  3. Julia Davis @JuliaDavisNews · Jul 5 Trump-centric Fox News and the GOP follow the lead of America’s most pro-Russian president. Russian state media have aired so many of Tucker Carlson’s comments that the host of Russia’s state TV lovingly described Carlson as “practically our co-host.” ------------------------------------------------------- Moscow Has a Field Day With Trump’s Fireworks at Mt. Russia-More- Kremlin-controlled media continue to flatter the American president they sometimes call their “agent.” But they know he’s in trouble, and the Putin bromance is on ice for now......... ....for now, Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin are trying to keep their longstanding bromance in check, at least where the official record is concerned. Putin sent a telegram congratulating U.S. President Donald J. Trump on America’s Independence Day. Interesting move. By avoiding a phone call Putin also avoided any direct pressure to address reports about the Kremlin paying bounties to the Taliban....... Likewise, instead of concocting its own divisive propaganda, TASS simply quotes Devin Nunes and Mike Pompeo, both of whom sought to find and punish the leakers who exposed the Kremlin’s alleged cash for kills program instead punishing Russia for putting a price on the heads of American soldiers............ https://www.thedailybeast.com/moscow-has-a-field-day-with-trumps-fireworks-at-mt-russia-more
  4. Trump and the GOP's Handling of Covid-19 Is Sheer Lunacy The economy isn't roaring back. What's roaring back is Covid-19. Until it's tamed, the economy doesn't stand a chance. ".......There was never a conflict between containing Covid-19 and getting the economy back on track. The first was always a prerequisite to the second. By doing nothing to contain the virus, Trump has not only caused tens of thousands of unnecessary deaths but put the economy into a stall. The uptick in jobs in June was due almost entirely to the hasty reopening, which is now being reversed...... What is Trump and the GOP’s response to this looming catastrophe? Nothing. Senate Republicans are trying to ram through a $740 billion defense bill while ignoring legislation to provide housing and food relief. They are refusing to extend extra unemployment benefits beyond July, saying the benefits are keeping Americans from returning to work. In reality, it’s the lack of jobs. Trump has done one thing, though. He’s asked the Supreme Court to strike down the Affordable Care Act. If the court agrees, it will end health insurance for 23 million more Americans and give the richest 0.1% a tax cut of about $198,000 a year. This is sheer lunacy. The priority must be to get control over this pandemic and help Americans survive it, physically and financially......... https://www.commondreams.org/views/2020/07/06/trump-and-gops-handling-covid-19-sheer-lunacy?cd-origin=rss

  12. US & Canada selected Coronavirus Contact Tracing: Disease detectives track an invisible culprit Disease detectives are trying desperately to beat the clock and find those who have been exposed to the virus...... "........She and her colleagues in Savannah and her counterparts in other cities across the country have been working frantically to trace the path of the infection and to find those who may have been exposed to the virus. They talk to patients, asking for names of individuals they have spent time with, and chase down those individuals and to tell them to remain isolated so they do not infect others. The pressure on investigators and contact tracers has been intense......... Investigators and contact tracers try to find out whom the patients spoke to during a two-day period before they became ill and for the period of time beyond that - until they isolated themselves from others. That means recalling anyone they saw for more than 15 minutes and who stood or sat within six feet of them. Did you see a movie, take an Uber or go to church? If so - did you stop for donuts? an investigator may ask, according to a government report on contact-tracing programmes. What's behind alarming new US outbreaks? Is the pandemic getting worse in the US? The challenges are immense: "You're asking people to think back," says Yale student Tyler Shelby. This raises the possibility for potentially awkward conversations: "You don't necessarily need to specify who they slept with. It's really just anybody that meets that criteria", or the guidelines that define close contact as anyone within six feet of you............. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-53244843?xtor=AL-72-[partner]-[bbc.news.twitter]-[headline]-[news]-[bizdev]-[isapi]&at_custom4=8D580ABE-BFDC-11EA-ADF3-64A54744363C&at_medium=custom7&at_custom2=twitter&at_campaign=64&at_custom1=[post+type]&at_custom3=%40BBCWorld
