  1. Crikey, mate, loved it! Always enjoy the chance to see and learn about new (to me) foreign films (& cultures).

(Though some of the broader Aussie accents were kind of hard to understand.)

Ms. Weaver was an excellent host-- knowledgeable and confident on-camera.

Films were a fine mixed bag. Some, of course, I liked more than others.

Some of the new found favs were the new (to me) Weir films, The Plumber, Last Wave, Cars Ate Paris, Starstruck, Campion's Sweetie, Newsfront, ...Jimmie Blacksmith (great one) & Devil's Playground.

Great programming choice for a Spotlight.

Nice work & thanks to TCM :):)

  2. Indeed there are so many different examples of the varied techniques of film animation other than the traditional cell-animation that usually 1st comes to mind: stop-motion techniques ( with many differing materials, Harryhaussen's creatures, Puppetoons, Claymation, 'South Park' type cut-outs, silhouette (Prince Achmed), humans (Angry Kid  shorts), sand, pinscreen) and all the new computer/digital techniques. I don't think there would be any difficulty in filling up a SOTM or Fri. Night Spotlight with examples of some really fascinating & creative films (assuming rights availability, of course)

BTW, I always wanted a chance to see the Oscar nominated animated films and shorts mentioned every year at the awards. Where does anyone get to see ANY of those?? ;)

  3. so didya hear R.O. say he DIDN'T think MFL should be considered an 'Essential' ?!

Disagreeing with DB, (paraphrasing here) he could appreciate the production, liked having Harrison's great performance on record, but just couldn't 'buy' Hepburn's (though he loves her) performance, or the fact she couldn't handle(although her voice was 'pleasant enough') the musical numbers.

    My sentiments exactly!

    Woo-hoo & good for him!!

(& a brave critique on such a popular film)
