  3. a pleasant viewing Oscar alternative tonight....... 8:00 pm (ET) The Artist (2011) 1h 40m | Silent | TV-PG A silent screen swashbuckler faces career problems with the coming of sound. Director Michel Hazanavicius Cast Jean Dujardin, Btrtnice Btjo, John Goodman "....Though Hazanavicius is clearly paying his respects to the Silver Age of Hollywood, The Artist does not duplicate the conventions and styles of silent cinema. Instead, The Artist pays homage to cinema by referencing its history and by playfully parroting the conventions, actors, tropes, genres, plots, and techniques of silent film. The characters are composites of Silver Age stars........ https://www.tcm.com/tcmdb/title/823731/the-artist#articles-reviews?articleId=1068747
