to my mind, the pointed-toe spiked heeled shoes are comparable to the old Japanese tradition of foot-binding: unnaturally restrictive, painful and unhealthy to the wearer, while mysteriously and condescendingly cruelly attractive to many the male onlooker. One of the last vestiges of Western female suppression.

late tonight for TCM Imports:
2:00 am ET105 mindramaIl Sorpasso (1961) PREMIEREA shy law student meets a bon vivant who takes him for a drive through the Roman and Tuscan countryside.
Dir: Dino Risi Cast: Vittorio Gassman , Jean-Louis Trintignant , Catherine Spaak .
"For a good part of its running time, a contemporary (and ostensibly non-Italian) viewer might not be sure of how to take the film - its comedy is mild and circumstantial, and the social-critique subtext that gives the movie bite could be missed by anyone not familiar with Italian road culture and the social stress it produces."

A Walk on the Wild Side?
that's the film, Terrence, thanks.

with Laurence Harvey & Capucine? playing poor white Southerners and Anne Baxter as a Mexican cafe owner.
Love the opening though:
though the question was asking for the producer, so it's finance's thread.....
-
Wild guess---Charles K. Feldman, WHAT'S HEW PUSSYCAT?
very good, right man, wrong movie.
The film had memorable Saul Bass opening credits & an oscar nominated Elmer Bernstein/Mack David title song.
(And some weird castiing choices)

-
thanks, Edythe
that was fun

maybe Christopher Reeve?
-
What producer of a notorious 60s film had filled it largely with actors he represented, so that he would get an agent's commission along with his share of any profits?
Eventually, the Screen Actors Guild would forbid agents to produce while still actively representing talent, a rule largely inspired by the producer's behavior.

The lyrics of I Went to a Marvellous Party are a first-person description of five parties attended by the singer on the French Riviera. Noël Coward composed this song after he and Beatrice Lillie attended a beach party given by Elsa Maxwell in the south of France.
The song appeared in the David Niven film Better Late Than Never (1982), in which Niven appeared as an aging cabaret artiste performing to an indifferent French Riviera audience.

but the 'Sisters' segment was introduced by a deliberately nervous Richard Barthelmess?
