I bring this point up because whenever I steer the conversations held inside the van I'm driving to the subject of Movies, I've noticed that the vast majority of my passengers say they seldom watch TCM and/or have only a limited interest in or knowledge of movies, and be those movies defined as "classic" or not.
During these conversations (and of which I always attempt to initiate because it makes the two hour drive each way seem a hell of a lot shorter in duration for me...oh, and of course also because I love the sound of my own voice...I DO have a rich, mellifluous and resonant voice, ya know
) whenever I mention my favorite films of all time and after asking what films might be my passengers' favorites, more times than not these passengers might only vaguely recall once watching the movies I've mentioned and which could not in any way be described as "esoteric". Nope, we're talking about movies such as Academy Award winning films like The Best Years of Our Lives, The Apartment, and Casablanca. However and once again though, my passengers are most likely to only recognize the titles of these films at best but have little knowledge of their actual content.
(...and so I guess with my point here being that the general public, and yes, even those old enough to have perhaps acquired a taste for classic films and who are not adverse to watching a movie that wasn't filmed in color, is still pretty much a relatively small demographic)
My mother who grew up during the "Golden Age" when they were making those movies wont watch them. Am sure she's seen a lot of them. She won't watch B&W films on tv. Not sure what her reasoning is for the colored ones. She'd rather watch junk network series (yet she complains there's nothing on tv).

I've seen one film Moore was in with Haas on TCM, but I forget the title. I don't think it was on Noir Alley. (not counting that bit part in a film that WAS on Noir Alley, which I can't remember either).

As for Ben's comment: I don't think he was trying to provide any "context" but just being snarky as it relates to the myth MGM's PR department used to imply Tracy was a devout Catholic. While I find humor when I hear anyone say Tracy was a devout Catholic, I don't see why a TCM host needs to be snarky about that myth. I.e. my preference is that such comments are not made.
He was devout enough not to get a divorce, or his wife wouldn't give him one. That was a no-no with Catholics back then. You couldn't receive the sacraments.

While I understand what is being said here, I don’t think it’s fair that those that are younger than the assumed demographic don’t deserve any sort of consideration. Not that older demographics shouldn’t be considered either, but TCM should be for everyone.
Agree but there aren't enough of them. I get why TCM is trying to attract them, but they won't with new graphics and couches.

"Where Then Meets Now" seems to be one more desperate attempt to make a classic movie channel "relevant" to a younger generation. I wish TCM management would get it. While many of us loved "old" movies (as in movies which were made 30-40 years before we were born) when we were mere kids, the vast majority of folks under the age of 40 have absolutely no use for anything "old" and consider an "old movie" to be one which was made prior to 2015. Deal with reality, TCM and stop pandering to would-be viewers you will never get.
TOTALLY AGREE. But they keep trying! LOL. I guess they have to. We can't live forever.......
The Hope. If the rumor that they are moving all of the production from Atlanta to LA is true, that has the potential to be very good news for viewers. Perhaps if it is easier for current-day directors, producers, actors, authors, etc. to find their way to the TCM studios, they will appear on a more regular basis. I have a feeling that budget and time constraints (not to mention the inconvenience of getting on a plane and flying to Atlanta) kept a whole lot of people we would have loved to hear from away. For a long time the directors and stars of the 1980's - 1990's films have been underrepresented on TCM. If they are shooting everything in LA now, we may see a renaissance of interviewees and guest programmers.
Lets hope this is true.

(And Laurence Olivier tells him "It wasn't hard enough being a Jew??")
Critics were less offended at Neil in shoe polish as they were at the stereotype that Black People would immediately riot at the very appearance of a non-black performer pretending to be one, and yet that's EXACTLY what the TCM powers-that-be are implying should they even dare to show Holiday Inn uncut. It's not "sensitivity", it's fear, and naive, condescending, goofy fear at that.
Why was Pepe banned? Offensive to French people? Skunks?

I believe all the abstract designs are supposed to be various C's that match the "4 key C's of the brand" curate, context, connection, culture.
A while back, when TCM changed the website to black and white, everyone complained about that. Now they add color and everyone's complaining about that. They change the font from one with serifs, to one without. They literally just changed their slogan (from the "let's movie" slogan that everyone complained about) and gave their marketing a new look as an attempt to give Classic Hollywood a modern, fresh look, yet everyone's complaining. TCM tries new things and continues to evolve to attract new audiences and people complain. However, if TCM were to keep their 1994 look and never change, people would complain that they've gotten stale and refuse to update.
The way that everyone on social media (Twitter and Facebook included) are carrying on, one would have thought that they had added commercials.
Frankly, I'm just sick of the constant complaining about things that are so innocuous like a channel's attempts to keep up with modern sensibilities even though at the core, they still have the same mission they had 27 years ago.
My complaint is the cost. All that money for a refresh could've gone to lease films that have never been shown on TCM (and there are many). They waste all this money on "looks" and not content.

He's on TWICE??? 5 of the 6 are films TCM shows almost monthly. No thanks. I might watch The Fugitive Kind as that doesn't pop up so much. Not really interested in why he chose them though. Guest Programmer concept is tired and like The Essentials should be retired......

There's also Josette's bedroom in the old house. Did they just use one bedroom for everyone and redress it? I know there were scenes in both Vicky and Joan's bedroom from time to time. Maybe Carolyn's too. They didnt look the same.
There's also the Blue Whale and Maggie's house. Wonder how they all fit in that small bldg?? Maybe they used the basement of the bldg too?
