  3. Trump’s Been President for 3 Years. Government Morale Has Dropped for Two of Them. An annual survey of the federal workforce shows growing dissatisfaction with Trump’s appointees. How bad are things, really? "............ The drop wasn‘t uniform across the government, and a number of agencies are feeling markedly upbeat, including NASA and the tiny U.S. International Trade Commission. But the decline was particularly significant at some of the crucial law enforcement agencies targeted by the president, including the FBI, the Justice Department and Customs and Border Protection, the new data show. ........ The dominant factor in the decline across the government was a drop in employee perception of “effective leadership” at senior levels of their agency or department. ........... The very lowest score among mid-size agencies was at the Department of Education, where Secretary Betsy DeVos has taken unpopular measures like curtailing teleworking and has been engaged in an ongoing battle with the employee union. The agency saw a drop in employee morale for the fourth year in a row, with the dominant factor a drop in how employees scored the effectiveness of the agency’s leadership, including senior officials, according to the data. ..... https://www.politico.com/news/agenda/2019/12/17/government-morale-trump-federal-administration-084835

  5. More than 700 historians sign letter calling for House to impeach Trump .....writing in a public letter that Trump’s disregard for the rule of law represents a “clear and present danger to the Constitution.” “It is our considered judgment that if President Trump’s misconduct does not rise to the level of impeachment, then virtually nothing does,” the scholars write in the letter, which was shared on Medium by Protect Democracy, a nonprofit advocacy group. ......The historians argue that "Trump’s numerous and flagrant abuses of power are precisely what the Framers had in mind as grounds for impeaching and removing a president." Citing Alexander Hamilton, they also assert that Trump's alleged offenses arouse the Constitution's authors' fear that powerful members of the government would become"mercenary instruments of foreign corruption." "President Trump’s lawless obstruction of the House of Representatives, which is rightly seeking documents and witness testimony in pursuit of its constitutionally-mandated oversight role, has demonstrated brazen contempt for representative government," they write. "So have his attempts to justify that obstruction on the grounds that the executive enjoys absolute immunity, a fictitious doctrine that, if tolerated, would turn the president into an elected monarch above the law." They conclude by arguing that Trump's behavior fits Hamilton's description of an "unscrupulous demagogue,"......... https://thehill.com/homenews/house/474838-more-than-700-historians-sign-letter-calling-for-house-to-impeach-trump
  6. We Are Republicans, and We Want Trump Defeated The president and his enablers have replaced conservatism with an empty faith led by a bogus prophet. By George T. Conway III, Steve Schmidt, John Weaver and Rick Wilson The authors have worked for and supported Republican campaigns. "........asks all Americans of all places, creeds and ways of life to join in the seminal task of our generation: restoring to this nation leadership and governance that respects the rule of law, recognizes the dignity of all people and defends the Constitution and American values at home and abroad. Over these next 11 months, our efforts will be dedicated to defeating President Trump and Trumpism at the ballot box and to elect those patriots who will hold the line........ The American presidency transcends the individuals who occupy the Oval Office. Their personality becomes part of our national character. Their actions become our actions, for which we all share responsibility. Their willingness to act in accordance with the law and our tradition dictate how current and future leaders will act. Their commitment to order, civility and decency are reflected in American society. Mr. Trump fails to meet the bar for this commitment. He has neither the moral compass nor the temperament to serve...... Congressional Republicans have embraced and copied Mr. Trump’s cruelty and defended and even adopted his corruption. Mr. Trump and his enablers have abandoned conservatism and longstanding Republican principles and replaced it with Trumpism, an empty faith led by a bogus prophet. ....... We look to Lincoln as our guide and inspiration. He understood the necessity of not just saving the Union, but also of knitting the nation back together spiritually as well as politically. But those wounds can be bound up only once the threat has been defeated. So, too, will our country have to knit itself back together after the scourge of Trumpism has been overcome.
