in Flower (1922) Synopsis: Henry VIII¿s younger sister defies convention by falling for a commoner. Dir: Robert G. Vignola Cast: Marion Davies , Forrest Stanley , Lyn Harding . "Since the silent era, the film has been little seen. The 2017 restoration by Ben Model and the Library of Congress, which debuted at the Toronto Silent Film Festival, includes tinting and digital coloring of some scenes to reproduce the original's hand tinting. With its new availability, When Knighthood Was in Flower proves that Davies could more than hold her own against even the most lavish of Hearst's productions." see: http://www.tcm.com/tcmdb/title/502981/When-Knighthood-Was-in-Flower/articles.html
