Have you ever personally met a big actor/actress?
Hibi replied to MarlonFan's topic in General Discussions
No, it wasnt boring at all! LUCKY YOU! I've been a huge fan of hers all my life. Thanks for the ancedote! -
A lot of films, I'll try to catch a few..........
-
I dont like it either or the film.......even as a kid, when I first saw it, I thought it was overdone........
-
****! Well, if it was on tv, I might give it a shot, depending on how bad it was.......
-
Did anyone ever see the 70s remake? I heard it was pretty bad. I was curious, but it never played in my area (dont think it got much distribution in the U.S.) It was updated to the present day.......Jacqueline Bisset and Christopher Plummer were in it........

My only objection to her being SOTM (this time) is she's already been one. (HINT:TCM!). Weather one likes Doris Day or not she was a huge box office star for 2 decades and still has a big fan base, nor did she ride the coattails of another star for her shot to fame.......(and she hasnt won an honorary Oscar, which I'm sure you'll agree with......)
-
Well, I'm one of those who felt she didnt deserve an honorary Oscar (for longevity?) though I have no objection to her being SOTM, since she was a star (just not a great one...). If you take out the films she did with Bogie, she didnt make many noteworthy films. There were other more deserving candidates..........

I replied in a thread awhile back to this. I met Angela Lansbury backstage when she was touring in Gypsy years ago. Same with Alexis Smith in a summer tour of Applause. Also Petula Clark after a concert............Nothing noteworthy to report really. All were very nice...... Oh, I also met Chita Rivera.... Edited by: Hibi on Jun 11, 2012 11:40 AM -

Fred, could you elaborate when and how you met Audrey Hepburn? Details! (Please?). -
One thing that bothers me about A Star is Born

Yeah, but if Judy played the Norman Maine part she wouldnt have sang all those great numbers (or at least not as many) I cant imagine what Mason's singing voice sounded like! (I'd rather not think about it.....) -
Great schedule tonight! Spiral Staircase and The Innocents come before!

Wonder who SOTM is?
-
YES! LOL. And the sky smiled too........Poor Petula. THere was one good song in the bunch, You and I, that she recorded and sang in concerts...........She got stuck singing most of the songs, but they were done as singing over the visuals........O'Toole croaked through a few of them too.......... Never saw Chitty Chitty Bang Bang......... (I remember the awful title song though. Wasnt it up for an Oscar? LOL)......... Edited by: Hibi on Jun 8, 2012 9:42 AM

I'm sure Johnbabe will be happy!
-
LOL. And the only blonde in miles!

I remember WB had a lot of western and private eye shows on in the 60s......I looked up McBain on the web and saw what looked like some recent pix of hers and she still looks beautiful..... She's in her early 70s now.......
-
I remember seeing her a lot on tv shows in the 60s. But by the end of the decade she was doing AIP pictures. Few people from that WB era ever seemed to make it for some reason.... I seem to remember that she was raped in some parking garage back in the 70s........
-
Maybe why that's why they didnt film that scene and had Claudelle relate it (Constance vs. Claude) LOL.
-
Yeah, there were some good songs here and there. She made many of them sound better than they were.........
-
LOL. I'm sure Ekberg could've bartered her freedom with the Indians.........or at least taken prisoner!
-
Interesting. Either of those scenarios would've been better then the switched ending, but it's easy to see why it wouldnt fly back then..........
-
I agree, to an extent. A lot of her new songs werent always the greatest (written for the film directly) though there WERE some great songs written (It's Magic, Secret Love, etc.) but she did sing many great standards in many of those old WB musicals. AOK with me! By the 50s there werent many great songwriters writing for film musicals anymore (and anyway, WB was too cheap to hire them!)...
-
LOL.

Yes, it feels clumsy and tacked on (Suspicion)..........
