Assuming I'm up...glad that's over, that quote's been haunting me since dan first posed it last summer and left it unresolved.
here's one from a popular noir:
"responsibility...I'll spell it for you, t-r-a-p."

Just going by your info, was thinking either "Roberta" or "Evergreen", but, of course the last clue decided that. However having never seen it, that I remember, I'll just guess it may have been either the publicity man, 'Tommy Thompson' (Barry MacKay) OR the theater producer 'Leslie Benn' (Sonnie Hale) ?
-
"Evergreen"?
-
Yaay for phroso!
-
who remembers...
" The strangeness of this life cannot be measured: in trying to produce my own death, I was elevated to the status of a living hero."

Nice work, Watasha. Loved all the wise cracks in that one!

'til dan returns, here's one from a recently aired film:
A: " $50 will keep my nursery babies in milk for a month."
B: "Get awfully mildewed won't they?"
-
you're up, dan.
or thread open?

uuuh, maybe 'don't mess with me'?
next:
" Oh, now don't turn ordinary on me. I get tired of ordinary dames. And I don't want to get tired of you."
-
Sterling Hayden as 'Dix' from *The Asphalt Jungle* ?
-
'til tracey returns,
finance, just to keep thread moving, ya want to take it?

A: "... you talk to her. Explain that she's not the one for Don."
B:" I did."
A:" What did she say? "
B:" Oh, an assortment of things. Almonds, pecans, filberts, walnuts. "
A:" She'd probably say the same thing to me if I talked to her."
B: "Yeah, only in one word."

thanks, phroso, always a favorite of mine.
so who remembers...
"All those mangled bodies...There must be about twenty cars. They're all piled up one on top of the other. ...I wish my camera man had been here. He's never around when he should be. You see, I need something like this for my documentary. I need it. It's-it's America."
