  1. Finance, I was talking about No Country for Old Men in that post, not about Suspicion (talking about not showing him getting killed)..........
  2. Yes, I thought that was a flaw in the film. You are rooting for the character through the whole film, then near the end when he dies, you never see him die. I felt cheated. He's a major character. The first time I saw it, I wasnt sure he WAS dead at first, it was so clumsily handled..........
  3. Didnt' Fontaine's character mail a letter informing the police her husband poisoned her? (so he wouldnt get away with it) I think that's what the films original ending was..........So he does kill her, but he gets it in the end..........A much better ending than the compromise (leave em leaving happy.........)
  4. LOL. How could I have forgot that one!
  5. I have to agree about Sondheim/Sweeney Todd. He doesnt write songs for Tin Pan Alley type recordings. They are written to further the plot or show character. Be that as it may, there are some very hummable tunes in Sweeney Todd (Not While I'm Around and Pretty Women to name two.......) Follies is still my favorite Sondheim score. Even the cast off songs are great...........(and there were many of them.......) I disagree about Finian's Rainbow. The film wasnt great, but there were some great songs in it. The story was hopelessly dated by the late 60s for films....... One film that comes to mind from that era with a weak score was Goodbye, Mr. Chips. Most of the songs were thrown away in the film and for good reason. I've never watched Dr. Doolittle all the way through, but that was another one (wasnt it the same lyricist/composer, Leslie Bricusse?)....
  6. Eugenia is my mother's name (she hate's her name too) It was supposed to be Eugenie, but it was misspelled by whoever did the B.C........she goes by Jean, though......
  7. They do a lot of charity work, public appearances, travel, etc........PR work mostly from what I gather.....
  8. LOL! I didnt see that film (wish I had..........)
  9. LOL. That's not a bad name. Sounds classy.........
  10. LOL. That was funny about Clara. I started chuckling every time I saw her. (too bad that scene happened off camera) Another scene I wish had been filmed was the big blow up between Constance Ford and Akins (which Claudelle only retold) now that would have been a scene!!! I kept hoping Chad Everrett (sp?) would return to town so Claudelle could kick him to the curb, but no dice! I wasnt prepared for that ending. Guess with the code you still had to "pay"............. 11. How times have changed! So much has changed in the 60 years she's been Queen........
  12. Providing some OOOMPH! (Too bad she didnt go native. )
  13. Partly due to her not wanting to be tied down to a Hollywood contract after "Wind". She and Olivier returned to England soon after and concentrated on the stage (a game she couldnt win with him) Her illness factored in too, in her later years. It's too bad.
  14. Yes, me too. I'd never seen it but had heard about it. I must say it didnt disappoint!
  15. I loved it! They dont come much better. Nothing like trashy 60's (trying to push the) code films. It's a shame Diane McBain didnt have much of a career as I thought she was very good in it. Seems like Arthur Kennedy and Constance Ford got typecast playing these types of parts in umpteen films....... No one else watched?
  16. Tonight at midnight! Have wanted to see this movie for years. From WB's potboiler period (late 50s early 60s). Be there! (Think Summer Place, Susan Slade etc....)
  17. OK. That kinda makes sense......
  18. Teenybopper Movies??? Didnt we just have that in APRIL? WTH?
  19. Funny, I used to get those 2 "dames" mixed up too (Virginia and Rhonda). They do have a passing resemblance and played similar type roles........
