Marie Wallace was one of the original stars of Somerset as India Delaney, the beautiful, selfish, and grasping daughter-in-law of the richest man in town. She even inherited the company because Jasper Delaney was disgusted that neither son had the killer instinct in business. If this sounds like a great part for Marie Wallace, it was. I think this was the part she got when she left DS. She was undone not by a vampire or a Leviathan but by a regime change in the writing department, which canned many of the original characters.

She also played Crystal, the Joan Crawford role, in a 1973 Broadway revival of The Women, with Kim Hunter, Alexis Smith, Myrna Loy, Rhonda Fleming, Dorothy Loudon, and Jan Miner.

She played Crystal in that revival??? Surprised they didn't get another big name for that (considering the cast).

apologies if this offends, but something about the LEVIATHAN storyline that I am surprisingly amused by has been the three characters of MEGAN and her HUSBAND as well as "actress" OLIVIA COREY, who is the reincarnation of AMANDA from 1897- although the character in that storyline had, i felt, next to NO POINT AT ALL.

MEGAN is portrayed by MARIE WALLACE with a misplaced INTENSITY that I just cannot help but chuckle at- it's my understanding from watching some interviews that MARIE WALLACE has been very kind and supportive of the fans of the show, so I'll let her be...(ALSO, THIS WIG IS EVERYTHING)

her husband is played by CHRIS BERNAU and- again, apologies- but WOW, HE IS GAY. Like the guy couldn't fool HELEN KELLER. Gay gay. Gay gay gay gay gay...[I imdb'd him and saw his tragic fate, so I'll also let him be]...AND AGAIN, he's not a bad actor, just SO OBVIOUSLY GAY he makes LOUIS EDMUNDS look BUTCH (no small feat at that)

but DONNA MCKECHIE (and I apologize if i spell her name wrong) is just so spectacularly bad as OLIVIA/AMANDA (and she later shows up in 1840 as another character) that honestly, I'm amused. I saw her in a scene with DAVID SELBY yesterday where FOR THE ENTIRE EXCHANGE she is looking OFFSTAGE TO THE RIGHT and you CAN SEE HER EYEBALLS MOVE AS SHE READS OFF THE DAMN TELEPROMPTER, (very badly I might add- it reminded me of the "brain fever/brake fluid" misread at the end of SOAPDISH. )

I don't remember Chris Bernau. So he was in the Leviathon story? I read up on him (what little there was) and he moved on to Love of Life. He was a well regarded actor there.

The movie is about his development as a young man coming into his own despite the mad race for school grades in a highly competitive atmosphere.

It's about him. If it ain't please tell me what it is.

It's about HIM and his friends. Yes, he's the lead, but his pals have significant parts too. I'm ok with his performance. We'll have to agree to disagree.

I see they are selling it in sections for $25-30 per.  I'll go that route and buy it in stages. But it doesn't look like they have every part. Wish someone would rerelease it as a WHOLE set!

She was a Bob Fosse protegee who was in the original cast of A Chorus Line, so she is primarily known as a dancer. Later in her career, she played Sally (the singing role, originally played by Dorothy Collins) in a Paper Mill Playhouse revival of Follies. A friend who saw that production loved McKechnie, praised her singing, and thought that if this production had gone to Broadway it would have revived her career as a singer/actress.

Don't you mean Michael Bennett? They were married for a time.

I didn't realize Donna was ever on the show.

Agree to disagree. He's in nearly every scene and still makes far less of an impression than Houseman. But to each his own. 🙂

But the Bottoms-Wagner scenes were obviously written not only to provide a “romantic” element but also to enlighten Bottoms to the fact that Kingsley regards the young scholar as just another talented student, no more. Wagner gets Bottoms to stand up to him in class, remove the pedestal of worship he spends most of the film erecting and begin, by the end of the film, to be his own man. That’s a lot more than merely being a member of the ensemble.

Who would? He might be in every scene, but the scenes aren't written in a way for the actor to dominate them.

One of my favorites due, mostly, to John Houseman's performance though Bottoms is pretty. They never seem to add this one to the streaming site. 😕

For some reason I missed this at the time. And on TCM as well, though they've shown it a few times. Finally saw it last night. I thought Houseman was great, but the rest of the film was uneven.  Seemed like stuff was left on the cutting room floor. The romance with Wagner was just too rushed. He stops over and suddenly they're in bed. You are left wondering if her stalker story was true or not also. You never see the guy.

Always wondered why Timothy Bottom's career never panned out. He had a great few years in the beginning. He was talented and good looking. Seemed to fall off the grid by the late 70s. or even earlier.

@HIBI:  He was wet, cold and tired when I found him.  He went willingly.  When I got the 'Tiel home I put him in an shoebox without the top on and he slept.  I went out shortly thereafter to get him a cage and named him Sweet Pea.  I didn't know if my feathered foundling was a boy or girl bird at the time so I decided 'Sweet Pea' would be a good name.  Sometimes I go 'Shakespeare' and call him 'Sweeteth Pea-eth'.  🦜

I'm sure he was grateful in that case.

Joan Bennett had a difficult time keeping up with the pace of the show and also had a hard time reading the teleprompter without her glasses. I love her scenes when Barnabas first introduces himself. She is the regal mistress of Collinwood, totally in charge, which nobody can challenge. Her banter with Selby in the 1895 segment is marvelous. I think those two played off each other wonderfully.

I'd forgotten Joan was very near sighted.  The teleprompter would be useless for her.

Also the other day, BARNABAS in 1970 real time (and under control of THE LEVIATHANS) WAS DRIVING HIS CAR WHICH  struck down Quentin Collins in front of a Collinsport antique store

WHICH JUST BEGS THE QUESTION: What kind of car does Barnabas Collins drive?

    I discount this as a too-obvious choice:

How do vampires apply for driver's licenses??? :D

@TwoKeets:  I'm sorry your little feathered troopers have all passed on.

@James_and_Thy_Jazzy_Guitar:  Today is the 20th Anniversary of me finding my cockatiel, Sweet Pea, in the grocery store parking lot.  I found him on Sept. 14, 2001.  I wrote it down right after I got home all those years ago.  SWEET PEA was probably 3 months old and flew away from his previous owner.   He was fully flighted but not fully grown.  I hope to have SuperPea for as long as possible.  I had a cockatiel named Cinnamon Stick who lived from Dec. 2, 1986 - May 7, 2017.   He was an old man of 30 yrs 5 mos when he died from the effects of a stroke.  He was a Tough Tiel.  🦜

Give your smol Tiel pal some xtra scritches for me.  He could live a lot longer than 15 or 16.   I used to tell Cinnamon Stick after he got really old that there was no limit as to how long he could live.  He understood.  He knew he was wanted until the day he died.

Wow. You probably saved its life by finding it.  Did it just go with you willingly?

I think you're spot on there.  Especially so with Muller.  I'm of the opinion he does his own multimedia in his segments and always has, because the others segments haven't been and aren't of the same production standard.  Then when he goes on with other hosts, as you say, he takes back seat to them.  I'd like to think that is because he is a gentleman.  Though he might have some dark secrets of his own.  😁

Probably because he doesn't have much interest in non-noir films.
