  4. for SILENT SUNDAY........ 12:00 AM drama Diary of a Lost Girl (1929) Synopsis: A society girl falls from grace after she's seduced. Dir: G. W. Pabst Cast: Louise Brooks , LEONARD MALTIN REVIEW: 😧 G. W. Pabst. Louise Brooks, Fritz Rasp, Josef Ravensky, Sybille Schmitz, Valeska Gert. "Pabst and Brooks' follow-up to their PANDORA'S BOX is even more sordid, yet in some ways more intriguing: Louise is, in succession, raped, gives birth, is put in a detention home, then a brothel, inherits money, marries, is widowed... and writer Rudolf Leonhardt claims only the first half of his script was filmed. Fascinating nonetheless, with an explicitness that's still surprising."
  5. late Sun., 7-14 for TCM Imports...... 4:00 AM (ET) B/W - 104 m TV-MA Veronika Voss (1982) Synopsis: It was based on the life of Sybille Schmitz, a star of Nazi cinema favored by Joseph Goebbels who disappeared from view until committing suicide in 1955. ... Dir: Rainer Werner Fassbinder Cast: Rosel Zech , Hilmar Thate , Cornelia Froboess " Veronika Voss fictionalizes her life and elaborates on the unknown relationship between Schmitz and her doctor. Rosel Zech plays Voss with the imperious cluelessness of Gloria Swanson in Sunset Boulevard; she is a woman out of time, living off borrowed glamor. ...... Fassbinder said that, "If a thing of so much significance could be forgotten or repressed, then something must be pretty wrong with this democracy and this 'German model.'" Veronika Voss was the model German, now the victim of a society's vast forgetting. " see: http://www.tcm.com/tcmdb/title/17371/Veronika-Voss/articles.html

Dir: Jeffrey Schwarz Cast: Tab Hunter , Robert Wagner , Clint Eastwood . ....David Friend of Vanity Fair calling it, "slick, savvy, rollicking, and eye-popping....Tab Hunter Confidential is not only brave for its candor and enlightening for the social context it provides, it is also a delightful eyeful, using ingeniously edited vintage clips and employing rarely seen still photos...." see: http://www.tcm.com/tcmdb/title/2194594/Tab-Hunter-Confidential/articles.html

" Although the overall mood of the film is lightly suspenseful, the climax arrives with a joltingly unexpected plot twist and the finale is starkly tragic, relieved only by the knowledge that a sort of rough justice has finally been served on at least one of the crooked main characters. ....." see: http://www.tcm.com/tcmdb/title/92125/Il-Bidone/articles.html LEONARD MALTIN REVIEW: 😧 Federico Fellini. Broderick Crawford, Giulietta Masina, Richard Basehart, Franco Fabrizi. "Absorbing Fellini tale, which he co-scripted, about a trio of small-time crooks who go about fleecing peasants in Italy, each planning for a better life. The spotlight is on the eldest, a world-weary loser nicely played by Crawford. Not among the director's best; still an intriguing portrait of hope and desperation. Aka THE SWINDLERS. Original title: IL BIDONE."

Dir: Fritz Lang Cast: Klaus Pohl , Gerda Maurus , Gerhard Dammann . "..... Lang, who also made Metropolis, had a personal interest in science fiction. When returning to Germany in the late 1950s he sold his extensive collection of Astounding Science Fiction, Weird Tales, and Galaxy magazines.[3] Several prescient technical/operational features are presented during the film's 1920's launch sequence, which subsqequently came into common operational use during America's postwar space race: ........ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woman_in_the_Moon LEONARD MALTIN REVIEW: 😧 Fritz Lang. Klaus Pohl, Willy Fritsch, Gustav von Wangenheim, Gerda Maurus, Fritz Rasp. "This lesser Lang effort, his last silent film, is about a spaceship and its trip to the moon. It's slow and way overlong, and it pales beside his brilliant METROPOLIS."

  16. Fri., 6-28 for Stonewall..... (times ET) 8:00 PM Some of My Best Friends Are... ( 1971) the melancholic frustrations of the gay community post-Stonewall, as reflected in a diverse assemblage of people frequenting a Greenwich Village gay bar on Christmas Eve. Dir: Mervyn Nelson Cast: Tom Bade , David Baker , Paul Blake . BW- 110 mins, CC, Letterbox Format ".... a rough piece of filmmaking, replete with uninspired camerawork, splotchy lighting and muddled sound recording. And while the film is lauded for its emotional authenticity, it also traffics in its fair share of clichs about queer culture and identity which are especially glaring from the vantage point of almost 50 years' hindsight...." see: http://www.tcm.com/tcmdb/title/90739/Some-of-My-Best-Friends-Are-/articles.html Underground.... 2:00 AM Myra Breckinridge ( 1970) Myra (Raquel Welch) takes on toxic masculinity in the form of her uncle, former cowboy star Buck Loner (John Huston), and an overly macho male student (Roger Herren). Dir: Michael Sarne Cast: Mae West , John Huston , Raquel Welch . BW- 94 mins, CC, Letterbox Format ".... the film hardly seems the disaster it was dubbed at the time. Although West's dialogue had been recycled from her stage appearances in the 1940s and 1950s, it was new to film and often quite funny. Welch actually pulls off some of her comic scenes, creating a stylized performance as Myra that looks much better today than it did in 1970. The film's revolutionary sexual politics, although somewhat watered down from Vidal's original novel, have led to sporadic revivals at gay film festivals. Dir: Harry Keller Cast: Hedy Lamarr , Jane Powell , Jan Sterling . "......... While the film did not do well at the box office, it deserves more attention than it has received over the years. It's got a fantastic cast of players including Jan Sterling, who plays Lily Frayne, another aging actress holding on to any semblance of her youth, and James Gleason who has a small role as bartender Tom Maloney. Powell delivers by inhabiting quite a sexy performance. ..." see: http://www.tcm.com/tcmdb/title/74733/Female-Animal-The/articles.html LEONARD MALTIN REVIEW: 😧 Harry Keller.
