"there are some quality actors involved--Huston, Fonda, Hopkins, and Shelley Winters have all done fantastic work in other films, and two, there are a couple moments where the incompetence achieves a level of sublime ridiculousness so that Tentacles becomes "so bad it's good"

  2. It appears that animated films will be airing the night of October 6 (under the theme of "Back To The Drawing Board," but the 3 selections in prime time are TBA.

    The late night selections are:

THE ADVENTURES OF PRINCE ACHMED --- a wonderful silent film

GULLIVER'S TRAVELS -- the first feature-length Fleischer cartoon

THE MAGIC BOY  --- a truly magical film from Japan's Toei Animation Studio

THE PHANTOM TOOTHBRUSH - a Chuck Jones film

Finally, good to see this :D

"THE MAGIC BOY'' may be a premiere ( the 3 others I've seen a couple times before)

Keeping fingers crossed for something new for the 3 To Be Announced

  4. Everyone else excited for THE BABY airing tonight?

Seems like ages since they last showed it.

Hi & welcome to the boards (especially if you're an Underground fan)

I hate to sound negative but....you may be new, but if you look thru this thread, there's a few complaints about too many recent showings of "The Baby", which has been aired 2 or 3 times in the past year. But if you've never seen it, please enjoy....it is pretty weird :D

    But sincerely WELCOME

& we have recently been seeking suggestions for new UNDERGROUND airings, so if you can think of any you'd like to suggest please feel free...

  5. One of Rodger's and Hammerstein's biggest hits was "South Pacific".  When the movie version came out, they had added one song that was not in the Broadway show.  Do you know what that song was?

-The film includes the song "My Girl Back Home", sung by Cable, which was cut from the stage musical ?

  6. anyone catch this one early today? Not sure if a premiere, but I hadn't seen it before.

Gotta agree w/Maltin review here, a German version of AQOTWF, without the sentiment or speechifying

    war

German soldiers face terror and despair on the front lines during World War I.

CastGustav Diessl , Claus Clausen , Else Heller .

LEONARD MALTIN REVIEW: D: G. W. Pabst. Fritz Kampers, H. J. Moebis, Claus Clausen, Gustav Puttjer, Jackie Monnier, Hanna Hoessrich, Vladimir Sokoloff.

"Pabst's first sound film is a bone-chilling, unrelentingly bleak--and ultimately pacifistic--account of German soldiers battling their French counterparts in the trenches during WW1. Without the benefit of modern special effects, Pabst creates a vividly realistic, horrifying view of war, and effectively contrasts the tedium and sudden bedlam universally experienced by soldiers. Makes an intriguing double-bill with his KAMERADSCHAFT (1931). As powerful an antiwar statement as ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT"

  7. Thank you, lavender.

These two actors played father and son in two movies.  In the first film, the older actor was the star while the younger one had a very minor role as his son.  In the second film, the younger actor was now the star with the older actor in support.

Name the 2 actors and the 2 films.

    any hints?
