  2. Meet the Supporters Trump Has Lost A significant majority of people who voted for him in 2016 are planning to do so again. What is different about those who’ve had a change of heart? ".....More than 80 percent of the voters who won’t back Mr. Trump again agreed with the statement that he doesn’t behave the way a president ought to act. Their view is shared by 75 percent of registered voters across the battleground states. “He said he was going to, quote unquote, drain the swamp, and all he’s done is splashed around and rolled around in it,”....... .......a veteran in Big Rapids, Mich., said he planned to vote for Mr. Biden because “he’s got integrity, he tells the truth, he’s got compassion and empathy.” “Donald Trump represents the past,” he said, “and I believe that the Democrats and Joe Biden and the young people of the world are looking at the future. “I will never vote for another Republican in my life because of Donald Trump,” Mr. Smith added. “What changed? 5. @DavidLauter In a political moment shaped by the death of George Floyd, Trump has increasingly embraced the political legacy of George Wallace. @EliStokols looks at 72 hours of racist appeals. Trump, in a hole, digs deeper into racial incitement “History will look at the Trump years as being a reactionary right-wing movement that saw America was becoming 60% nonwhite and panicked,” Brinkley said. “When the economy crashed and George Floyd was murdered, Trump had cement feet. He went back to a tired old playbook, and he lost the center in America. If you were a conservative, center-right voter, you’re now looking to get rid of him.” A raft of recent nonpartisan polls backs up that assessment....... see: https://www.latimes.com/politics/story/2020-07-01/trump-digs-deeper-racial-incitement
  6. Trump, in a hole, digs deeper into racial incitement- "President Trump on Wednesday suggested that painting the words “Black Lives Matter” on New York City’s Fifth Avenue would amount to a “symbol of hate,” complaining that such an action would be “expensive” and “denigrating [to] this luxury Avenue.” That came shortly after a threat by the president to veto the Pentagon’s budget legislation should it include a measure to take the names of Confederate generals off military bases, which he denounced as being sponsored by “Elizabeth ‘Pocahontas’ Warren (of all people!).” That came only hours after his declaration that he “may END” a federal housing regulation aimed at desegregating neighborhoods, which he claimed has had “a devastating impact” on America’s suburbs. And that came roughly a day after he re-tweeted a video of supporters in an almost entirely white Florida retirement community shouting “white power” from a golf cart......... “History will look at the Trump years as being a reactionary right-wing movement that saw America was becoming 60% nonwhite and panicked,” Brinkley said. “When the economy crashed and George Floyd was murdered, Trump had cement feet. He went back to a tired old playbook, and he lost the center in America. If you were a conservative, center-right voter, you’re now looking to get rid of him.” A raft of recent nonpartisan polls backs up that assessment......... “Things like today make me think we have an honorary member of the ‘boogaloo boys’ in the White House,” .......... “But it also forces the hand of a particular element of the Trump coalition — folks who have been concerned mainly about their stock portfolios and lower taxes and overlooked the rest,” he said. “At what point does it become reason enough to abandon him?” https://www.latimes.com/politics/story/2020-07-01/trump-digs-deeper-racial-incitement

  8. Trump's resistance led intel agencies to brief him less and less on Russia ".........Early in his term, Trump's briefers discovered that when his oral briefing included intelligence related to Russia's malign activities against the United States, including evidence of its interference in US politics, Trump would often blow up at them, demanding to know why they kept focusing on Russia and often questioning the intelligence itself, multiple former administration officials said. "The President has created an environment that dissuades, if not prohibits, the mentioning of any intelligence that isn't favorable to Russia," a former senior member of Trump's national security staff told me......... https://www.cnn.com/2020/07/01/politics/trump-intel-briefings-russia/index.html

  10. Why 'superspreaders' are so important for the spread of COVID-19 "In this video, we discuss what is a superspreader event (SSE) and why superspreader events are so important for the spread of SARS-CoV-2. Superspreading has also been called "dispersion". Several respected groups of researchers from Israel, the UK, and Hong Kong, have shown that only 10 to 20% of COVID-19 patients are responsible for 80% of secondary infections. So if we can prevent these superspreader events, we could prevent a second wave of infections. We also discuss cluster sites and their commonalities — the three Cs and superemitters and their impact on the spread..........
  11. Hundreds of Alumni of George W. Bush administration launch pro-Biden super PAC ......... "......We just feel the time now is to restore dignity to the White House, and the current gentleman is not, so that’s why we’re supporting Joe Biden,” 43 Alumni for Biden joins a slate of other GOP groups that have formed to oppose Trump, including The Lincoln Project, which has seen its profile rise over its biting attack ads against Trump. The newest super PAC intends to separate itself from other groups by solely focusing on positive messages to reinforce Biden’s campaign. “We are the only group within these other groups that were all 43 alums,” said Millikin. “And unlike ... The Lincoln Project and the other groups that we know of, they’re spending tons of money on ads and things of that nature, which is great. We’re going to raise money as well, we’re a super PAC, but our focus is not negative.” “We just want to focus on the positives, and the positive message to us is we need a gentleman who actually acts like a leader...." https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/505425-alumni-of-george-w-bush-administration-form-super-pac-to-back-biden

  14. Joe Biden’s press conference and the Fox “news side” racket "........Fox executives frequently try to defray the controversies created by the bigoted right-wing propagandists on its “opinion side” by talking up the purportedly credible reporting of its “news side.” But as the McKelway case demonstrates, the network’s reportorial corps largely exists to advance the stories its demagogues are obsessed with............ ....The exchange with Biden about “cognitive decline” quickly vaulted to the top of Fox News’ website and has since been discussed on Fox programs including The Daily Briefing, Bill Hemmer Reports, Your World with Neil Cavuto, Special Report, Hannity, The Ingraham Angle, Fox News @ Night, Fox & Friends First, Fox & Friends, and America's Newsroom. For his part, during a turn on Bill Hemmer’s program, McKelway claimed, “There’s speculation -- and it is widespread, there’s no hiding it anymore -- that based upon several gaffes that Biden has made in recent months and even in recent years, that he is experiencing the first effects of some sort of mild dementia or cognitive impairment.” And that’s the difference between Fox’s “news” and “opinion” side. The “opinion” side speculates; what makes it “news” is reporting that other people are speculating." https://www.mediamatters.org/sean-hannity/joe-bidens-press-conference-and-fox-news-side-racket
  15. ".....Among them: — Knock it off, Russia. — Wear a mask, Americans. — Systemic racism must end. None of the above are particularly bold or controversial messages. ..........But such words do not come easily to Trump — and his silence emboldens those who reject these messages and contributes to the cascading crises that now engulf the White House and have put his reelection in peril. “People now require a serious man with a serious message and don’t feel like they have it,”.......... .....The combination of the virus, the racial unrest and economic upheaval, Jillson says, has got Trump supporters reevaluating their past inclination to be mildly amused by the chaos he sows and left them asking: “’Am I still entertained? Am I still comfortable? Am I still willing to take the uncertainty?”

  23. National mandate on mask-wearing could work better than lockdowns, new report suggests "A national mask mandate could increase U.S. face mask usage by statistically significant and economically large amounts," the report concluded. .........and could save the U.S. from a 5 percent hit to economic growth, according to a new report from investment giant Goldman Sachs. “Our baseline estimate is that a national mandate could raise the percentage of people who wear masks by 15 percentage points and cut the daily growth rate of confirmed cases by 1 percentage point,” Jan Hatzius, Goldman’s chief economist, wrote in the note to clients. “These calculations imply that a face mask mandate could potentially substitute for lockdowns that would otherwise subtract nearly 5 percent from GDP,” Hatzius continued........ “A national mask mandate could increase US face mask usage by statistically significant and economically large amounts, especially in states such as Florida and Texas that currently don’t have a comprehensive mandate and are seeing some of the worst outbreaks,” ...... https://www.nbcnews.com/business/business-news/national-mandate-mask-wearing-could-work-better-lockdowns-new-report-n1232541?cid=sm_npd_nn_tw_ma

Trump WH omitted in its briefing to GOP lawmakers as it downplayed intel as murky/contested. Suspicions of Russian Bounties Were Bolstered by Data on Financial Transfers Analysts have used other evidence to conclude that the transfers were most likely part of an effort to offer payments to Taliban-linked militants to kill American and coalition troops in Afghanistan. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/06/30/us/politics/russian-bounties-afghanistan-intelligence.html
