  1. Agree. It was hardly a great part for her either......(Leigh) Edited by: Hibi on Jul 3, 2012 4:04 PM
  2. A campy mess. Dunno why Leigh would have consented to be in this, but Liz fits right in! Love the stampede (LOL).........
  3. What was the name of that Debbie Reynolds movie? 2nd Time Around?
  4. Someone just told me. Think there was an Emergency call. Unsure of details....... Who else died recently from the show?
  5. I definitely thought it was overhyped. I liked it, but wouldnt rave to anyone about it. And all that hoopla over the dog.Nothing special in his antics. Was really annoyed they ripped off the theme to Vertigo.......
  6. Yes, Downtown was on the radio and jukeboxes for a long, long time. I didnt mind as I loved the song. I didnt know who she was or what she looked like but I liked her from the get go due to that song.......... Does anyone remember the episode of Seinfeld when George and Jerry are trying to decipher some hidden meaning in the lyrics of Downtown? Funny episode.......... 7. Neither one wants to die first!
  8. WOW. I knew her birthday was coming up. Hope she's in good health. (maybe Joan will call?)
  9. I dont know. Farrell wasnt really in it much. I think RO said they did 12 films together. I've only seen 4, I think. They were very good in a silent TCM showed last year (Street Angel) Am still hoping TCM will show Seventh Heaven......
  10. You are kidding, right? Did you sleep through the 60s? She had many hits. In the U.S., England, France and other countries. She's still very big in France even pushing 80!
  11. LOL. I hadnt seen the film in its entirety in many years. I could hardly sit through it, but I think she's one of the best things in the movie. (Tommy Steele-MUTE!)..........The movie isnt bad, but the story is just so dated. They could've cut a few of the production numbers and kept the film shorter (they did cut one number which is on the soundtrack)......
  12. Yes, there was a great seismic shift in films in just a couple years in the late 60s. Everything changed dramatically.........
  13. She is still recording too.http://www.petulaclark.net/home.php
  14. LOL. Farrell was the eye candy.........
  15. Ah, 3 of us! Yeah, there were several other songs, but I wasnt familiar with the titles. The print was dark. Gaynor's accent seemed to come and go, dont you think? I'm glad more early Fox films are showing up on TCM.........Overall I enjoyed the film, though it seemed overlong for the plot.......
  16. Yes, I second that. If it werent for TCM many of us would not be aware of people like him who have been forgotten........
  17. Unfortunately when Petula was cast in Finian's Rainbow and Goodbye, Mr. Chips roadshow musicals were on their way out (neither one was a hit and the latter actually bombed pretty badly). I think had she started earlier in the 60s she would've been one. She did make a lot of films in England when she was a child and teenager........she still appears in Europe, Canada and the U.S. in concerts and nightclubs. I think she will be 80 this year (or next year, her birthdate varies) She looks decades younger.........
  18. LOL. That was a Gerswhin song as was the title song. I didnt realize they came from this movie before. I guess you and I were the only ones on the board that watched!
  19. Did anyone watch? Didnt realize Gershwin songs were in it. Was this a stage musical or done directly as a film? Does anyone know?
  20. Well, we know you're a tough guy, Finance! (LOL). 100 more to go!
  21. Well being reed thin (Alexander) doesnt help.........
  22. True. Maybe as he got older and put on a few lbs........
  23. He probably could've found a niche as a Dick Powell type. I couldnt see him playing tough guys. But in light comedy/drama as a lead or 2nd lead I think he could've been effective......
