Gosh darn it, I can NEVER MAKE IT MORE THAN 40 minutes into BLADE RUNNER (whichever version.)
About five minutes after Sean Young shows up as RoboMildredPierce, I always check out.
The parts with Sean Young are the best parts of the movie.

It's not bad, but it's sooo sloooow. Too long. Sets are a bit cramped, looks like a cross of The Crow and Total Recall.
Sean Young is one the things that save this movie. She's a robot but arguably the most human thing in the movie.
SLOW is right!!!

This was the first time I saw it and HATED IT! I admit, SCIFI isnt a favorite genre of mine, but am able to get into some films (Alien etc.) This one was a BIG FAIL! Great production design, but that was about it! I kept falling asleep. Boring and in comprehensible plot..

You don't know the strapping hunk of man Don Megowan?
He starred in two of my favorite 50's svengoolie items - The Werewolf (shown here on TCM not too long ago) and the underrated chapter The Creature Walks Among Us (the best of the two "Creature" sequels).
LOL! i did see the Werewolf, but the name didn't register. I'll look to see if he looks familiar.

But it's a Genie Production, released by Emerson Film Enterprises!
Somebody ponied up the money for Eastman Color, though, which gets top billing over any of the actors.
LOL! A major production for the drive in circuit........

I always thought there were two topics never to be brought up -- religion and politics. I guess astrology is the third, lol.
I thought sex was the third?

First post ever on TCM. I love TCM. I like the films and love the commentators. I cannot decide which commentator is the best.
BUT I HATE THIS ASTROLOGY JUNK.
I came here out of frustration and anger over the sickening use of astrology. I hope Alicia Malone does not buy this, but that would not be enough. Please get rid of the guest astrologer.
She's only on this month! Not to worry! (Unless she proves popular and is asked back! LOL)

Hibi -- don't know what she charges on an individual basis, but this might be of some interest: Home Page - Susan Miller Astrology Zone
Thanks, yes, I found it. Not that I'd have her do one on me!

Susan Miller, however annoying or superficial she appeared on TCM, is actually very reputable, credible and comprehensive in her chosen field of study. She unfortunately doesn't "come across" well on-air but trust me, can give one a satisfying and honest chart reading.
I personally don't lump astrology in with fortune telling and the like but that's my own opinion after years of research into this subject.
I respect those of you with differing opinions!
Do you have any idea what she charges to do a chart? Does she have a website? I should go look. Just curious. I don't think she comes across well on tv.

I truly hope you're right about Alicia's being roped into it. If I can find her at the next TCM festival in L.A. I will try asking her about it.
DO!

Yes, this has to be one of my least favorite themes of all time. When I first saw that kook talk, I believed in was a parody. But no!
This has to be a new low point for TCM ( after beach movie marathons), lending its platform to promote and validate astrology, which I place in the same waste bucket as phrenology, fortune telling, ouija boards, psychics, mediums, spiritualism, dowsing and the unyielding advocates of a flat (or hollow) earth. It's embarrassing and discouraging to see Alicia Malone sharing a split screen with 'noted astrologer' Susan Miller. (Question: who certifies astrologers and decides whether they are 'noted' or not?)
Like all con games, astrology is a variation of the time-honored tradition of telling people what they want to hear about themselves. It is human nature not to question or doubt someone who is telling you how wonderful you are and how great your future prospects will be ...... for a price, of course. Astrologers who succeed at their con game do so by reading a client's body language to determine what they want to hear, their only real skill, just like psychics and fortune tellers. Did anyone notice that the 'noted astrologer' only had superlatives to offer about each of the film stars? No one apparently is ever destined by the heavenly configurations at their time of birth to end up in prison as a serial killer, rapist or child molester. It would be interesting to hear Susan Miller's 'reading' for the executed serial killer Ted Bundy without her knowing the actual identity. (Full disclosure: I once lived in an apartment across the street from the law school that Ted was attending at the Univ. of Utah, though I don't recall ever meeting him). But I knew people who were acquainted with Ted and every one of them thought he was a fine and charming young man, full of promise. Most sociopaths are like that. Has any 'noted astrologer' ever given a reading that says this person is destined to exhibit sociopathic behavior? I doubt it.
Some have suggested that Alicia Malone seemed uncomfortable with this series, having to share a split screen with a noted astrologer. I don't agree. It seemed to me that she was completely on board with it and may even have promoted that idea with TCM management. So here's a suggestion on how to reach the next TCM low point: why not hold genuine seances before each screening with a 'noted medium' who can contact the spirits of dead actors to gather their 'insider' views on their film roles. After all, the dead should have equal rights to be heard too, shouldn't they?
I shall look forward to attending TCM seances at the next Hollywood festival
Yes, she never says anything negative (or potentially so) when talking about the stars (unintended pun) and their sign(s). And yes, fortune tellers never seem to predict calamity in your future!
I don't agree that Alicia seemed "with it" about the subject. She seemed to me the opposite, but going along because she had to...

I've seen Hollow Triumph several times and I LOVE IT! So there! Yes, there are holes and implausibilities like any noir. Great performances from Joan Bennett and Henreid! Great photography from Alton, too.
