The Leviathan storyline Did not bother me at all, but it had absolutely no resolution. They just launched instantly into the 1970 parallel time...which, by the way, I just finished and DAMN WAS IT DARK!!!!!!!!!!!

...But in so far as I can recall, there really was no resolution to the whole Leviathan story.

My memories of the show stop at the Leviathan story. Not sure why. I was still watching the show. It was the last year when I started not to watch as much. Was busy with school etc....

I wouldn't have chosen those episodes, here are my favorite ones featuring the Lou Grant character-

"Baby Sitcom" from Season 2- Mary is supposed to baby sit Phyllis's daughter Bess but has a date, she asks Mr. Grant to fill in for her. Lou's scenes with Bess are very funny. The first thing he says is "Do anything ya want, kid, just don't play with matches!" They get along when Lou has some scotch and Bess plays poker with him.

"Lou's Place" from Season 3- Lou buys his favorite neighborhood bar, but the customers don't come. He decides he needs to be more lovable and tries a Happy Hour. He tries to lead the few customers into a sing a long, but they don't sing. In a hilarious moment he suddenly turns into his gruff old self and says "What the hell's wrong with you anyway?"  Then he DEMANDS everybody start singing.

"Lou's First Date" from Season 4- Lou is separated from his wife and needs a date for a banquet. Rhoda suggests a friend of hers but due to a mix up the date turns out to be her friend's 80 year old mother in law! Lou's reaction is priceless, he also finds out she was flower girl at Thomas Alva Edison's wedding.

"Happy Birthday Lou" from Season 4- Mary plans a surprise birthday party for Lou since he will be alone on that day. She finds out he hates surprise parties when he tells her while a bunch of guests stand outside her door. One of the funniest scenes in the series history and he tries to get away from the rowdy bunch of partiers.

That episode with the blind date old lady is a classic! LMREO.

Wow, I didn't know that about her.

Another Hollywoodite reported to be a lousy parent. I don't know it's true or not about Raye, but if it is , maybe she should have been relieved that Midler and the other filmmakers of FOR THE BOYS didn't divulge into that aspect of her life.

LOL. She had a drinking problem as well. I read a bio of her (some University Press publication) that came out, maybe 20 yrs ago. Her personal life was a mess. But she did great work entertaining the troups. Her last (gay) hubby took her for all she was worth.........

MeTV is going to show 4 MTM episodes on Sunday Sept 5 as a tribute.  They are also going to show a 1963 episode of the Alfred Hitchcock Hour that featured Asner.    No "Lou Grant Show" episodes though.....

I hope I remember to watch. They should show a whole 24 hr marathon! Is anyone running the MTM show now on cable? If I remember correctly Ed played a heavy type in that A.H. Hour episode. (Father of a troubled boy)

Lisa Gerritsen appeared as Bess Lindstrom, the daughter of Phyllis and (the never seen) Lars Lindstrom in 10 episodes.

When Phyllis moved to San Francisco, Lisa appeared on that show for 2 seasons.......

Julianna McCarthy was one of the original cast members of The Young and the Restless, playing the poor-but-honest mother of William Gray Espy (Snapper), James Houghton (Greg), and Brenda Dickson (Jill, then a sympathetic character). She worked as housekeeper to Jeanne Cooper (Mrs. Chancellor), and maybe that was why the casting people thought of her for DS.

Yes, the long suffering Ma Foster, the maid to rich Kay Chancellor......

l worked with Tony Randall a few times. I mentioned to him how much I liked 7 Faces of Dr. Lao, and that it wasn't shown that often.  He was an erudite man and a great actor, with an appreciation for classical theater. He lived in the Beresford, up on 81st Street/Central Park West.
